Come Monday, May 10, the Philippine national elections will be held. And since part of the ballot is to select 12 names for the same number of Senatorial slots available, I would like to share the dozen individuals who will be getting my vote. You will notice that majority of them are relative unknowns in the world of politics and it is precisely this reason I am putting faith in them. I have made analysis of all the wannabes and, instead of supporting the popular ones, a good chunk of newbies should be given a chance to serve the country.
This is in alphabetical order:

Neric Acosta (LP) - His fight for education is an excellent cause in the Senate. Neric is a true underdog who deserves our support in his bid

Dr. Martin Bautista (LP) - the balikbayan doctor - who promises to serve only one term if elected as Senator - is an appropriate voice for the OFWs as well as Health bills requiring swift passage in the upper house.

Rep. Ruffy Biazon (LP) - he may take his popularity from being the son of Rodolfo Biazon, but he will surely make his mark in the senate fighting for the welfare of the military plus law & order.

Rep. Risa Hontiveros (LP) - she's not just a pretty face after proving in the lower house that she has what it takes to be a well-respected congresswoman. Now that she is making an attempt to step up to the senate plate, she needs our support now more than ever.

Atty. Alex Lacson (LP) - he may suffer from being constantly associated with the more infamous 'Lacson', but Atty. Alex stands firm on his own as a nation-building advocate who will devote his time for the welfare of the marginalized sectors in the country.

Yasmin Lao (LP) - Little may be known about her, but this women's rights advocate and peace activist is far more aligned with the forward-thinking disposition that the Senate badly needs.

Rep. Bongbong Marcos (NP) - this is one selection that took me a lot of rumination. But setting aside my prejudices, I opted to look at what he has achieved for the Ilocos Region. I believe that he can be a productive member of the Senate without resorting to grandstanding and sensationalism.

Sen. Serge Osmena (LP) - he is, I believe, the worthier Osmena to support. This low profile individual performs his hands-on senatorial duties without requiring the press covering every good deed along the way. He is the only long-time senior public servant in my dozen.

Atty. Gwen Pimentel (NP/PDP/Laban) - she may be her father's daughter, but Gwen still has a mind of her own. She speaks with a lot of sense and will surely put all her learnings in legislation to good use as a Senator.

Rep. Ompong Plaza (NPC) - another obscure name in the race for the non-Political follower. Rep. Ompong is no-nonsense and will be one of the few big voices for Mindanao. This is one guy who will walk the walk and talk the talk.

Sonia Roco (LP) - she is finally on her own and outside the shadows of the late Sen. Raul Roco. The "Inang Guro" will share more than a motherly presence in the Senate. A true-blue educator, she will be at the forefront of uplifting Philippine education together with Neric Acosta.

Atty. Adel Tamano (NP) - there's more to his good looks than people care to see. Some may perceive him as a publicity hound, but who is not when you enter politics and the opportunity arises? Truth be told, Atty. Tamano does not only talk like a typical legal eagle. He thinks on his feet and reasons with a lot of sensibilities.
And since we will vote for one Party-List, my choice has been firmly etched from the start…ANG LADLAD
I don’t need to explain myself on this. Being a proud gay individual, my support for the organization is crystal clear. I may not espouse same-sex marriage, but there are far more significant issues affecting the gay men and women in the Philippines deserving to be heard in congress.
