Teacher Vincy Vacalares – Miss Universe Philippines 2020 candidate from Cagayan de Oro City – has always dedicated her heart and profession for the Youth. As an educator, she is centering her advocacy on Education. Her cause is in-line with their Mayor’s goal for the community – that education is the greatest equalizer. To date, he has been able to build a total of 620 classrooms and 13 high school campuses in the city. This mission is to provide good education to all the children of CDO.
As an individual, Vincy finds teaching Arts to High School students very purposeful. She knows that secondary schooling is a crucial point in every young person’s life – a threshold to adulthood. And within it, crucial decisions are also made as a result of . exploring their options in building their future careers. By teaching Arts, she wants to instill in every young mind the importance of exercising their personal freedom of choice and the chance to bring out the person they want to be in life. She wants to help kids build their character and sense of self.
Quarantine-wise, Vincy did not expect that she would discover skills she never thought she is capable of doing. The first weeks of the ECQ was just all about looking after her lola and bedridden uncle. Thereafter, she got into cooking.
Next to that, she realized that she is good at sewing. She used this skill to make three-layered washable masks. Her target is to come up with 500 masks for donation. And to do this, she reached out to her friends who helped in achieving the goal. Along with the support of the LGU-CDO, she was also able to distribute food and alcohols to frontliners in the city.
Teaching is a good platform for any advocacy, be it in pageantry or socio-civic causes endorsed by the LGU of a city or province. May Vincy continue with hers even after the national pageant is over because it will benefit the youth immensely.
