Here are photos and videos from the official sendoff hosted by ALV Pageant Circle for #MissEcoPhilippines 2022 #AshleySubijanoMontenegro who is all set to fly to Egypt tomorrow to represent the country in Miss Eco International. Our bet is ready! And she is up to the task of going for that back-to-back win.
Best of luck, have a good flight and do us proud, Ashley!
The days and weeks are passing by so fast. And by the second half of next month, Miss Eco Philippines 2022 Ashley Subijano Montenegro will fly to Egypt where she will join the other ladies who will compete in this year’s edition of Miss Eco International. Mind you, she is going for a back-to-back win for the country. And chances are bright that she is capable of doing it.
Watch out for more Ashley-related blogs as the dates of her international competition draw near!
L-R: Joanna Day, Roberta Tamondong, Patricia Go, Nicole Borromeo, Ethel Abellanosa, Joanna Rabe and Stacey Gabriel
I spent a big chunk of my Sunday at the Glass Ballroom of Okada Manila where I was invited to be part of the panel that conducted the mock Q&A/interviews with the seven (7) Binibinis of Aces & Queens for Binibining Pilipinas 2022. The other invited panelists were Ashties Moks Gonzáles and Candy Drilon-Dalman, beauty queen Ashley Montenegro, Adam Genato, Christian Baking (of The Qrown PH), Political Strategist Alhamed Uy and Rappler journalist Jairo Bolledo.
It was a very fulfilling experience that allowed us to assess the ladies more in-depth. Each one of them showed different styles of answering questions and expressing their views. But in general, I would say that all seven conducted themselves very well.
Below are some of my quick opinions about them:
#Binibini1 Stacey Gabriel – a very pleasant surprise who spoke with great impact. Her choice of words are well-thought of. And just when you expect her to be an out and out “inglesera”, she speaks in Filipino with just as much ease.
#Binibini14 Joanna Day – this Marine Biologist from Malolos, Bulacan knows her stuff with excellent clarity. A professional scuba diver, she convincingly expressed herself; a solid subject, I must add.
#Binibini20 Joanna Rabe – she has evolved well as a pageant candidate, and is able to personalize her advocacy for food security that helps in giving out a more relatable aura altogether.
#Binibini23 Nicole Borromeo – soft voice notwithstanding, this Cebuana has a very sincere outlook that can make any listener sit up and take notice of how she details her most authentic self with unmistakable charm.
#Binibini24 Patricia Samantha Go – this tall and personable Binibini grows on any interviewer the minute she reveals her special qualities as an individual. She can be unapologetically honest and that makes for a very interesting conversation that could score well on any judge’s score card.
#Binibini38 Ethel Abellanosa – clearly the most emotional among the seven, she has reached that point in her pageant career where there is no mincing of words anymore. She knows what she wants, but is also realistic about how to take the results – good or otherwise. I love her candid self.
#Binibini40 Roberta Tamondong – a real trouper who went through the challenging day despite being under the weather. She may be the youngest among them at 19, but shows the most polish. Her pageant experience clearly shows, while knowing when to stop short of giving in to any kind of pageant-patty ways. She is the camp’s flag-bearer for BBP.
I wish all seven the best in the remaining weeks of Binibining Pilipinas. At least two of them (Tamondong and Borromeo) can easily get clear shots for two of the crowns at stake, with a third one (Gabriel) possibly inching her way to the top if the breaks go her way.
Here are photos from the Official Sendoff hosted by Miss World Philippines Organization for our entries to the Festival of Beauty in Malapolska, Poland – Miss Supranational 2022 and Mister Supranational 2022.
#MissSupranationalPhilippines2022 Alison Black and #MisterSupranationalPhilippines2022 RaÉd Fernandéz Al-Zghayér are definitely excited about their upcoming journey to Poland for the competition. Our Queen will already depart on June 25, more than a week ahead of Raed who will fly on July 5.
All the reigning titleholders of MWPO – Gwen Fourniol, Ashley Subijano Montenegro, Sam Santamaria, Francesca Beatriz Mclelland, Justine Felizarta and Cassandra Bermeo Chan – attended the event along with National Director Arnold Vegafria. Kingsford Hotel Manila GM Joe Xavier Fijardo was on hand to welcome everyone.

