On the afternoon of December 29, Bb. Pilipinas Universe 2011 and Miss Universe 2011 3rd Runner-Up Shamcey Supsup will walk down the aisle to marry Lloyd T. Lee, the man she will spend the rest of her life with.
The Holy Matrimony will take place at the Church of the Risen Lord (inside U.P. Diliman), with strictly-by-invitation reception following at the Isla Ballroom of EDSA Shangri-la Hotel.
I’m pretty sure the entourage will include some of our most beautiful beauty queens to make it the most celebrated Binibini wedding – not only of 2013 but in a long while.

As you start your gradual return to normal life next week, Shamcey, let me take this opportunity to thank you for a wonderful reign and for gifting the Filipinos continued hope in the Miss Universe Pageant. By now, it must’ve already sunk that your achievement is something so big and encouraging that the candidates of Bb. Pilipinas 2012 have been spurred and ceaselessly motivated to fierce themselves up in hopes of approximating – if not exceeding – your Miss Universe placement. I’m certain that you would want your successor to follow up with a big bang. And I believe that whoever fills in your shoes will give her 110% to capture a crown that has eluded the country for almost four decades now.
The two Filipinas who re-started it all: Shamcey and Venus (R)
My selfish wish right now is for you to please help train, re-train and guide the next Bb. Pilipinas-Universe in her quest for the big one come December. I know that this is not too much to ask since the cause is not just for an individual but the whole nation. And with the added support from your ‘sister’ Venus Raj – who will be all too willing to pitch in more than her two cents worth – I can feel that a more successful campaign is in the offing for the next Filipina in line.
With these thoughts, I would like to reiterate my heartfelt thanks for bringing the best of the Pinay to the Universe and coming back with success. God Bless, Architect Supsup! 🙂
Just want to inset this video of the first TV commercial of Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2011 and Miss Universe 2011 3rd Runner-Up Shamcey Supsup for Pizza Hut.
Between tomorrow and Wednesday (Brazil time), Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2011 Shamcey Supsup should be finally arriving in Sao Paulo, Brazil to compete in Miss Universe 2011. She has already spent more than a week in Bogota, Colombia where she underwent countless fittings, daily fitness regimen and pasarela sessions.
So what lies ahead of our dear Shamcey? Bright prospects, I reckon. This despite the fact that international beauty competitions can never do away with inside politics and the like.
Shamcey has been doing her homework dutifully well. She has the right discipline and motivation to give her all and come up with an excellent representation of the Philippines. But there is also the possibility of not exceeding or even matching Venus Raj’s achievement in Las Vegas last year. And there are several factors that may or may not work in her favor, depending on how each pre-pageant day unravels.
To this effect, 1969 Miss Universe Gloria Diaz (photo, left) has this message for our girl in Sao Paulo: “Do the best you can but don’t feel stressed out. It’s not a matter of life and death. Enjoy!”
And I couldn’t agree more!
If Shamcey wins the crown, let’s all rejoice. Otherwise, let’s accept the fact that fate has other things in store for her. 😉
P.S. Don’t forget to vote for Shamcey in the Miss Universe.com website!
Just yesterday afternoon, Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2011 Shamcey Supsup was given a formal send-off by Bb. Pilipinas Charities, Inc. as she leaves Wednesday for South America for a little-over-a-month-long journey which will take her first to Bogota, Colombia where she will have her final pasarela training and fittings for the Evening Gown and National Costume with renowned designer Alfredo Barraza. From there, she will hop on another plane for a 6-hour trip to her final destination -Sao Paulo, Brazil – where she will join more than 80 other dreamers in search for the title and the Diamond Nexus Lab crown that will sit on the head of Miss Universe 2011 on September 12.
What fate awaits our delegate? Too early to tell. But if her intensive local preparations under Venus Raj & Co. plus final polishing in Colombia are any indications, then she will surely give the other candidates a run for their money. The road to victory won’t be smooth, bumpy even. And if she is destined to make us proud in whatever accomplishment she reaches, then so be it!
Shamcey, nawa ay kasihan ka ng pinag-ibayong suwerte, katatagan ng dibdib at walang pag-aalinlangang pagpapakita ng tunay na kagandahan ng Pilipina sa buong mundo! 🙂

