Among the comers, there are two guys from Davao – one from the city proper and the other from Davao del Sur – vying for the titles at stake in Misters of the Philippines 2014. And these two guys are not letting up in their participation even if the more popularly hyped candidates keep piling up on the points going into the homestretch of the competition.
Jett Matela of Davao City, a Nursing graduate who works as a Review Assistant for Board Takers in his chosen profession, believs that pageants ingrain in him the responsibility “to become role models to fellow men, and to be aware of our values nowadays.”
He further adds that, “I want them to see me as a person who is filled with the power of determination, who never gives up, who does not settle for any form of mediocrity, and lastly to put God first in every situation and circumstances.”

On the other hand, Davao del Sur’s Bap Nograles Petel is a multi-talented performer who can do hosting, singing and theater acting. He holds two degrees – BS Computer Science and AB English – where he entered the Dean’s List in the process of completing both.
As stated in Bap’s bio, “Pageants like this are represented by different people from different places. Each person carries with him/her the culture of his/her province and everything the person is representing. Now, the function of these pageants is to cut the gap, connect the people, reveal the similarities and make these people as a one voice shouting in harmony for our beloved country.”
Jett and Bap are two different personalities who represent more than just different parts of Davao. They have pegs that are poles apart. But in the end, both guys are one in their mission – to bring back the honor to their places of origin.
