Recently, the pageant rumour mill started to go into (silent) overdrive with talks about the country’s representative to Miss Grand International 2021 heading to a different direction.
You see, most everyone is already expecting that Bb. Pilipinas Grand International 2019 Aya Abesamis will carry the Philippine colors in Thailand next month. Preparations of her team have been steady despite of no confirmations being given, even as early as the time of The Miss Globe last November, 2020 when BPCI opted out of sending any of its titleholder.
This time, little birds are chirping that – because of age – Aya is no longer qualified to participate in Miss Grand International. She is 28 turning 29 this year. As a result, the talks are saying that Samantha Bernardo (who was Bb. Pilipinas 2019 runner-up) will be our representative instead.
If that is confirmed true anytime soon, then Samantha will need to resign as Binibini 13 of the current edition before she can officially become Miss Grand Philippines.
Let us see how these rumors will compare to any kind of announcements between this week and next.
All I can say is that Aya will be gutted – devastated even – with such developments if confirmed.
