Miss International 2012 must really be sad. Ikumi Yoshimatsu is the only Japanese winner of the title in the pageant’s long history and yet, she cannot crown her successor tonight. No farewell walk either.
Blame it on some contract dispute she got involved with. And the Miss International organizers do not want to have anything to do with the controversy, let alone veering away the spotlight from the finals with the appearance of Ikumi.
As a result, Miss International 2008 Alejandra Andreu will be on hand to do the ceremonial relinquishing of crown and sash to the new titleholder.
Reigning Bb. Pilipinas-International Melody Gersbach was honored with a send-off by the Bb. Pilipinas Charities, Inc. to the Miss International 2009 to be held in Chengdu, Province of Sichuan, China. The lovely Fil-German Bicolana is 23 years old, stands 5’6″ and measures an eye-catching 34-24-34. Her main objective is to capture a 5th Miss International crown for the country and follow the footsteps of victorious Filipinas in the same pageant – Gemma Cruz (1965), Aurora Pijuan (1971), Melanie Marquez (1979) and Precious Lara Quigaman (2005.)
Melody Gersbach waves to well-wishers during her send-off to Miss International 2009.
Melody will be joining around 60 other representatives from around the world as they compete for the crown currently being held by Alejandra Andreu of Spain. Finals will be on November 28.
With Melody's fresh face and disarming features, she is sure to make heads turn in Chengdu, China.
Melody Gersbach's aim is to become the 5th Filipina to win the Miss International crown.
Best of luck to Melody! As people say, bring home the bacon!
