The Race to the Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Crown

Imagine this, if you will.

A horse race with eleven (11) competitive jockeys at the starting gate.

And then the starting pistol was fired.

During the first furlong, two thoroughbreds grabbed the lead – securing their spots as horse bettors’ picks.

Going into the second to fourth furlongs, though, the initially underrated thoroughbreds started to step up and take the lead one after the other.

Now that the race is starting to wind up, the initial leaders are back at the top of their games and looking more and more like big winners.

Who will cross the finish line first?

That is the story of Miss Universe Philippines 2023 from where I blog.

At the onset, Pauline Amelinckx of Bohol and Michelle Dee of Makati jumped to the lead in fast and furious fashion.

And then slowly, the likes of Krishnah Gravidez of Baguio, Angelique Manto of Pampanga, Klyza Castro of Davao Oriental, Samantha Panlilio of Cavite, Emmanuelle Vera of Cebu Province and even Christine Opiaza of Zambales started proving their individual mights to the excitement of their fans and supporters. Now the race is becoming very competitive.

Now that we are on the penultimate day before the Finals, the momentum has suddenly shifted back to Amelinckx and Dee. The Preliminaries have greatly helped their causes.

It’s all up to the Boholana and the Makatizen if they will allow other comers to muddle up their positions at the top.

As for me, I vote for Pauline Amelinckx as Miss Universe Philippines 2023. I like Michelle Dee as well, but the former is looking like the template the Miss Universe Organization is searching for.

    The one under the radar is Sorsogon, the beauty and charm is wow

    Klyza will be good for either MWP or MEP , nobody has ever been both MWP & MEP

  5. Pauline should win, but I’m expecting Michelle to win despite her being out of my Top 5.

    I was excited for Michelle to enter the pageant scene before, but her performances after MWP lack impact. She’s well-spoken, but she almost always seems to fail to give impactful answers. Don’t get me started with her awkward walk, awkward poses, awkward turns, awkward facial expressions, etc. I have seen no improvement.

    I still believe that 2022 should’ve been Pauline and our streak should’ve been longer, but it was very obvious that the organization really wanted Celeste to win (giving pageant-patty questions because Celeste will choke of the questions given were social issues, etc.). If they could do it last year, they could do it again this year. I’ll be very sad for Pau if she’ll be *potentially* robbed again this year.

    Anyways, I’m hoping that this will happen:

    This edition of MUP did not excite me mainly probably because of this has turned out to be a battle of formidable repeaters. I didn’t think there’s a dark horse that can tear the wall of MMD and Pauline.

    Now, if MUP can prove me wrong and take some risks in sending a fresh faced candidate again.

  10. Sana sa coronation night bonggahan naman nila yung stage! Yung malaking stage di katulad nyang prelims na yan na parang pang baranggay lang! Masyadong maliit yung stage hindi tuloy maipakita yung paglakad, ilang hakbang pa lang, u-turn na agad! As usual tinipid na naman, budget???

  11. With El Salvador being the host, sending a half white candidate will be a….. Mestiza is the norm there. Hahaha mas bongga siguro kung mukhang Pinay talaga ipadala like Davao oriental. I know mahilig mga Latinos sa bombshell ala Riyo Mori etc.

  13. It’s all about destiny, timing and luck. Somebody off the radar might just spring a surprise and conversely, a stumble, a misstep or a mental block in the Q&A would prevent the favorites & frontrunners from clinching the crown or worse, an exclusion from the final five. Good luck ladies

  14. Saw the prelims.
    Sad to say that MUP 2023 as the other commenters her mentioned, is a weak batch.
    Even the veterans didn’t perform like veterans.
    Perhaps they’ll all get their groove and their fire on come finals night.

  17. Worth repeating that this batch is a weak batch. And among this weak batch, Pauline will be the best choice.

    If we will truly believe in the new template of MU that facial beauty does not matter (that much) but advocacy, personality, and all the new template of MU, then it should be Pauline. I really have a problem with her face, parang moon or siopaw-ish. She is pretty in “pretty girl next door “ type but far from the facial caliber of past winners.

    But what is the alternative ba?

    Michelle is so hard to watch. Especially in the long gown. Someone mentioned it here. CRINGEY. She acquired so many affectations.

