   I cannot have both Peru & Chile in my 13-PICK. Only the better of the two.

5. Chile’s Cecilia Bolocco in 1987 was a quintessential “beautifully confident” rep. Her runner-up,very young Miss Italy, was a typical “confidently beautiful” contestant. Still in her teens, Miss Italy then was physically better endowed. But Miss Chile’s obvious competitive edge was her intellectual depth and wit. If Sofia can be another Cecilia this time, the “Force for Good Crown” will easily land on her head.

   • If in 1987 when there was yet no conscious branding effort, the uber articulate “beautifully confident” triumphed over the uber gorgeous “confidently beautiful”, so much more now that there is a distinctive MU beauty paradigm enshrined in a tagline and a crown. it appears now that the title will most likely go to the one who effectively projects insightful ideas into action, who consistently projects a pleasing outward manifestation of inner beauty by way of intelligence and core values. Will the Singapore edition 3 decades ago be an indication of things to come?

   • @scorg, from the moment Cecilia came onstage and got the lead dancer spot, there was no stopping her. And who can forget her interview with Bob and her Christmas TV ad spiel onstage?

6. No doubt that she has that face that will launched a thousand ships, but let us not forget what Miss Anne Jakkaphong Jakrajutatip looking for the next Miss Universe. Having beautiful face is not a guarantee to win. She wants an empowered woman to be the mouthpiece of various causes that is very relevant today. As long that woman has the unique qualities and abilities to lead, regardless she is trans or straight, fat or skinny, tall or short, and married, single mother or uncommitted woman, she will be the next Miss Universe.

   • @Gabriela, you are absolutely correct! The new MU tagline “beautifully confident” focuses more on “confidence”. It looks for a confidence-driven beauty, or outwardly manifested inner beauty. In other words, it is looking for intellect and core values that can effectively and beautifully turn thoughts into action. The importance and urgency of these credentials for a spokesperson can’t be over emphasized enough at this juncture of MUO corporate life when it needs to take off soonest to unprecedented heights.

   • I believe that MU’s new tagline represents a paradigm shift on beauty. The focus is now on confidence, or outwardly manifested inner beauty. In a way, this paradigm shift is attuned to the preferences of the Millenials and GenZ markets who are known to spend their money on companies that reflect their values, and who expect businesses and governments to do their part to build a better future for everyone.
