Australia is going for win #3 in the 71st Miss Universe with Monique Riley

Australia has won the Miss Universe title twice in the past – Kerry Anne Wells in 1972 and Jennifer Hawkins in 2004. For the 71st Miss Universe, Miss Universe Australia Monique Riley – who is a 27-year-old actress, model and executive assistant – will be wearing a National Costume inspired by the paddle pop skies of Australia when the sun is setting over the ocean (see photos of the same in this entry).

With the tough competition ahead, Monique should really turn on her articulate self to wow the judges and other candidates and be picked as a contender. To date, there has been a dearth of online interviews with her. But I trust that she has the proper communication skills for the mission at hand.

  2. (I got major ‘interference’ just as I was to play the video… I’m not watching it. BUT, I will not be surprised if it turned out she shared the same ND as Sheridan Mortlock. And we know what THAT means.)

    Exact same vibe as R’Bonney. Kung gusto niyo, siya ipalit niyo sa Top3. Basta, ‘aron pa rin ang 2) may basbas ng T! & 3) the ‘weak sash’ come-from-behind to surprise us all.

  3. A costume inspired ‘by the paddle pop (???) skies of Australia when the sun is setting over the ocean’- what a bunch of crap lol and look at the results – a confused concoction of frothy tulle in colours more fitting for a children’s beauty pageant.

    But having said that, she’s pretty and Aussies have always held their own personality-wise so who knows- maybe there’s an advantage of coming into the competition with all your cards close to your chest.

    And this is is notwithstanding a crappy National Costume; sure it helps, but not a lot as most fans think. On that note, what is Celeste’s???
