PRESS RELEASE
Miss World 2021 temporarily postpones global broadcast finale in Puerto Rico due to health and safety interest of contestants, staff, crew and general public
The finale will be rescheduled at Puerto Rico Coliseum Jose Miguel Agrelot within the next 90 days
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – After meeting with the virologists and medical experts hired to oversee the Miss World 2021 event and discussing with the Puerto Rico Health Department, the decision has been made by the organizers of the event to postpone the globally broadcast finale at the Puerto Rico Coliseum Jose Miguel Agrelot to be held within the next 90 days.
As of yesterday, additional safety measures were implemented in the best interest of the contestants, production team and spectators, understanding the event increased risks on the stage and in the dressing room. However, after additional positive cases were confirmed this morning after consulting with health officials and experts, the postponement decision was made.
The next step according to the medical experts is immediate quarantine, pending observation and further testing according to best practices in situations like this.
Once and only when contestants and staff are cleared by health officials and advisors, will contestants and related staff return to their home countries.
“We are very much looking forward to the return of our contestants, (who we have grown to know and love), to compete for the Miss World crown” said Julia Morley, CEO of Miss World Ltd. Puerto Rico offers a safe environment and a spectacular backdrop for filming the Miss World Festival!”

It only means the winner is one of those who got infected.
Wishing all the women and the staff who tested positive for covid19, a speedy recovery.
It could also be because the hosts (update by Miss Singapore) and Julia Morley (from the statement of Stephane del Valle saying get well soon to Julia) were infected.
I can say that among the 5 front runners below, one will be wearing the blue crown so you are probably correct. Ivory Coast is really a goddess.

It’s an opportunity for Miss World to regroup and study recommendations from fans as to how it could improve the pageant in ways which will still differentiate it from Miss Universe. 👑🕊💐
I think as it is now, MW is clearly differentiated with MU. This fiasco however seems to expose the weak events management capability of MW, a business competency extremely important in precarious times like this. Since it is corporate culture that shapes this competency, it is an internal issue that fans should not dip their sticky fingers on. I am positive that this nightmare will compel MW to acknowledge that sharpening its internal business processes is an absolute necessity.
Definitely agreeing with you on this matter scorg.. They should tweak this part in order to realign to the current state that we have right now. I do still believe that they will push through in this difficult times and this will be a sterling opportunity to test their mettle in terms of being resilient and adaptable in a tough situation.

The penultimate-day postponement of the crowning event of both MWP and its global counterart MW could have been avoided had there been contingency plans in place and the agility to change course immediately. MWP’s waterloo is the unexpected implementation of Enhanced Community Quarantine in Metro Manila outlawing the staging of a large spectator event. MW’s drubbing is the sudden outbreak of Covid 19 cases among the contestants, pushing the organization to a panic mode to prevent further spread. This is a precarious period in human history that needs both a very strict observance of health and safety protocols, and a clearly mapped out no-stones-unturned contingency plan in case of an unforeseen scenario. While it may be convenient to explain away the postponement as the ultimate sacrifice to contain a deadly virus from further wrecking havoc on everyone, it maybe difficult to erase nagging thoughts from global fans why no immediate alternative action is unfurled. While mounting a spectator event in the midst of a pandemic takes utmost courage, which global fans truly appreciate, still the saying “prudence is the better part of valor” should have been the supreme virtue. As the entire pageantry community commiserates with MW’s plight, it should learn the lesson that contingency plans and the agility to change course are integral to prudence in mounting spectator events.
So bakit anti-Cat ka Madam?
What I enjoy reading about comments in this blog is not only what is being said, but how the thoughts are being expressed.
Some comments are non-sensical, some are funny, others are very funny, still others are pa-intellectual. Halo-halo talaga. But you Scorg, you have a very elegant way of expressing yourself. I may not agree with some arguments you are making, but you are consistently articulate and coherent with your thoughts.
World Peace.
@Thomas, same here. I may not agree to some of your comments but you have a clever way of putting your thoughts– even the insightful analysis– in a funny way. You provide a comic relief to sometimes tense atmosphere here.
Miss Earth vindicated. Hugs and prayers to MW!
Question po not related to MW.
The lackadaisical type of leadership Miss World Organization has proves that it is below par from MU. It’s team up with Puerto Rico, a country which, like the Philippines, is poor in handling pandemic protocols, to mount its pageantry makes it more worse such that the anticipated infection among the candidates and staff is expected.
The supervening event that is Covid-19 is inevitable though foreseen. Thus, the MWO and the country host should have taken extra-precautionary measures in order to avoid the infection. Strictest observance of protocol should have been set.
Anyway, per my observation, MWO has since started to polarize as soon as the Miss Universe pageant was concluded. Pageant enthusiasts deem it okay to close the pageant season for 2012.
I am excited actually for the next edition of MUP. Will it happen in May? It shall, so that the MUP Team and the MUP winner will have more time to prepare then.
That’s all.
@ Ana Winter-Lund “Will it happen in May? It shall,…”. Your quote. You are with MUPO, no?
