As if the simultaneous – albeit informal – launching of both Binibining Pilipinas 2012 and Miss World Philippines 2012 is not enough, here comes the third wheel announcing the initial stages of the search for Miss Philippines-Earth 2012. Whew! Beautiful Filipina girls must be having a field day at the moment, playing eenee-meenee-minee-mo on which pageant to join this year. Of course, there is the good and the bad to all three searches happening at almost the same time.
First, the bad. It will prevent ladies from “crossing-over” within the same year. For example, there are only three titles at stake in Binibining Pilipinas, which means that the non-placers will no longer have the chance to join Miss World-Philippines or Miss Philippines-Earth due to competition dates almost overlapping each other. And in the event that we see a bumper crop of contenders for the first, losers with bright potentials will have to wait for 2013 to enlist in another. True, time flies so fast. But we are an impatient batch of armchair judges, to say the least.
And now, the good. All three organizers will put their best foot forward to get the best-looking (and most well-prepared) candidates for their respective competitions. It’s like the network wars where Binibining Pilipinas represents ABS-CBN, Miss World Philippines for GMA-7 and Miss Philippines-Earth for ABS-CBN (or should they switch allegiance to TV5 this year?) In this scenario, Carousel Productions may find itself on the losing end because the Top 2 will get the lion’s share of topnotch wannabes, with the leftovers being shared with the other smaller contests like Mutya ng Pilipinas or Miss Bikini Philippines or Miss Resorts World Manila and the like. But hey, what’s more important is that we find the best bets for Miss Universe 2012 and Miss World 2012 where the country has a good running record to protect.
So what does this mean to all of us? An exciting plate of national finals for 2012! This blog will definitely have a heady slate in the next two months. But I don’t mind. Bring it on! 🙂
ELAINE KAY MOLL Age: 19 Region: Naga City Height: 5’9 ¾” Vital Statistics: 32-26.5-36

If current plans bear fruition, Elaine Kay Moll could be the first alumna of Miss World Philippines 2011
to jump ship and transfer to Binibining Pilipinas 2012. She made it to the Top 12 semifinalists of the pageant won by now Miss World 2011 First Princess Gwendoline Ruais. And that placement could’ve been a good training ground and motivation for her to move on and seek better fortunes with BPCI. Why not? She is tall and with a pretty enough face that can be significantly improved with further polishing by her effective handlers. Besides, she is part of the camp that grooms the most successful Filipina beauty queens in recent years.
If and when she takes part in Binibining Pilipinas 2012, expect a more dramatic makeover for Elaine Kay Moll. She can always take full advantage of lessons learned from MWP2011. 🙂
Name: Valerie Clacio Weigmann
Work: Print and Commercial Model; ex-Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition 2008 housemate
The excitement for Binibining Pilipinas 2012 is really starting to heat up. And why not? Coming from the impressive performance of our beauty queens this year, there is particular interest in the 2012 edition because the Philippines has to sustain the placement record.
In comes Valerie Weigmann. You may remember her as one of the housemates in ABS-CBN’s Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition last 2008. She did not win that one, but was given by the network a string of small TV projects. Unfortunately, her star did not shine bright enough to become a celebrity of major reckoning. She went into modelling. And this is where her beautiful face started to get noticed by advertisers. What followed were TV commercials for C2 Green Tea and Myra Vita-White, with more to come.

Given Valerie’s nicely-tempered Fil-German mix and good height, will she step up to the plate for Binibining Pilipinas 2012? And if she does, do you think she has what it takes to win one of the crowns? I think she has great potentials that can be enhanced with further training and polish. My first of two worries (if this can indeed be considered as one) is her previous photoshoot (watch video above) with Rogue Magazine where she posed topless (although only her bare back was facing the camera) on the cover. And here’s my bigger worry…and this could be the nail in the coffin so to speak. She is a contracted endorser of Century Properties – something that would spell conflict of interest against the centerpiece property development – Manhattan Garden City – of the Aranetas.
And don’t go suggesting that she tries her luck in Miss World Philippines instead because there will be another problem. SM Development Corporation is a major backer of the pageant.
So there… 😦
Filipina beauty at its finest....Karina Cabiling (Photo credit: Omar Gallinero)
Karina Cabiling’s first taste of national pageantry happened way back in 2008 when she placed as Miss Mindanao in the now-defunct Miss Turismo Pilipina (headed by ex-beauty queens Precious Lara Quigaman, Denille Valmonte and Karen Loren Agustin). This Davaoena took the opportunity to put her foot inside the fashion industry door and has never looked back since. At the moment, she is one of the more in-demand fashion models in the country with her beautiful face, exotic aura and good height of 5’8.5″.
Zoom to late 2011, and that is now. Pageant kibitzers and paparazzis are already shortlisting possible candidates for Binibining Pilipinas 2012. Karina Cabiling is always on the preferences of most. And why not? This girl, who is now 23, is a shoo-in for final consideration. Her background in modelling will serve the purpose excellently well. And who can ignore her gorgeous looks?
But more importantly….is Karina Cabiling even serious – let alone interested – to try her luck in Binibining Pilipinas 2012? She was already egged on to join the 2011 edition but did not push through. Methinks she just needs some pep talk and an extra shove to finally cave in to the call of duty. 😉