How’s our girl Shamcey Supsup doing in her training for Miss Universe 2011? Well, everything is being kept under wraps up to now, except for her regular Portuguese-speaking lessons at Berlitz. I’m certain that she religiously attends her frequent catwalk, make-up and fitting sessions with the pageant masters over at the Bb. Pilipinas headquarters. Thankfully, she remains effervescently beautiful as the day she won the national competition.
On top of this, she has been constantly guesting and appearing in various ABS-CBN (even ANC) shows to further hone her craft in public speaking, projection and all. From this angle, I trust that the network is doing everything possible to heighten her skills in public relations because it will count a lot once she joins dozens upon dozens of contenders in Brazil.
Personally, I still find Shamcey a bit underweight so it would help if her assigned gym trainer and nutritionist focus on this aspect within the next 30 days or so. But more importantly, the question that has been nagging the minds of her fans and supporters is this: Will she undergo a couple of non-invasive (or injectable) enhancements in Colombia before heading to Sao Paolo? Gut-feel tells me that she will. This despite her mother’s opposition to such. One thing is for sure. Just like Bianca Manalo, she will be staying in Bogota for a week (or a little more) to do final fittings for her evening gown and attend some pasarela classes to fine-tune her catwalk and posture on the ramp. Since the route is convenient and the flight from Bogota to Sao Paolo is just approximately 6 hours, this side trip is a no-brainer.
I am on the keen lookout for more of Shamcey’s development on a regular basis. Right now, she has not achieved 100% readiness yet. 80% perhaps? I would love for her to shine like Venus Raj despite the onslaught of raging beauties in the pageant. I know it is unwise to compare the two because they are completely different in looks, personal style and disposition. So what I expect to see is our representative get packaged as a fashionably-relaxed (Aussie-inspired aura if you will) gem with beauty that is more effortless and personality extra spontaneous.
If you missed a recent episode of the talk show “Future Perfect” on the ANC Channel, then here’s another opportunity to watch the same and appreciate the beauty and intelligence of 2011 Bb. Pilipinas-Universe and Magna cum Laude graduate Shamcey Supsup as she guested with a fellow bright mind, John Gabriel Pelias (who’s a Summa Cum Laude), from the state university.

The pride of General Santos City and our reigning Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Shamcey Supsup did not wait long before scheduling her return to Gensan where her provincemates warmly welcomed their latest pride.
A VIP motorcade around the city amidst the wild cheers of the people, plus the presence of local officials made her homecoming more memorable. Hopefully, the city will welcome her back come September as Miss Universe 2011! 😉

