I don’t deny my developing friendships and fondness for the forty Binibinis of Bb. Pilipinas 2018. After all, this was the same scenario in the last two years when I really went out of my way to be close to all the candidates so I can size them up better in terms of personality and Queen-worthiness.
During the Store Tour last week at Ali Mall, my colleague Mario Dumaual (of ABS-CBN) was teasing me to no end. When his crew was filming the arrival of the Binibinis at Pizza Hut, they were able to capture every single one of them giving me a buss on the cheek while in line according to number. Perhaps, it is something that I treasure in the coverage. They have started to trust me in a way that I would always spin positivity about them instead of posting unpleasant thoughts of divisiveness. I know that this is still a tough competition first and foremost. But I want all forty to enjoy the journey and collect good memories all throughout. Every minute I spend with them is very much appreciated. I will just worry about separating the potential winners from the rest once the date of the Coronation Night is just 2-3 days away.
For now, Happy Valentine’s Day to all the Binibinis and to you, my dear readers!
When Bb. Pilipinas Official FB Page uploaded the group photos of the Binibinis below, many people are stunned with the combinations in each shot. Are these photos prophetic or plain coincidental? You tell me, dear readers.
In groups of 5 and 4 now:

Karen, Vickie, Aya, Eva and Catriona

Michele, Muriel, Ahtisa, Samantha Mae and Sandra

Kayesha, Edjelyn, Jehza, Patrik and Wynonah

Janette, Rosan, Rose, Stephanie and Istie

Samantha A, Angelica, Sarah and Patrizia

Jerelleen, Angelie, MJ and Anjame

Sophia, Juliana, Agatha and KC

Kathrine, Sigrid, Shane, Ena and Janice
For several years now, the relationship has not changed. It has grown even stronger, if I may add.
And there is an excellent reason why GOLD’S GYM Philippines is the official workout partner of the Binibinis and Bb. Pilipinas. The health and fitness place makes sure that our ladies are always in the best of shape and ready to face the physical demands of the competition. Here are official photos from their visit to the same.
Since I have already posted their respective “In the Spotlight” features before the personal interview videos were uploaded by the Bb. Pilipinas Official page on FB, I thought of sharing three (3) of them for you to watch and give comments once more.
Here are your #Binibini2 Kathrine Ventura, #Binibini4 Ana Patricia Asturias and #Binibini40 Angelie Aubrey Asuncion:
She was Binibini 38 last year. This time around, Ana Patricia ‘Patrik’ Asturias from Tacloban City is your #Binibini4 in Bb. Pilipinas 2018. The licensed Interior Designer and Restaurateur is more than eager to win and make her presence felt. And she has a lot of thoughts to share about this second journey in the nationals. Here goes:
“They say, we are only as good as the chances we take. The chance I unexpectedley took last year made me land as a finalist in bb. pilipinas, and it turned out to be a really memorable experience for me that I know I will always look back at in my life. Not only did I come out of my shell, I made life long friends, oppurtunities opened for me and I gained wisdom and mentors who I learned so much from. The experience of joining the first time was a test of self-control, patience and endurance. It challenged me and brought me to find who I truly desire to be as a person. It made 2017 the year of growth for me.
It feels great to be back knowing that I am a better and much happier person. I see how people have a desire to learn from my experience from BbP2017 as well as being a designer and entrepreneur. The thought of knowing my capacity to influence inspired me and made me persevere to make improvements in myself, to push myself to do better every single day – at work, at home, as a friend, to my community, and for my own personal well-being. It took me awhile to find it in my heart to compete once more. But one day, looking back at the months that have passed, it strongly occured to me that everything I was doing led to that point. The fact that I kept asking myself over and over again if I would compete for a second time meant that I needed to be here once more.”
When asked about how she will give a more inspired go for one of the 2018 crown, this is what Patrik said.
“It’s the love and support of the people around me that make me feel inspired. My family, friends, supporters, mentors – they are my edge and motivation to do better this time with the belief that a winner is not about being the best of the rest and finding validation in this competition. You never know if you’re gonna bag a crown or not. All you have to do as a candidate is to always come prepared and make sure you make a great performance in every occasion. You come to Bb. Pilipinas as a winner in life – having something confidently to share. It’s about sharing who you are as a person, what you know and what you believe in. I have so much I would like to continuously share and experience. That is the ultimate reason why I’m here. Beauty will always be subjective and each one will have different opinions, all I can say is that I am truly myself and I have so much enthusiasm to be in this journey with all of you!”

Anyways, the usual suspects were formally introduced. I cannot name all of them yet (especially the newbies) so as to protect their identities for now. Not all of them will make it to the list of Binibinis for 2018, and as I have said, some of them are being prepared for MWP2018 instead.
The familiar names and faces so far are Volleyball superstar and former PBB Housemate Michele Gumabao, Miss Bicolandia 2017 Kayesha Clauden Chua, MWP2016 4th Princess Sandra Lemonon, Bb. Niyogyugan 2016 & Reyna ng Aliwan 2017 2nd Runner-Up Ahtisa Manalo, runway model Annalita Vizcarra, MWP2017 2nd Princess Zara Carbonell, Cebuana top model Wynonah Buot, 2015’s Binibini 33 Neesha Murjani, last year’s Binibini 28 Juliana Kapeundl plus Binibini 38 Anna Patricia Asturias.
Now how about the two heavyweights I mentioned above? Well, let’s just say that they could spell a good difference in the competition the minute they formally file their respective applications. One is a crossover national titleholder, while the other lady is the daughter of a former Bb. Pilipinas titleholder. Call it Alcoholics Anonymous meets Fifty Shades Freed. (Get it?) 😉