    Samantha….Never Mind. She is the male version of Ciara Sotto (and Ciara looks masculine na as it is ha….lol). I wonder how she looks like without the layers upon layers of make up. Again, if she didn’t even place in a third-rate beauty pageant years ago….

    The rest of the girls, ho-hummm. Ang daming hinog-sa-pilit. Kitang kita on how they project themselves. Many can be lumped into two categories: Starlet or Tita. There is even a third category : Starlet na Tita. Lol.

    Oh well. This is what we have come to.

  19. Surry pero kahit best looking na ito ni Pau, hindi ko talaga sya nakikita for MU, sayang kung MW sana mas malaki ang chances nya to win. Parang ang bilis nya kasi matatabunan ng ibang lahi pag MU na, parang hindi pa versatile sa look. Paano na yan kapag nahawakan ng MUBA? wkwkwkwkwk.

    One could argue that MMD is the same pero duh, na-s-sport nya nga both long and short hair ng maganda. Admittedly, kung bukas na MU hindi pa sya ready pero training nalang sa pasarela at facial expressions, kabog na yan wkwkwkw

  20. I hope not ’cause I don’t really see a Khun Anne MU aura in Pauline kahit peaking na sya ngayon, actually, none of the girls are, unfortunately.

    But Michelle Dee can still achieve the R’Bonney standard with a bit of the right training. She has big chance to get there in just a short time

  22. Sa aking fearless forecast. Char. Ang weak ng batch na ito. Si Amelinckx parang body builder and built nya yung EWAN bakit parang kamukha nya si Hydilin Díaz. Si Dee naman flat chested at ewan parang robot na chimay at lets face the fact hindi sya maganda. Ewan bumalik na naman tayo sa dark ages ng Philippine pageantry char.

    • Most of the girls performed like robots. You don’t see the individuality anymore. Somebody should tell them they look silly with their affectations, flashing the whole gamut of human emotions (pa tweetums to fierce) in 10 seconds, the hand movements, the snap & turn , the body contortions that would rival that of the legendary Pilita Corrales and I swear, some looked like they were in their orgasmic throes. Tone it down ladies

    • Sa paningin mo lang pala eh.🤣. Don’t worry, the judges and committees have eyes, expertise and judgment better than yours.hahah

  24. No one comes close to Pauline’s wit + pagiging komportable nya to express her thoughts in English. Kahit anong itanong hindi ka kakabahan kung makakasagot ba ng maayos at may laman.

  27. Dee and Panlilio’s performances betrayed their experience. Dee’s was especially hard to watch, cringeworthy–crazy eyes and out of place poses. Makeup also flattened out her flat features even more. Panlilio has had way too much work done and way too heavy extensions.

    Sometimes its best to leave pageantry on a high note (a la Tiglao and likely Magtanong and Manalo).

    Navea-Huff performed better than both. Just fun and free. No overthinking.

      I agree with you re: Navea-Huff. Flawless yung walk nya, spontaneous and, like you said, fun and free. Medyo na out of balance lang sya sa isang pose nya. But overall, I was surprised and am happy for her. She still reminds me of Cherry Pie Picache though. I’m sure she nailed the interview. Plus her voice is to die for!

      • Yes, Our queens these days are too robotic. Calculado to the max (Gravidez).

        They are not being sensual and fierce, they are trying too hard.

    • It’s still MMD for me. She has a solid advocacy, very Oriental looking, statuesque, nice body proportion, very classy and can speak well.
      Pauline for me is exerting too much effort and she’s just an ordinary girl.
      Pauline’s advocacy is not that as solid as Michelle. Di talaga MU prototype si Pauline, pero she’s fit for Supra.

    • Tanong ko lang, justgrc. Why didn’t you include Pauline considering na 3rd attempt na nya ito (leave pageantry on a high note)?

    • Saludo aq sa choices mo, Miss Tissa. Ask ko lang why you didn’t find Gravidez’s SS performance to be top 7 worthy. She had me the moment she untied her sarong.

      I like Manto but I felt her tentativeness. Dee was “too slow” for me. Panlilio was ok but I felt like hindi synchronized yung galaw niya (upper body from her legs).

      • I admit I am not an expert, but my choices are based only on what I have seen. You have a point naman, siguro I just didn’t see what you saw. But in my top 10, Gravidez is still included.

    • Correction ko sa below: I actually rewatched Panlilio’s. She had 2 or 3 missteps, in my opinion.
