Look: Miss Supranational Philippines 2022 Alison Black stood out in red during the #SupraModelOfTheYear segment of the Miss Supranational 2022 competition. She wore a modern Filipiniana created by Designer Noel Estopito.

I am sure that Vietnam will be in the top 3 on coronation night …

YUNG BEAUTY NIYA AY IMPROVED DOLLY ANN CARVAJAL
Strange that our candidate is receiving this kind of vitriol from trolls. Any objective outsider would identify her as a strong candidate. There is a segment in the Philippine pageant community that has fallen into the temptation of defining what is beautiful based on East Asian and Eurasian standards. Mutya is beautiful and a perfect example of a Filipina who has both Southeast Asian and East Asian features. Most of our Supra Ph delegates in the past have Eurasian or Mestiza features. Now that we sent an incredibly beautiful Filipina candidate who has Austronesian features, a segment of the Philippine pageant community has gone full on troll mode. Have we developed a certain kind of self-hatred as a people that we are unable to identify and appreciate Austronesian beauty? In this regard, Indonesia has shown more maturity in being able to appreciate their Austronesian-looking candidates.
Any intelligent and dignified person or forum would filter out troll behavior. It’s fine if you have a different or fixed preference on what kind of Ph candidate should be sent but to call our BEAUTIFUL, DIGNIFIED, and INTELLIGENT candidate derogatory names is below the belt.
What’s the stand of the blogger? Freedom of speech over intelligent, dignified and proper argumentation?
Sorry not sorry but Alison Black remains and will always be one of our most beautiful and most eloquent delegates ever sent internationally. She may not be your definition of the “utmost best” representative but she is definitely not mediocre by any standard.
Enough of the name calling. Whoever you are, you are a vexation to the community. The Philippines has no use for trolls now and forever.
To the non-trolls in this forum, may we protect our delegates from all sorts of troll behavior. Let us never forget to treat our candidates like as if they are our sisters or daughters. They are ambassadors of the Philippines and what would empower them is sincere encouragement, constructive criticism, and undying support.
@Golden Mean: I absolutely feel the same frustration as yours on the trolls that litter this blog who denigrate our chosen queens whose beauty archetype is not the Caucasian variety. While I pity them for having such an antiquated concept of beauty, I am angered by the name callings and labels. How many times have I gotten a deluge of thumbs down and insults every time I express my preference for Malay beauty archetypes. How many times do I get bashed every time I express the idea that there is no universal monolithic concept of physical beauty as it is cultural, and what is universal are the other beauty dimensions of intellect and core values. I wont be surprised if this comment will suffer the same fate as yours– thumbs downs from trigger-happy trolls whose beauty ideology is still the archaic Western concept embraced by Boomers.
Yes. And let’s be honest, it’s plain and simple racism. Are we just going to allow this kind of culture and behavior to persist? If an African woman is called a derogatory term, people are quick to call out the racist language. But why the silence when it comes to Filipinas being called derogatory names?
Is there no system or protocol by which troll behavior is filtered out? When will leaders of this community take a stand to protect our women?
Enough is enough. If the community will not stand up against this racist behavior, then the Philippine pageant community does not deserve the hardwork, dedication, and blood, sweat and tears poured out by our representatives.
My fearless forecast is that the “anointing” of the Philippines as a “powerhouse” by international organizations will come to an end sooner othan later because of this unacceptable behavior.
Let me remind you that pageants, in the strict and traditional sense, are already being perceived as passé because of the objectification of women. So for fans from a so-called “powerhouse” nation like the Philippines to further demean and destroy women further proves that pageants, though entertaining, have truly become obsolete.
As for me, I take pride in our representatives because pageants are a vehicle to show the best of our country. Let’s face it, it’s impossible for a country to win all the time. Being fixated in winning all the time simply breeds a toxic and unrealistic culture. It’s time to look at pageants as a something more than just a competition or a crown. Pageants are meeting places to show the world that Filipinas are wonderful, beautiful, intelligent members of a global community of empowered women. Yes, to win is terrific but to send women who epitomize the ideals of our country is the true goal of pageantry in the 21st century. If luck favors our representatives, then the crown is theirs to bring home. But we celebrate not just the crown but the quality of women that we send to represent us all.
Let’s crown our representatives with our unceasing support. Racism has no place in Philippine pageantry.
@Golden Mean on “pageants as passé because of the objectification of women”: Yes indeed it is, at least in the First World countries. It is only in Third World countries like the Philippines that it is followed closely. To stay financially afloat, pageants in fact have to reinvent themselves, embrace diversity and inclusiveness, and resort to branding. But most fans in this so-called “pageant powerhouse” nation cannot seem to accept the fact that the world’s concept of beauty has changed, and that pageants are not about pitting one physique against another, but a showcase of the intellect and core values of beautiful women from all nations. Some fans have not shaken off the centuries-old gladiator mentality that pits one person against another that debases women into commodities. Those who do not conform to their warped idea of beauty are mercilessly called by derogatory names and labels. Those that do not win, after spending a fortune by joining, are called derisively as “clappers”. The real spirit behind the “celebration of beauty” is lost completely.
@Golden Mean on “Are we just going to allow this kind of culture and behavior to persist?” and “When will leaders of this community take a stand to protect our women?”:
Unfortunately, we a forlorn voice in the wilderness. Look at how in less than 6 overnight hours in Manila, you got 10 thumbs down against 6. I will not be surprised of an avalanche of thumbs downs sooner. No less than the head of Miss Globe commented two years ago that we should refrain from bashing our own candidates who do not conform to our beauty standards, as it affects their performance in the international stage. I think this behaviour of pageant fans is due to the Filipinos’ love to self-flaggelate. Is this masochism a manifestation of colonial mentality that idealizes only Caucasian features as “goddess”?
It is a sad commentary of this blog, which claim to have intellectual readership, to be a habitat for unthinking trolls and other pageant fanatics whose zeal debases, instead of champions, our beautiful women.
Hala ka. Allison BLACK nga. Half British sya hoy. Maybe her mom and dad’s combination is not that great. 🙄

