  1. Omicron’s transmissibility is still unknown. The severity of the disease when one gets infected with this variant is likewise unknown. We should not let our guards down.

    • @ Serge Isn’t it FAST ENOUGH that WITHIN A MONTH it got from Africa, to Europe & the Far East? Hopefully, the Americas can be isolated from both sides, Pacific & Atlantic.

Though experts say the logical trend in virus mutation is to become more transmissible BUT LESS DEADLY.

It’s inevitable this will join the cold, the flu, & TB (among others) as a general~background germ. We have vaccines, quarantine & tracking protocols, & good old hygiene in our arsenal but to complete this what we require soon is CURE so that health services will never again be swamped.

      • @flor. It is not yet known if the current available vaccines work against this new variant.
This is what I have to say:
covid easily infects unvaccinated individual where it rapidly reproduces/multiplies inside the body. It is during the process of in vivo reproduction where mutation takes place. Vaccination is very important in so many ways:
        1. Prevents covid transmission in some degree
        2. Decreases the chances of getting severe covid/hospitalization
        3. Achieves herd immunity
        4. Decreases the virulence of virus
        5. Somehow Prevents covid mutation

  2. According to THE JERUSALEM POST: (Published Nov 28)

“Israel will host the Miss Universe beauty pageant in the Red Sea resort of Eilat on December 12 despite imposing travel restrictions to try to stave off the Omicron coronavirus variant, Tourism Minister Yoel Razvozov said on Sunday.

On Saturday Israel announced that it was banning foreigners from entering the country, but Razvozov on Sunday told reporters that participants in the Miss Universe pageant would be granted waivers while possibly undergoing PCR testing every 48 hours and other precautionary measures.

“This is an event that will be broadcast in 174 countries, a very important event, an event that Eilat, too, is very much in need of,” he said before Sunday’s weekly cabinet meeting.”

  3. BUTI NA LANG LAST MINUTE, I DECIDED TO WITHDRAW MY FLIGHT BOOKING TO ISRAEL TO WATCH MISS UNIVERSE KASI DI KO RIN NAMAN FEEL OUR CANDIDATE.
GOODLUCK NA LANG SA MISS UNIVERSE ORG. MAKAPASOK MAN SILA FOR SURE THERE WILL BE A LOT OF CHANGES IN TERMS OF QUARANTINE.

    • @ PAQUITA X You wouldn’t be either Louie Heredia or Delfin Lara, would you po? 🙂

      • AYYYY @FLOR TULA NO LOL !!! ISRAEL IS VERY CLOSE WHERE I AM BASED AND THE FARE IS KINDA CHEAP

  4. Miss USA finals are on Nov. 29. Looks like USA may not be in the pageant if the travel ban starts 12 am Nov 28 Israel time?

  5. I think most of them will be traveling via Turkish Airlines! I saw Miss Venezuela checking in using the same airlines! Antagal pa naman ng layover diyan! Most likely flight ni Bea is Manila-Istanbul-Tel Aviv!

Maganda talaga ginagawa ng mga Thai na one week before the prescribed arrival date eh nandun na sila para less hassle! Unfortunately, may issue si Miss Thailand sa gobierno nila for inappropriate use of the flag!

Less hassle, less casualty! I think the result would have been the same if it was live! Now, they can move on with their advocacy! Pero knowing Miss Earth, first 6 months ng reign focus on environmental activities plus print ad campaign and the last 6 months madalas attendance for coronation night in different countries!

  6. Just when you thought things were getting back to normal. This 14-day travel ban will really throw a monkey wrench into Miss Universe. Not sure how MUO will roll this one out.

    • @ THROWBAKLA ????

‘What do you mean….First, you want to go left. Then, you turn right. We argue all day. Make love all night…’.

(A Justin Bieber single from 2015. It presaged Pia’s win at MU, in a Top Picks video back then.)

  7. Bad vibes talaga magmula na hindi na hawak ang MU sa BPCI. Dapat pa exorcise mga demons diyan. Malas na sunod sunod na. I hope coincidence lang not fate or consequence.

  8. I hope there is some kind of exception for MU delegates … however, I am holding out chances for Miss South Africa and Miss Namibia… I am very concerned about Miss UAE and Miss Morocco …

If there is no announcement from MU or from Israeli organizers of the MU pageant, then we can assume that the show will go on … I am fully confident that they have prepared for this possibility , way back in the summer , a Plan B … we can count on the partnership of MU org and Israeli govt

      • Is it official ? their name is still in the MU website … I can’t believe that after all the fanfare a couple of months ago and all the contestants who have been introduced to the public , all will amount to nothing

    • @ jaretwrightlover Well, there’s their Plan B – PAGEANT COULD BE TRANSFERRED TO A STATE-RUN QUARANTINE HOTEL, aka/ergo NO LONGER IN EILAT. Which I imagine will facilitate an easier monitoring~control of the situation, at the very least.

I wanted to put this in the earlier post concerning ticket prices. Apparently, even by Israeli standards the show is prohibitively expensive to watch. So, yeah. 😦

(I wonder if there’s more to this than meets the eye… Hhhmmm.)

    • @ jaretwrightlover That their slot is reserved on the MU site poll page means kahit paano may naibayad nang kahit kaunti for the franchise… It also MAY mean, PRECISELY, that their return is anticipated/expected by MUO… 2022?

This now appears to be playing out much like the BBP 2020~2021 protracted ‘waiting game’. And only the most patient & financially-stable contestants will make it to the end.

(MUUAEO did not clarify/specify that ‘time constraint’ which made it impossible for them to have a Finale. But I have an idea what it might be. But to be clear on my opinion, I do not believe it has anything to do with the candidates per se.)

  9. Very bad news for the foreigners (venue spectators) who already bought pricey tickets for event’s location and airfare plus the cost of hotel accom. For some avid fans, they don’t care to shell out money as long as they satiate their cravings to watch it live right in front on their very eyes. But too bad, COVID-19 intervened.

  10. I hope MUO has contingency plans in place for eventualities like this. I hope they have taken cues from the successful “duck-duck-go” crowning events held by MUP, MSA and MUT in their respective Covid-stalked countries.

    • @ scorg Yes, po. They most certainly did (learn a thing or two from their franchisees). 🙂

(This is when the mentor realizes the student has exceeded her/him. And that one of the greatest rewards in teaching is to chance upon a brilliant yet level-headed student!)

      • @Flor, you’re absolutely correct. Franchisors also learn from their franchisees (but the former do not admit it). There are a number of things MUO can benchmark from MUP, MSA and MUT. I hope some of the learnings can readily be applied in crisis management situations like this.

  11. Here we go again. Other countries are already doing preventive measures about the new variant and yet here our government is busy campaining. Hays..sana sa upcoming election iboto ng mga Pilipino ang tamang mga tao, yung walang record ng pagnanakaw, pagsisinungaling at panglalapastangan sa mahal nating Pilipinas. Sana magising na ang mga Pilipino!
