This is the best year to travel to Mainland China – Shanghai in particular. The 2010 World Expo will formally open its doors to the public come May 1 and will run till October 31, 2010. Let me just say first how amazed I truly am with all the constructions that have been ongoing for the big event which is being touted as the ‘biggest world expo in history.’
See for yourself. The pictures below are just some of the international pavilions in the said expo that are nearing completion of their construction phase. The architecture of each are, quite simply, visual treats that bring new meaning to creativity.

The UK Pavilion - Workers are seen at the Seed Cathedral, part of the UK Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo site. The 20-meter-high cube-like Seed Cathedral will be covered by 60,000 slim, transparent acrylic rods, which will quiver in the breeze.

The Chinese Pavilion - The Sunny Valley and the Chinese Pavilion are seen during a light test at the 2010 World Expo site.

The South Korean Pavilion - A worker walks in front of the South Korean Pavilion in the 2010 World Expo site.

The Polish Pavilion - A migrant worker collects construction waste at the Polish pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo site.

The Luxembourg Pavilion - Workers are seen at the Luxemburger Pavilion in the 2010 World Expo site in Shanghai.

The Australia Pavilion - The Australian pavilion at the site of the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, seen on March 12, 2010.

The United Arab Emirates Pavilion - A worker scales the United Arab Emirates Pavilion at the 2010 World Expo site.

The French Pavilion - Workers are seen atop the French pavilion at the site of the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai.

A trumpet-shaped structure designed to soak up the sun's rays to light up galleries and catch rain to water the green areas.
If these pictures whet your appetite and you’d like to see the actual finished structures, then better start saving up for a trip to Shanghai. You have up to the end of October, 2010 to witness these architectural marvels. Cebu Pacific gives out regular promo deals for their flights to Shanghai, as well as Philippine Airlines, China Southern Airlines and Cathay Pacific/Dragon Air.
I will surely schedule one with my mom and brother because I know they will be awe-inspired with World Expo 2010! 😉