🙂
May we kindly request for the following to be arranged AP’s for, po?
1. Katrina Llegado
2. Graciella Lehmann
3. Gila Salvador
4. Lovely Mercado
5. Jasmine Omay
I have a few more names stewing (in mind), pero kahit ‘yan lang muna for now.
(Not to mention either Ybonne Ortega or Joanna Rabe, whoever wishes to ‘finish their business’.)
For MWP, I wish for Jannarie Zarzoso, the inaugural Aliwan Fiesta Digital Queen. A BEAUTY!
@Flor Tula, no I am not in any way related to MUPO. I have my own consultancy firm, and commenting about pageantry thru this platform is my favorite pastime.
That’s all.
@Ana Winter-Lund…gosh… 2012 Pageant season has long been closed… its now 2021… soon 2022! where have you been
If you have logic, you wouldn’t make patol to the typo error. And what about your so-many-dots dear, what are those for?
My typo error of 2021 is acceptable than your write up. That needs a lot of work.
That’s all.
@Ana Winter-Lund… not acceptable typo error for an “intellectually elite” like you claim to be. Dot dots dots are my own personal style of writing. Why should you comment about that?
Your writing style is, unfortunately, poor.
That’s all.

Indonesia, maybe. India, strong possibility. Cote d’Ivoire, apparently. Ayaw ituloy kasi mawawalan ng crowning moment?
You are a keen observer but then based on the official statement by MWO they will still have a live event hence a crowning moment is inevitable, all the delegates who tested positive including the frontrunners you mentioned just needs to recover and wait for the next announcement within the next 90 days .
Sometimes it takes a smart people to solve the problem right away🤫😊
Ang Dami alalay, go back after 90 days lang Ang naisip😱 Yung may emplyado ka pero Di maasahan Ang utak😆 hihihihi
On the positive side, we have 3 months to rally support for Tracy. All of his interviews are now going viral due to the fact that she is very inspiring whenever she opens her mouth… I am surprised that she only has 100K followers on IG… She just like Pia, Catriona, Megan, Kylie, Angelia, Cindy, etc. has proven that she is indeed very much deserving of our support. She highly exceeded all my expectations of her and now we should all unite to help her fulfill her dream… Last time na walang away when it comes to a candidate was Megan Young.. I never expected that it would happen again with Tracy Maureen Perez.
Under unusual circumstances, a realistic pageant org would have adjusted the competition to control Covid spread. Maybe 2 weeks would be more than enough time to hold only significant activities which are readjusted to lessen physical contact. This may be the pageant norm for at least 4 years. 💐👑🕊️
Mawawala ba ang Covid after 90 days?
Kawawang Tracy, mag christmas at new year sa quarantine facility.
The struggle is real!
#AllTeaAllShade
What a stupid decision from the organization. Let them go back home and go back again there? Anu yun pinupulot yung Pera.
Makes me think the prospect winner unfortunately got infected.
India, Venezuela & Ivory Coast?
Sounds like stars are aligning for TRACY
@ThisIsMe, we have the same thinking hehehe… they do not want to crown anybody except the chosen one who got infected with the virus… sino kaya yon?
Cote D Ivoire?
I just hope they will just announce the top 30, then let the others return to their respective countries.
The top 30 will then be quarantined for 14 days. Then they can schedule the coronation afterward.
The organization did not prepare for this it looks and it’s possible they didn’t consider this could happen.
They could have quarantined all the delegates the moment one of them turned or suspected to be covid positive but instead they held a charity gala. Kinalat pa.
It would have been nice if they have plans A to Z haha so they can proceed with the pageant. I feel for the delegates, they have already exerted much effort and spent resources only to be asked to go home. There has to be a safe way to do the pageant despite the situation.
nga nga
They should just announce the winner and runners-up.
That is actually the most practical way to end it.
I guess Julia’s bet is one of the infected candidates. And maybe also the runners up, so she has no choice but to postpone.
I agree that Safety should be the first and foremost consideration. So good call to not hold the finals live. Baka maging super spreader event pa yan. Tha In fact if only one girl dies (wag naman sana) because of this, that would be the worst nightmare. There will be a Missed World.
However :
1) Grabe. Bitin. Lol.)
While we are imagining the hassle this has caused us (the viewers), this development must be highly frustrating for the 100 + girls and their respective organization. Less we forget the sponsors, the production team, the down payment made, other workers to make this even successful. Calling for a postponement must be costing millions.
2). I feel bad for Puerto Rico. The telecast is their coming out party. Showing the best of PR’s culture and its readiness to host such a big event. Oh well.
3) I wholeheartedly agree with Sleuth (see his comment below). BY THIS TIME when all the preliminary events have already been done and recorded (ex. Dances of the World), selection of the eventual winners can be done virtually. Hybrid. They can still showcase the beauty of PR.