Why is the tarsier being mentioned here sporadically? Is it because the designer Noel Estopito is from Bohol?
Hi, Cool Brew! I hope it has nothing to do with the fact that Allison, Estopito’s ward, has Austronesian features. Combined with the derogatory description “kabayotic”, it becomes a racist slur.
Kabayotic Tarsier. Worst Felepen Candidate of all time.
Mas pangit ka naman ano! Buteteng baklang Pupumadrid 😆🤣
Gusto kasi nila yong magaling sumagot sa Q&A debah? Tsaka yong may panghatak sa fans like Gwendolyne Fourniol & Wilbert Tolentino kay Budol. History is like Chismis.
Yvethe Santiago was one of our best representatives in this pageant. Just that she was sent in the year where B2B is not possible. If she was sent to International instead, may chance of placement.
Ang venue. Parang disco/club in the 80s complete with the colorful neon lights.
Kulang na lang Bananarama, Spandau Ballet, etc music in the background 😅
Ms. Philippines should just enjoy her ”vacation” there, malabong manalo siya.
Not hating, just stating ✌️
That’s interesting. Hasn’t LED (solid state technology) made traditional neon lights obsolete? Kasi, neon gas is quite scarce & to collect & refine/process it into lighting applications is old-school…
Not hating, too, po. Just sharing, kasi I love how this blog has brought together an entire universe of knowledge, ideas, & expertise!
(… Excluding myself. I’m the one just in awe of everyone here. It’s difficult to not take a gander.)
I THOUGHT IT IS A STRONG BATCH, WEAK PALA.
KONTI LANG ANG STUNNERS
We should stop sending bi-racia candidates to this pageant.
Let’s go back to the Mutya Datuls please.
Either Felizarta or Gigante should have been sent instead of Black.
Let’s wait ’til the Finale before we make that judgment call. Ms. Black might stun~surprise.
Pero lung sa bagay, our better placements were courtesy of ‘pure’ ones – Datul, Huelar, & Pajares.
2012 -Moll, 2013 – Datul, 2014 – Santiago (but hard to get a back-to-back), 2015 – ?, 2016 – Eden, 2017 – Thomas, 2018 – Huelar, 2019 – Saeed, & 2020~2021 – Pajares.
(Though Chanel got Congeniality & was considered lucky charm to room mate Jenny Kim.)
I’m sorry. I can’t recall who our 2015 rep was, po. 😦
Rogelie Catacutan
Miss Supra is pretty much like Miss World for us in the sense na parehong first winners natin ay magaganda talaga na habang wala tayong candidate na ka level ng beauty nila Megan at Mutya hindi tayo mananalo.
International pageants are quite strict with the background records of candidates. Even our national pageants check on criminal records. 🕊
Alison had a terrible choice of gown , hairstyle, and make up .
I do not agree So much with the judges’ choices.
These are the candidates who, for me, slayed the runway:
South Africa, Brazil, Panama, Venezuela, and Thailand.
Keep your tatsier in your you know where…your (starts with the letter a.)
You can’t even spell right. It’s TARSIER. You d😬mb primate.
Guys, ‘eto ba’ng Supra Model of the Year, the same as last year’s Festival of Beauty na outdoors sila nag-runway? ‘Alala niyo ‘yun? Ano nga ba’ng kulay ng gown ni Sgt. Pajares?
I was unable to watch/see the Americas group. Our fur babies went on a rampage. ‘Pag balik ko, tapos na. 😦
If I will be strict, Singapore wins this without a doubt. Everyone else pales in comparison. Only she gave M-O-D-E-L in the truest sense.
This was helpful as it revealed aspects of the candidates unseen in earlier outings. I have a much clearer picture now. Let’s just say ‘yun’g mga inakala ko’ng prospective, ‘di pala & a few early favorites aren’t infallible/bullet-proof. But it also confirmed a few of my picks. Cool.
Is Belgium (pure) Pinay? If halfies like Amelinckx, Theunis, or Baeyens were appointed, OK lang? Naalala ko tuloy si Danielle Dolk (a former Binibini) na in-appoint as ‘Netherlands’, paving the way for Roberta Tamondong to compete as ‘Philippines’ at Eco Teen International. Parang ganu’n.
I believe Germany is half-Pinay
Miss Germany Supranational 2022 Sabrina Merlina Binder, a beautiful Filipino-German from Munich. She competed in Mutya ng Pilipinas 2018 ended up Top 25 Finalist. Miss Germany Supranational National Director is also a Filipino.
Seems the Fil-Germans are making a comeback. After Pia, ngayon na lang ulit, ‘ata.
Sabrina Merlina Binder

Mutya will be interesting. As you’ve just shared, they’re the only Nationals with a ‘Fil-Comm’ sash!
Yung make up nya bakit hindi sya naturuan na bigyang diin sa kanyang mata kasi nagmumukha syang tatsier/
