The name is Yityish Titi Aynaw. Unique but still easy to remember. What’s easier to keep in mind is the fact that she is the first from Israel’s Ethiopian-Israeli minority to win Miss Israel, thus representing the country in Miss World 2013.
21 year-old Yityish migrated with her family to Israel when she was only 12. And in a news article posted in The Times of Israel, it made mention of how she was able to blend in among the locals growing up, as follows:
“…Aynaw, who served as an officer during her military service, said her integration into Israeli society had been greatly eased because she had been “thrown into the deep end” in the state school system, “and I learned to swim,” rather than placed in separate Ethiopians-only classes.
She also said she hoped “to represent all Israelis” as Miss Israel, rather than specifically championing the cause of Ethiopian Israelis. She said it would be an honor to represent Israel on the international stage, and that she thought it would reflect well on Israel to have an Ethiopian-born beauty queen.”
For now, people are stating in unison that Yityish has Miss World written all over her face, and that she is very likely to do a Linor Abargil (Miss World 1998 from Israel) to become Israel’s 2nd Miss World, while following Agbani Darego’s footsteps to become only the 2nd Miss World of African descent.
Will the Indonesians love her? But more importantly, will Julia Morley take a major shine on her? Let’s keep an eye on this lady come September. 😉
