As early as the 4th Quarter of 2017, talks are already spreading that Gerhard Von Lipinski – CEO and Producer of the Miss Supranational Pageant – is seriously eyeing the hosting of the 2018 edition in our shores – the Queen City of the South to be exact. Early negotiations may have already been made, but nothing is set in stone as of yet.
If we do the math, the logistics of the entire hosting and production will be massive. Just think of bringing in both Miss Supranational and Mister Supranational in, and the cost will be almost double. And it’s no joke making a serious commitment to take charge of everything from a host country’s perspective.
Reigning Miss and Mister Supranational titleholders Jenny Kim and Gabriel Correa
Now if we look from the angle of our representative’s chances of winning a 2nd Miss Supranational crown, then Jehza Huelar won’t stand a significant favor of doing so if she was to be a host delegate. Aside from another Asian (Jenny Kim of Korea) being the reigning titleholder, I am inclined to think that the pageant owners won’t sit well with the thought of having the host country as her successor. 1st Runner-Up at best. Besides, Miss Supranational has definitely changed from the time Mutya Datul won in Belarus. It has grown more profitable and familiar so the judgment calls have become more relatively “layered”, so to speak. We can’t deny the fact that it has already benefitted much in terms of popularity when a Filipina became the first Asian to win the crown. So the running cycle could still be more distant from “reaching full circle”.
If you ask me, I’d rather see Jehza as a traveling candidate this year so that she can have a more enriching reign, regardless of where the 10th Edition will be held. Now if my considerations for a Cebu hosting are proven wrong and Gerhard ends up doing business with another country – or going back to Poland for that matter – then the fate of our bet might also turn out the same. 1st Runner-Up or Top 5 at best. Just a cut better than what Chanel Olive Thomas achieved last year.
How about you, dear readers? Please share your inputs.
Prior to the actual National Costume Presentation of Bb. Pilipinas 2018, the forty (40) Binibinis walked the stage in Jag Jeans and showed their fiercer and sexier side while showing off their curves in the latest collection of the denim brand. Reigning titleholders Rachel Peters, Mariel de Leon, Chanel Olive Thomas, Elizabeth Clenci, Nelda Ibe and Katarina Rodriguez led the group. Here are some photos from the said segment of the fashion show held last Saturday night.
Tomorrow afternoon, the Store Tour of the Bb. Pilipinas 2018 Official Candidates will happen in select establishments at Araneta Center starting at 2pm. Their first stop will be Pizza Hut and Dairy Queen at Ali Mall before heading straight to the Taco Bell at the Cyber Park beside Novotel.
This will be another chance to meet the ladies and – hopefully – get quick photo ops with them.
See you there!

It is interesting to note that our Queens spent the New Year in different parts of the Globe – either with family or boyfriend or friends.
Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach flew to Zurich, Switzerland with boyfriend Marlon Stockinger where they spent quality time in the 10th safest city in the World (and 3rd safest in Europe) according to The Economist Intelligence Unit.
Miss Universe Philippines 2017 Rachel Peters and boyfriend Migz Villafuerte spent the New Year in freezing temperature while enjoying the beauty of Winter Wonderland in Niseko (ニセコ町, Niseko-chō), a town located in Shiribeshi Subprefecture of Hokkaido, Japan.
Miss Universe Philippines 2016 Maxine Medina (2nd from left) with her mom Marife and siblings Mathew, Marx & Ferica alongside niece Liofel were pictured in Beaverton, Oregon where they spent the Holidays.
Meanwhile, Bb. Pilipinas Supranational 2017 Chanel Olive Thomas headed back to the summer-y weather of Cairns, Australia where she donned her swimwear and enjoyed the sparkling waters of her home city Down Under.
Happy New Year to all of you, ladies!

Since we’re done with Miss Universe, let us move to another part of the world where another one of our Queens is still competing. Bb. Pilipinas Supranational 2017 Chanel Olive Thomas must be feeling greater pressure now more than ever to deliver an excellent performance during the finals of Miss Supranational 2017 this coming December 1 in Krynica-Zdroj, Poland. She remains in the thick of the fight, while maintaining the genuinely warm and friendly persona with the other candidates.
Here are videos of the Swimsuit (where she slipped into a red two-piece number by Edwin Uy) and Evening Gown (wearing a Rau Uson-Ablaza creation) Preliminaries held at AquaCity Poprad and Horizont Resort respectively. Tell me your assessment of her presentation in each round.
