Miss Philippines Earth 2023 Press Presentation

The Miss Philippines Earth 2023 candidates were formally introduced during the Press Presentation held at the poolside area of Lime Resort Manila. Inspite of the hot weather, the sun cooperated and allowed the clouds to shield everyone from the heat. The ladies paraded in identical two-piece swimwears by Ricky Ramirez Abad.

True to tradition, the Darlings of the Press were named as follows:
#Gold Yllana Marie Aduana of Siniloan, Laguna
#Silver Nicolle Lagera of Fil-Comm California, USA
#Bronze Lasil Relevo of Balayan, Batangas

With the many copycats mushrooming around, and its environment protection advocacy easily flanked by other big branded pageants, ME has to reimagine its strategic posture in this Sustainability Generation. While its avowed advocacy is timely and relevant, the manner of choosing its Philippine spokesperson is still very eurocentric– vavaboom body, to die-for pasarela, Western facial features and/or aura. The advocacy of the new MU queen is sustainable fashion, an upcycling of used throw-away garments that just end up in landfills. The advocacy of the new MI queen is animal protection. What advocacy are the MUP winners known for that the organizers communicate audibly to its audience? I hope the phrase “Earth Warrior” will not be just a tagline, but a real imagery of a feisty woman fighting for ways to arrest the ill-effects of climate change.

    • Warriors are best seen in battlegrounds, not in the barracks. Similarly, Earth Warriors need to be visible in the fight against global warming, not in posh hotels clad in skimpy bikinis and glittering gowns.