Some people think that Shamcey Gurrea Supsup had it easy during Bb. Pilipinas 2011 and that the right to represent the Philippines in the Miss Universe 2011 Pageant was handed to her on a silver platter. In reality, this 24 year-old lass from General Santos City probably went through one of the toughest national competitions ever, given the ferocious batch of ladies who have their eyes fixed on the top prize.
Consider this, she was fielded by Jonas Gaffud’s beauty camp along with tough as nails co-finalists Mary Jean Lastimosa, Diana Arevalo, Queenierich Rehman and Kristina Marasigan. And to add more pressure, Rodgil Flores’ group entered four more strong bets – Dianne Necio, Isabella Manjon, Patricia Tumulak and Kathleen Subijano (all in the Top 15 as well). It doesn’t stop there because a 3rd trainer – John dela Vega – had Sabrinne Al-Tawil, Janine Tugonon, Luzelle Felipe, Wendy Lucas and Jenn-Roe Gubat zooming to the all-important cut. And not to diminish the quality of the remaining candidates, she also had to keep an eye on those who have the backing of ABS-CBN such as Arabella Hanesh, Chloe McCully, Zephora Mayon and even the Clenci sisters.
So you see, Shamcey’s road to the Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2011 crown was anything but smooth. And throughout it all, she never displayed any signs of cockiness after discovering that she was indeed a heavy favorite to win. She did not even play up her academic pedigree – a Magna cum Laude graduate of the University of the Philippines College of Architecture who topped the June 2010 Licensure Examinations with a grade of 86.60% – to emphazise on her intellectual superiority. People lapped up and hyped on her credentials, but she wasn’t one to shout out to the whole world of the same.
Right before the April 10 finals, all sorts of predictions were posted in blogs (including this one) and social networking sites. Shamcey’s name was not a consistent placer in everyone’s Top 3 or Top 5 because the supporters alone of Patricia Tumulak, Dianne Necio, Sabrinne Al-Tawil, Isabella Manjon and Diana Arevalo were just as rabid in pushing for their own bets. But this never dampened her spirits and she went on with her personal cause of winning a crown.

On the night that it mattered most, this girl played her cards right. She had one of the best stylings and kept to mind all the trainings she underwent to insure that she effortlessly stands out among the 40 wannabes. Right from the introduction videos where she made a double swirl while introducing herself to the swimsuit round where she glided and sashayed onstage with the ease of a gazelle to the evening gown portion where she fashionably maximized her Cumbia creation’s potential to the fullest, she scooped a lion’s share of the Special Awards (Miss Philippine Airlines, Miss Creamsilk and Best in Talent) on her way to joining 14 others in the one and only cut of the evening.
From that point, half the battle was won because Q&A is known to be one of Shamcey’s strongest suits. But something relatively unexpected happened. Majority of the Top 15 handled their interviews in a decidedly articulate way that left the judges (as clearly echoed by one of them, Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda) more confused on who to select as winners. Fortunately, she did not let her guards down. As expected, she aced her answer to Ambassador Hugh Wilson’s question which sealed her victory.
When Shamcey’s name was announced as winner of Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2011, her reaction was an incessant mix of joy and surprise. Her constant muttering of “Oh my God!” indicated a sincerity that can be easily felt. If you just watch the crowning moment again, you will see her tight hug with Venus Raj (who also comes from Jonas Gaffud’s camp) with the latter whispering her parting shots of wisdom. Also, you can’t help but be touched when Diana Arevalo congratulated her and they were briefly shown in a loving eye-to-eye exchange of words.
So what’s next for her? B-R-A-Z-I-L, baby! Between now and August, she will undergo intensive training and development from BPCI. I’m dead sure that Venus Raj will make herself available to help in polishing our girl, what with the valuable tips that she can impart to guarantee a stand-out participation in Sao Paolo come September. Of course, her trips to the gym with the organizers’ officlal trainer are already booked, just as her further courses with Carnegie to enhance what she already has.
At this point, what we can do is show our love and support for Shamcey. Haters, steer clear, at least until the second half of September. If you have nothing constructive to share, then keep your silence. There’s just no room for bashing when all she needs are words of encouragement. The national competition is over. Let’s move on, and walk with her on the road to the Miss Universe crown! 😉
After votes were casted for my unofficial poll started last March 20, 2011, here are the final results. I decided to close the voting yesterday morning to give way for the tally to be posted before the finals night this coming Sunday, April 10).
Based on the 1,383 votes casted, here are the 15 ladies with the highest numbers (with corresponding percentages). Of course, it goes without saying the #1 on the list is your choice to win the top crown:
Shamcey Supsup - my blog readers' choice to win Bb. Pilipinas-Universe after garnering 15.62% of the votes.
Hi! Norman here. When I'm not working, I spend most of my free time planning on daily blogs. If you will notice, I always make sure that a fresh topic comes out everyday - not an easy thing to do but it's all good. Thanks for dropping by and enjoy the visit!
