Alessia Rovegno: Will Peru get its 2nd crown in the 71st Miss Universe?

Peru won its first and only Miss Universe crown 65 years ago courtesy of Gladys Zender. From 1957, the wait must have been so agonizing for the second victory to arrive. And the South American nation is placing all its bets on Miss Universe Peru 2022 Alessia Rovegno – one half of a singing duo called “Alessia y Vambina” (watch their music video below).

For the past weeks and months, Alessia has been one of the favorites by pageant fans to do well in the 71st Miss Universe. She is almost always given a top spot in the pre-arrival picks and the like. Will she live up to expectations?

    but there are others who are potentially nice surprises at MU Finale ( based on their pics and crowning videos ). Delegates from Europe have been sidestepped since 1995.

    • Well, now that we have this, Europe’s last Top 10 placement was in 2019, courtesy of Maeva Coucke… At least France is able to keep up. Or, did I miss anyone from last year? 2020, wala’ng taga-Europe na naka-Top 20 man lang…?

      • last year , there was France and Great Britain …

        in 2017, 2018, 2019 , there were the groupings but when it came to trimming it down to 10 , they almost all get eliminated by the judges ( all female most of the time ; they should stop this all-female judge lineups l and they should have 11 or 13 judges like in the past but hopefully they do not make it all Thai people )

  9. Peru is only 6% white. 88% are; black (3.6), Amerindian (25) and mestizo (60).

    The mestizo population is deceiving. S.American countries like Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Paraguay count Amerindians/indigenous who speak Spanish -only- as mestizos, thus tremendously increasing the “mixed” population.

    Miss Peru is beautiful but I personally see her coming across as “white privileged ”

    • @Really, just like all other former colonies by Western powers, the beauty standard is the European archetype, no matter how small the percentage of “whites” are relative to the vast majority of the population. Though the diversity and inclusivity consciousness being pushed by today’s Millennials and GenZ are slowly chipping away this monolithic colonial beauty concept, change may still take time.

      • Scorg don’t believe what you read from random people. Peru is not 88 percent black. Just a correction Brazil is the blackest state in Southern America at 50+ plus percent identifying as black. ( I excluded carribean countries). Colombia Guyana etc comes next. The typical Peruvian looks like a native American from north Dakota not BLACK.

      • @Gul, no problem. But as I understand @Really’s comment, the 88% he is referring to is composite of 25% AmerIndians, 60% mestizos and 3.5% blacks. The Amerindians and mestizos comprise the typical Peruvian, blacks being a small minority . “Whites” comprise also a small minority at 6% of the population.

    • 😂😂😂😂😂 peru is not 88 percent black. They’re probably just 8 percent. The blackest latin American country is Colombia, Guyana definitely not Peru. Majority of them are mestizos. Where’d you get that info? Lol

        25.0 Amerindian,
        60.0 mestizo.

  11. If winner is destined to be latina this MU2022 , let us cheer for Peru or Chile or Guatemala ( boo Venezuela, Colombia, Puerto Rico , you can only join top 20 ! )

      How do you size up the Europe delegation? There’s the Filipino-fluent ‘Spain’, the black Dominicana (Republica?) ‘Italy’ na sabi niyo has the best walk in this batch, &… Who else must we look out for?

      Taon-taon na lang, we push for a handful of ladies from that continent but they almost always fall short going into the Top 15/20, let alone the Top 10/8. Are we losing radar?

      (Colombia is due for a BIG crown! You want to give them the BEEEEP!…? Process of elimination, they bagged neither International nor Earth, & ayaw, niyo, sila for Universe.)