Well, the list of 25 names was accurate. Dindi Pajares surprisingly did not make it far enough to even participate in the swimsuit and evening gown competitions. Was she the 26th in rank or worse? That is a question that will now remain unanswered.
Since Day 1, I know that the forty (40) Binibinis have been strictly observed and assessed by BPCI like a pool of teachers and advisers (or Prefects of Discipline if you will) grading them almost on a daily basis, or at least everytime they had to report for duty and fulfill their duties as Official Candidates. You can say that all of them began with perfect scores of 100 at the onset and it’s up to the ladies on how to keep the mark perfect or sacrifice deductions along the way. This could be inclusive of attendance, punctuality, deportment and overall conformity to the house rules and regulations. Having covered beauty pageants for the longest time, I know this to be a regular practice. While I’m not specifying or confirming on any irregularities in Dindi’s accord (or lack thereof) with what BPCI prescribed and demanded, I can see no other valid reason why she would fall short of pageant performance. She deserved to make Top 25 at the very least if the sole basis would be the public and social media judgment of the line-up this year. In fact, she could have easily breezed through Top 15 just like last year when she joined for the first time.
Whatever the hard truth is behind the snub of Dindi Pajares, I will stop from further investigating into the question because this is already something beyond the parameters of my media-related business with Bb. Pilipinas. And even if I reach clarity on the matter, it would have been shared to me in confidence. Off the record, I must add.

The whole of Monday was literally spent by team normannorman.com at the David’s Salon Academy in Makati City where Joy Arguil, Joseph Gerard Jose and I bonded and took photos with the Binibinis of Bb. Pilipinas 2017 upon the exclusive invitation of Marketing Manager Lotte Villarosa-Agraviador. The event started with a short lecture on the role of the salon company in the nationals, followed by delightful games that were gleefully participated in by the ladies and the stylists. Right about lunchtime, everyone was treated to a simple but yummy buffet before the pampering sessions started. Everyone was treated to relaxing back massages, mani/pedi and foot spas that were accompanied by cool loot bags that contained products that will help them maintain healthy hair and nails.
Hair and Make-Up consultations were also made with the assigned stylists for each Binibini and were given experimental approaches as to what facial applications best suit them. And to cap everything off, David’s Salon owner David Charlton dropped by to have group photos with the ladies and even brought them easter egg chocolates which came all the way from London.
It was fun all throughout, especially for your blogger who really took the opportunity to spend quality time talking to almost everyone. I can now safely say that this is a 99% cool batch of ladies who have the right attitude and personalities to compete for the crowns at stake. Why did I say 99%? Well, you do the math. No batch is uber perfect since there will always be an odd one out in terms of chemistry with everyone. I won’t name a name anymore since she is just one different apple in terms of character and disposition. Who knows, she might still improve her ways and turn out good in less than two weeks’ time.Allow me also to point out the quality bonding I spent with random Binibinis. I say random because I caught them by their lonesome at given moments and the initial pleasantries turned into more meaningful chats in the process. Big shoutout to #Binibini2 Arienne Calingo, #Binibini19 Rachel Peters, #Binibini20 Christa Borja, #Binibini21 Jamaica Ambal, #Binibini23 Arah Salientes, #Binibini31 Katarina Rodriguez, #Binibini32 Charmaine Elima, #Binibini33 Istie Cequeña, #Binibini37 Sammie Anne Legaspi and #Binibini39 Elizabeth Clenci. I loved practically all of them, though!

“Now that it’s Holy Week, I have the good opportunity to share to people one thing I prepared for Binibining Pilipinas, and that is to get to know myself on a spiritual level. I learned that one quality of a beauty queen in order to lead is to have a strong identity. You can only have a strong identity once you start to get to know yourself spiritually.
I am a Catholic Christian. I grew up going to church every Sunday, saying a prayer before meals and before going to sleep. I was raised the Catholic Filipino way. I believe in God and I believe our existence is mainly to glorify Him. Above all, the relationship we have with Him is what I believe is most important. The faith I have in myself and in God is what makes me firmly grounded. It is what makes me confidently ready to face anything that life throws at me.
Ultimately, I believe that life is about knowing good and doing good. Religion, Race, Cultural difference create division and diversity, but we all know “goodness” once we see it. When we are treated good, we feel great and that we want to do something good in return; there’s that half-second moment of understanding that we feel like we are coming from the same roots. We all know “good” when we see it, simply because our spiritual purpose in life is to do good, and avoid evil.
As what I always say in every introduction I make, I believe life is about finding purpose. Knowing what you believe in is part of the journey in knowing how to shape your own life. In this journey less than a month towards the coronation night, I realized that a prepared mind, heart and soul is what makes me ready for a crown.”
Patrik is ready for any outcome that will happen in her Bb. Pilipinas journey. Win or lose, she is certain of coming out a stronger and more confident individual ready to face bigger opportunities in life.
Please keep on supporting Patrik in the Miss Photogenic and Jag Denim Queen voting of the competition. She will happily appreciate your efforts. 🙂