4) I sense a certain arrogance from MW and Puerto Rico to have the gall to hold the event for almost one month. Medyo mayabang din. The risk of infection increases each day. Now I understand the logic of relatively short MU pageant. Ms. Earth and Ms. International were ultra careful. Ms. World is careless. The happy compromise was MU. ( I will not even mention “that other third-rate, cheap, cooking show pageant” based in Thailand. Lol).
5) The audacity of MW to promise that the finals will still be held live in Puerto Rico within the next 90 days. As Ate Vi would say, “with this virus, you can never can tell”. I am also reminded by this saying “If you want God to laugh, tell Him your plans”.
Lastly, I feel bad for Paul. Paul-ing, Paul-ing fast again. Why does he always take a Paul, when he Pauls in love —- with Tracy?
Having said that, live, virtual, hybrid, Tracy will place well.
World Peace,
‘Puson’ in English (anatomic/medical term) is “hypogastrium” or suprapubic area…. so meron ding puson ang lalaki
Yung adrenalin ng mga Top 30 to fight till the end eh biglang bumaba at nawala. Even the fans are so disappointed.
Paul is undercover Julia Morley drumming up the support for the supposed next MW, Tracy Maureen! Lol
If the Biblical Saul had his conversion into Paul in Damascus. Tracy’s Apostle Paul may yet have his mutation into ____ here and now. He is free to choose his new name but Thomas, Andrew and John are already taken.
The announcement comes in PANTONE’s ‘very peri’, the MW logo traced in silver coins. An ode to the Lunar Year of the Metal Tiger & a (possible) call for additional?new sponsors & advertisers. 🙂
Na-MECQ din sila. Lolz. Pero sad. 😦
ME din naman, inabot ng ~1 month, live or virtual.
3 months/90 days. 16-17 March 2022.
Around January, no? Hhmm… Paano na kaya ‘yan? ALL THE VERY BEST.
Hi Flor Tula, I’m beginning to suspect that you’re my boss. You really sound like him. 🙂
Erratum additional/new. Not ‘?’.
(Cont.)
Good Sun AM, Uncle.
As per @ River Robles (above), Tracy will be in NY until January, so du’n na siya sasalubong ng Bagong Taon. Why not do a PN’s episode at 1800H (Manila) para 0600H at her end? 🙂
Dalawang linggo nang delayed. First, due to MU. Now, your (finally!) first live out-of-town pageant judging stint in a while. Choose the utter best Miss & Mister, ta’s i-guest mo rin eventually, po.
Are you already there? Or, ngayong umaga lang kayo luluwas? So, balikan kayo. Or, bukas uwi?
one word. kalokah!! haha
baka ung preselected winner naka quarantine pa. lamnathis.
hahaha. strange that is it being withheld. di ba?
Good decision! Of course safety of all candidates and the staff is still the most important.
Very embarrassing. Safety protocols were not followed and now they could not contain the escalating situation.
I agree with some comments here to conclude the pageant with a virtual crowning ceremony since they had already finished most of the pre-pageant activities and contests.
And what kind of pageant should take a month to finish? Kind of counterintuitive given the still raging pandemic.
This reflects poor judgment on the part of Julia Morley and her team.
Very disappointing and very sad for all the delegates.
Awwwww! Ayan postpone ang Mess World! Ano ang official statement mo Paul? Paano na si Tracy.
A sense of deja vu. The most dreaded scenario for any beauty pageant– postponement on the penultimate day– is here once more for Filipino pageant fans. It happened with MWP; it’s happening now with MW! The culprit is the same deadly pandemic.
While postponement could be the best solution at hand, as the health and safety of everyone absolutely cannot be compromised, this is going to be a huge PR challenge for MW in the days ahead. How it will navigate through the negative press worldwide such postponement can bring is indeed a major concern. I commiserate with MWO.
With this development, and in the light of a more contagious Omicron variant stalking the world, I just wonder what MI is thinking now. Still “No to virtual pageant”? If it is, does it mean another postponement? Or a valiant initiative to benchmark, and surpass, how the Olympics did it unscathed this year?
This does not make sense to me.
This is just a waste of time and money.
It’s better to cancel this year’s edition kung gnyan din lang.
they have pretaped the dances of the world, they have done the prelims: talent, sports, BWAP, top model. Since we all know mama julia is the one who chooses the winner, then they should have done a hybrid of virtual and live pageant
I think that they should have held virtual pageant nlang kasi 1 day left nalang. But it could have been that be ause they can no longer afford thr cost of allowing alot of their staff to stay under quarantine, mucb more to the contestants who will be subject also to quarantine period, they may have to make hard decision to cancel it. We also do not know the number of confirmed cases atm.
devastating ! I am so glad MU is done … Tracy , do not succumb to the negative emotions and thoughts , stay positive ! … it is an extremely extraordinary times we are all experiencing
Isang buwan ba naman na contest.
Tapos extended pa ulit?!
So sad that this happens. This may serve as a learning experience for the organization that the duration of the next edition of MW maybe shortened especially that pandemic is not yet over.
So panu un? Pauuwiin muna then balik ng 90 days?
It looks like it. As if the pandemic will be gone after 3 mos.
