Behold your #Binibini20 Thea Cenarosa of Pototan, Iloilo in her Bb. Pilipinas National Costume by Jun-g Bayona Candelario (with backpiece by Brent Naranja):
Amakan
(Notes from the designers)
The gown is a culture-oriented inspired piece from a fused artistry of “amakan” – a Hiligaynon word which is used to dry rice in the rural area of Pototan at the same time, honoring the annual Festival of Lights or popularly known as Iwag Festival.
Pototan is considered as the rice granary of Panay. The rice cut precious stones symbolize the abundance of rice in the municipality. The fabric was cut into pieces and weaved, to create an “amakan.”
Apart from being the rice granary of the region, Iloilo is also known as the Christmas Capital of the Visayas, with its lovely Christmas lights that lit up the entire city court each December. The entire community gathers to experience and appreciate the celebration. Prosperity and festivity, Pototan, Iloilo.

Wow sooo artistic
Beautiful costume.
Isn’t she the rumored org’s fave?
Ganda paramg glow in the dark
What a lovely Natcos.
OK!!! THIS, I LIKE A LOT. 🙂
Even sans that obviously retrofit “palay-peacock” crest and despite my dislike for fishtail hems, this works. My dear sweet Cenarosa did not fail to deliver. Guys, she’s one of the tallest Bb’s of this batch.
That woven finish is MAGNIFIQUE. And the ribbon is spot-on.
Since Iloilo claims the title of Visayas’ Yuletide Hub, I will imagine the City of Love will emulate the City of Lights – Paris – by lighting up on the night of the Boreal Winter Solstice, 21 December. Culturally, the longest night of the year is when light festivals of all sorts are done to dispel darkness…
So far, I am loving this and Basiano’s “calesa”. A great way to usher in the Thanksgiving fervor.
Wow gorgeous! This is a masterpiece…
I love that the designer used a shiny fabric for the woven part… i like the rice grain motif at the back.. well done… and doesn’t look cheap…
I love the shape & symetry of the headress… I love the layering of the rays and the background…
I love the intentional unfinished woven edges including the one on the neckline… very interesting….
The explanation is very evident on the costume… meaning the idea was well executed…. Just the terny alone without the accessories still looks beautiful.
If I have to edit anything here…. I would have woven alternately the current shiny fabric and a shimering fabric of the same color for the whole ensemble…. As for the rice bundle she’s holding, i’ll arrange it to look more of a wedding bouquet than a broom using the same materials…
Over-all… I’m giving this a 9.5 stars!
