THE ROAD TO PROGRESS
Beatriz “Zea” Vasquez Awatin, the reigning Miss Progress Philippines, held her “Send Off Party” at Kagandang Flores Camp before departing for Puglia, Italy, on September 7, 2022, for the 8th edition of Miss Progress International (MPI).
The Associazione Culturale in Progress organizes the pageant, which has been recognized and supported by the President of the Italian Republic, the Italian Council of Ministers, the Italian Ministry of Tourism, and the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities.
Miss Progress International’s social values and humanitarian objectives continue to advance through its unconventional approach. The representative from each nation should not only be an example of intelligence and beauty, but also actively contribute to the growth and development of their own communities.
Miss Progress International believes that to make progress, we must strengthen three critical pillars: HUMAN RIGHTS, ENVIRONMENT, and HEALTH. As a result, each candidate must present a viable project. Candidates were asked to write a project based on their assigned social theme or “PROGRESS’ PILLAR,” and this year’s theme for the Philippines is human rights.
Beatriz’s project for human rights theme/pillar is entitled “THE JEEPNEY LIBRARY”; it is a vehicle of PROGRESS. Jeepney Library is an aid to support the lack of access to modern education for the poorest of the poor children of Manila. It is customized with a portable Wi-Fi connection and computers/laptops built in to give less fortunate children the right to gain access to technology and information and make sure that NO ONE IS LEFT BEHIND.
Beatriz and the other over 30 delegates will tour the world’s most beautiful region, Puglia, Italy. They will visit several UNESCO World Heritage sites. On September 17 (9:90PM Italian Time and 3:30 AM Philippines Time), the coronation night will be streamed LIVE on Miss Progress International’s YouTube and Facebook pages, as well as on a European TV station that will be announced shortly.
We can vote for our representative for free every day until September 17th. Don’t miss out and let us all rally behind Zea to bring home the country’s second Miss Progress International crown.

Miss Progress Philippines 2017 Jedaver Grace Pancho Opingo was crowned as Miss Progress International 2017 with her winning theme of Human Right. She was also awarded as Miss Progress Human Rights 2017. In 2015 Miss Opingco was awarded Miss Progress Philippines 2015 but for unknown reasons she failed to attend the pageant abroad.
I’m sure she still has time left to prepare
Just don’t understand the red hair when you have a nose like that
And she doesn’t have the typical big KF smile
I wonder what drives a woman to do pageantry
I mean , how do they know they are pretty enough to join pageantry ?

She has a chance of placing higher in the competetion.
For students of Humanities, it is easy to reconcile Miss Progress International’s social values and humanitarian objectives in a beauty contest modality—especially in a European setting like Italy, the birthplace of the Renaissance movement. Renaissance signaled the rebirth of the Integral Life into the True (expressed in science, nature and logic), the Good (expressed in morals, culture and ethics) , and the Beautiful (expressed in art, aesthetics and self). Miss Progress International believes “that to make progress, we must strengthen three critical pillars: human rights, environment, and health”. I see these pillars as, respectively, the Good, the True and the Beautiful. To me, this is not an “unconventional approach” but a way of weaving together the pieces of our humanity into an integral whole. I hope this pageant can move up to the level of the major players in the industry with the encouragement of the Italian government.
Obviously, this is one pageant that celebrates the holistic beauty of women. Miss Progress International’s focus on the three critical pillars to development seems lie a prism that refracts the white light of our consciousness into the entire spectrum of human experience. Headquartered in Italy, the birthplace of the Renaissance era,
a period of European cultural, artistic, political and economic “rebirth” following the Dark Ages, when some of the greatest thinkers, authors, statesmen, scientists, artists, and global explorers in human history emerged, we can see the deep cultural and historical roots of the pageant. We all know that the “Dark Ages” is the era of war, ignorance, famine and pandemics such as the Black Death. Sustaining the spirit of Renaissance in a pageant’s brand make it very relevant and meaningful.
Debate: Do you think KF is diminishing its brand by associating itself with these minor pageants? I mean I get the intent to give girls a chance to compete but so far, they have failed to clinch any major major crown in the concluded Bbp, MWP and MUP.
Miss Progress? Now it’s mockery.
I can’t…I just can’t take this seriously anymore.
Shaking my head in disbelief.

And yet another “prestigious international pageant”… oh well.
Side question: If the opposite of “pro” is “con”, is the opposite of Progress, Congress? Lol.
World Peace.
Miss Progress International’s social values and humanitarian objectives, and the recognition and support by the President of the Italian Republic, the Italian Council of Ministers, the Italian Ministry of Tourism, and the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, make it a truly brains, beauty and values pageant. Zea Awatin’s credentials make her a worthy representative of the Philippines. However, the assigned social theme or “PROGRESS’ PILLAR” for the Philippines is human rights.
Ze’s project for human rights theme/pillar obviously veered away from the very political issue. “THE JEEPNEY LIBRARY” tackled a safe issue within the human rights domain– the right to access to education as a vehicle of PROGRESS. Well, education is still a basic human right. Tackling the gut issues on the subject– that are concerning to the international community especially the EU– may not be within pageantry’s comfort zone. Best of luck anyway to Zea. She can bring home the honor!
Sayang naman may missing na bato sa crown niya.
haha…nakita mo pa yon beb. 😊😊😊
That can be meaningful… But certainly not ‘sayang’, imHo. 🙂
Imagine? Pati beauty pageant ng gatas, meron! At kasali tayo! Kakaloka.
That’s all.
Her credentials speak of a prospective ambassadress/diplomat of the Philippines in the near future. Good luck Zia.
May exam ‘yan sa PRC, no? Just asking because am curious/not very sure. Huwag po’ng bibigyan ng kulay!
Yup, there is an exam for that which is found at https://dfa.gov.ph/what-is-an-fso-and-fsoe. After her pageant journey , she can consider it in the future basing from her academic credentials in (B.S. and M.A.) International Studies/Relations and her project in Model United Nations (MUN).
