It’s always great to be alive!
Celebrating a birthday in the midst of a pandemic lockdown may sound sad for some. But not me. I take happiness in the small (but significant) nuggets of positivity in or around me:
– I am fully vaccinated;
– I have my mother by my side;
– I still get #wfh gigs that pay the bills somehow;
– I still have my blog at normannorman.com where the engagements have become more intellectually stimulating;
– I am entering Season 6 of Pageantry Norms this coming Sunday;
– I have no love life, and that is by choice. Family will always come first;
– I have so many friends inside and outside of social media who will shower me with greetings;
– Most importantly, I look up to Someone up there who blessed me with another year of existence.
What more can I ask for? Oh yes, a safe – albeit slow – return to local and international travel will definitely complete me.
And that is how you make a birthday post with optimism.
August 11 | #Actual Birthday Musings:
The last five months of my life (from March 11 to the present) have been completely uneventful to say the least. And quite literally at that. No live events or pageant activities to cover or report about. If that’s not enough, I have never ever deeply embraced staying-at-home till now that the global pandemic changed all our lives in a flash.
On the bright side, the digital platform has given me the opportunity to continue doing what I do best. The words “Zoom”, “Streamyard” and even “Kumu” used to be nowhere near the mainstream of my usual vocabulary as being important. It was also because of the long lockdown that #PageantryNorms was born, and why normannorman.com continues to exercise my mind with the daily challenge of coming up with blogs that (still) mercifully engage my discriminating readers who keep me on my feet. Content is the most stressful demand, especially with an online program I need to plan 2-3 weeks in advance. But am I complaining? Not at all.
My physical health remains on a “so-far-so-good” status, and having Mama as permanent lockdown companion continues to preserve my sanity. Our relationship, while not the most teleserye-heartwarming, is a unique blend of individual quirks that still mesh under the most trying circumstances.
So on this day, I have fully realized this quote:
“Life is like a camera.
Just focus on what’s important and capture the good times, develop from the negatives, and if things don’t work out, just take another shot.”
Indeed, the next click might just be the money shot…or another fail. But either way, I am ready to conquer it head-on. With face shield and mask to boot!

Here’s another one of them big shout-outs. My niece, Angeline, is turning 22 today and she is an all-grown woman alright. Now that she has gotten a ‘yummy’ taste of the corporate world, there’s no reason not to treat us to lunch or dinner this weekend. Anyways, enjoy spending your extra-special day!

And I just remembered, don’t forget to watch “Budoy” on ABS-CBN every night. Of course, you’re aware that I don’t because it’s the competition I’m more hooked on. But since the name holds a special spot in your heart, then it should only follow that you love anything that is closely (even remotely) affiliated to it. 😉
Another one of my big shout-outs today. Happy Birthday to my sister Neriz!
We’ll be arriving from Guam before lunch today, so we can all get together for your birthday blowout. Dinner tonight or lunch tomorrow? Anyways, we can have it at Cafe Ano or if you’re feeling extra generous, Circles perhaps? Hehehe
Happy Birthday again. Wish you good health for the entire year and next.
Love you, sis! 😉
Today is the 6th birthday of my favorite niece and muse, Patricia Nicole, and I just want to give her a big shout out. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ISHI! I’m sure her mom will open my blog this morning and show my greetings. Looking forward to our dinner tonight. I’m certain she will love the gift(s) I bought her. Her wishes are my command. She is no spoiled brat, though. Her simple joys are playing with Bratz and Tinkerbell dolls, watching the Disney Channel and fancifully dressing up.

Once more and with extra feelings this time….. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ISHI!