As the national pageant with the most number of titles at stake, Miss World Philippines prides itself in giving more deserving candidates the opportunity to represent the country internationally. Five (5) ladies will be crowned on Sunday night – Miss World Philippines, Miss Supranational Philippines, Miss Eco Philippines, Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas and Miss Eco Teen Philippines. Even with the exclusion of the Miss Multinational and Miss Environment International franchises, plus the tired (and often used) Miss Philippines Tourism sash, the remaining honors still give the organization a competitive edge in pageantry.
The photo grid above represents my Top 16, regardless of the results of the different pre-pageant challenges. At any rate, I am confident that the majority of the fast-track winners are already included. So from this grouping, I will go straight to who are likely to battle it out for each of the crowns:
For Miss World Philippines 2022, Ashley Subijano Montenegro has always been the default choice of many, mostly because her pedigree is a great back story should she nail the title that her mother – Cara Subijano- also won back in Bb. Pilipinas 1994. Other than this and her imposing height, the plus points are spread evenly among the other contenders. And this is where either a rising challenger or a come-from-behind winner can snatch the win. In my mind, Filipina-French Gwendolyne Fourniol is the most likely to take a spirited spin on the wheel in her favor. She fits the Miss World peg and could be likened by Julia Morley in that eventuality. She is a global beauty in progress. Can you imagine her singing “La Vie En Rose” for Miss World Talent (video below)? Now as far as a spoiler goes, Charyzah Esparrago has a glimmer of hope, especially if she gets to hold the mic for a convincingly-worded speech.
For Miss Supranational Philippines 2022, it could be a toss between Ingrid “Sam” Santamaria and Maria Gigante. They both have the qualities that will be highly appreciated by the organizers in Poland – modelesque and exotic, respectively. If it all came down to the Q&A, the Cebuana is anticipated to make a homerun. But that is not to say that the Paranaqueña will make it easy in the process.
For Miss Eco Philippines 2022, do keep in mind that the winner will go for a back-to-back win in Egypt. While it is not impossible for such to happen, the organization has not bestowed the victory to the same country two times in a row to date. At any rate, I would like to take a risk and opt for Cassandra Chan or Alison Black getting the nod for the national title. Either of the two would make excellent representatives, with or without the pressure of succeeding Kathleen Paton for the bigger crown hanging around their necks.
For Reina Hispanoamericana Filipinas, this appears to be a foregone conclusion as early as the announcement of Official Candidates. In our years of participation in Bolivia, we have not sent a Spanish-speaking delegate yet. And Paula Ortega is the targeted choice to be it. She also happens to be tall, charming and muy amistosa. Now if she doesn’t luck out for this crown, then Justine Felizarta might just finally get what she has been looking for. Still, I feel that it is going to be lopsided in favor of the Albayana.
For Miss Eco Teen Philippines, the entry from Aklan seems to be in the lead. Beatriz McLelland is smart, well-spoken and very confident. Unless the judges and the organization go for someone with raw but promising potentials like Erika Vinculado or Vea Bautista, it will look like a victorious night for the Aklanon.
So there. The runners-up are likely to come from any of the ladies as well, unless the likes of Erika Kristensen or Patricia Dizon vault into placement. My only hope is for the Finals not to drag as long as last year’s. If there is one thing the pandemic taught me, it is to regularly sleep before midnight and not lose sleep on lengthy events, if it can be helped. 🙂
PostScript: How true? There will be a sixth (6th) surprise of a #new crown for tomorrow night’s Miss World Philippines 2022 Finals.

In what could be hints on what to expect in the results of the Miss World Philippines 2022 Coronation Night on Sunday, the Charity Gala held in Okada Manila conducted the Top Model Challenge of the competition. National Director Arnold Vegafria announced the ladies who made the Top 10 in the said challenge, as follows:
21 Paula Madarieta Ortega, Albay
17 Sam Santamaria, Parañaque
16 Carla Manuel, Manila
20 Ashley Subijano Montenegro, Makati
25 Gwen Fourniol, Negros Occidental
35 Patricia McGee, Zambales
24 Alison Black, Las Piñas
22 Cassandra Bermeo Chan, San Juan
26 Aliana Joaquin, Bacoor City
34 Beatriz McLelland, Aklan
Let’s see how close this list will compare to the chosen ones for the crown.
Also, the Top 5 in the Talent Competition performed last night.
