Alexandria Mills of the USA was the last to be crowned in Sanya, and Bb. Pilipinas World 2010 Czarina Gatbonton was our country’s unplaced rep then. Will the tide change this year? Or will Sanya continue to be a less giving host for Miss World Philippines? What do you think, dear readers? 😉

Some people think that being Miss World – despite the constant ‘Beauty With A Purpose’ thrust – is all glamour and traveling around the globe. Well, that’s true. There is the glam part, but only a small percentage compared to the entirety of responsibilities. She needs to look fabulous during fundraising events after all. And the traveling? It is imperative. How else can she fulfill her purpose inside a condo in London? But in my opinion, one thing that sets Miss World apart is that she cannot, will not and has never been fake in reaching out to others and bringing sincere service to the underprivileged. A true blue-crown wearer should really have the heart to help without pretensions.
Former Miss World Alexandria Mills of the US was able to prove that to Julia Morley during her 2010-2011 reign. She may not have the most flashy stints, but whenever she did her global mission, one can definitely see the good soul this woman has.
May the next winner be the same, but with the extra beautiful noise that can be heard by people around the world. 🙂
Let’s be honest. I think there’s no big contest here in terms of their being magazine cover girls.
Miss Universe titleholders are definitely way ahead in this regard. First of all, they always find their way splashed on the cover of so many international magazines. Google one name and you will end up with so many choices. They are better-networked in different countries, despite being mostly in Latin America.
On the other hand, there seems to be a dearth of magazine covers for Miss World winners. Except for our Miss World 2013 Megan Young who has bannered quite a number of publications, the rest are quite hard to find, futile even. In fact, the image of MW2010 Alexandria Mills below is not genuine but just a simple pageant fan art output. Plus, MW2012 Wenxia Yu’s turn had to be shared with former Miss World Indonesia Vania Larissa.
So who make better cover girls? Well, the world is a glossier oyster for Donald Trump’s winners. Don’t you agree? 😉
Looks like the runner-up is going to do better than the winner. At least that’s the case with Olivia Jordan who placed 1st Runner-Up to Mabelynn Capeluj in Miss California 2013.
The Beverly Hills babe that she is, Olivia is now finalizing her wardrobe and travel essentials before leaving for Jakarta, Indonesia in a week’s time to be the representative of the United States of America in Miss World 2013.
After initial mix-ups on who will really be Miss World United States, the buck stops on this lovely Californian who is giving a kind of Alexandria Mills (Miss World 2010) vibe, but way cooler and not the least bit clueless in my opinion.
Your quick assessment/s on Olivia Jordan, please? 😉
Months before the announcement of Allyn Rose’s appointment as Miss World USA 2013, she was supposed to undergo a double mastectomy operation (“…to reduce her chances of developing the disease that killed her mother, grandmother and great aunt”. But it seems that – barring any serious medical complications – plans have changed. She is now being prepared for that long-haul trip to Bali and Jakarta, Indonesia for Miss World 2013.
Such is the story of Allyn’s pageant life. Having participated in both Miss America 2013 (wearing the D.C. sash) and Miss USA 2011 (for Maryland) national pageants, she is always ready and able to represent the US the best way that she can. The girl, who used to be a figure roller skater, was and has always been a very competitive individual.
Right now, she is studying to become a lawyer, while dabbling in an assortment of modeling jobs in between. But all of that would have to take a backseat for now. She is hyped to bring out the most qualified American candidate for Julia Morley’s beauty caravan.
Will Allyn Rose do an Alexandria Mills? Let’s watch for it. 😉
P.S. It appears that Allyn Rose won’t be representing the US in Miss World 2013 after all. According to her Twitter updates, another girl was selected to go to Indonesia. The details, however, remain elusive.
From a field of 113 beautiful candidates, one lady rose from the ranks and was crowned Miss World 2011 in glittering final rites held at Earl’s Court in London.
Ivian Sarcos of Venezuela was selected winner and in the process defeated a large group of competitors vying for the prestigious title held by last year’s Alexandria Mills of the US.
Making up her court of beauties are First Runner-Up Gwendoline Ruais of the Philippines (who should have won in my opinion) and Second Runner-Up Amanda Vilanova of Puerto Rico.
At the start of the live coronation, the list of 113 was trimmed down to just thirty (30) delegates with the highest preliminary scores and fast-track points. From here, their individual scores were shown on the way to revealing only fifteen (15) names who remained in contention for the crown. Afterwards, the Top 7 were announced and were then subjected to further scrutiny by the Board of Judges with a final Q&A.
Congratulations to all the winners, but most especially to Gwendoline Ruais for being the highest-placed Filipina in Miss World since 1973! 🙂

You have been my favorite right from the start. You have to be seen in person to be fully appreciated and in awe of your beauty.
I know that you will shine in London, girl! 🙂
One lady will have her life changed tonight.
Miss World Philippines 2011 will be crowned during formal pageant ceremonies at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) and will earn the right to represent the country in Miss World 2011 to be held in London, UK on November 6. Since we’re more than halfway through September, the winner will be immediately whisked to more trainings, makeovers and fittings because she will definitely be flying to the contest site next month.
Among the 25 contenders, I have fearlessly trimmed down the list to what I term my “Pick 7 Ladies” – the ones who I feel are best fits for the mold of a Miss World candidate. They are, in this particular order of personal preference:
Obviously, my pick to win is Gwendoline Ruais. I simply love this statuesque Fil-French stunner. Gut feel tells me that she will rock the Miss World stage if ever. But close on her heels is Helen Nicolette Henson who will definitely give the former stiff competition. If not for a middling height, she could easily be a shoo-in for the top spot. Let’s see if one of these two ladies will nail the title tonight!
Reigning Miss World Alexandria Mills will crown the winner. The Board of Judges will include boxer Manny Pacquiao, actress Iza Calzado, Dr. Vicki Belo and Fashion Designer/Make-up Specialist Fanny Serrano.
Who’s your pick to win? 😉
Miss World Philippines 2011 will air over GMA-7 tonight at 10pm after Protege’

Here for the contract signing of the new franchise for Miss World-Philippines are the indefatigable Julia Morley who heads Miss World Limited, Inc., the reigning Miss World Alexandria Mills from the USA and her 1st Runner-Up Emma Wareus from Botswana. Franchise owner Cory Quirino warmly welcomed the group and made sure that their short stay in the country is memorable.
The very first edition of Miss World-Philippines will be staged this year and I’m sure it will be a big one. 😉
