After the online edition of Miss Philippines Earth 2020, the virtual version of its international counterpart can never be far behind. And so, for the 20th Edition of Miss Earth, it will go beyond a territory no other recognized worldwide beauty competition has ever traipsed before.
Miss Earth 2020 will go online from start to finish – all in a period that will run for two months – with the finals set for November 8.

Miss Earth to go virtual in November
By: Armin P. Adina Philippine Daily Inquirer / 04:20 AM July 11, 2020
After successfully mounting the Miss Philippines Earth online recently, organizer Carousel Productions is considering taking the same route for its international Miss Earth contest.“I don’t think flights will be available by November, we will not be able to go around,” Carousel executive vice president Lorraine Schuck told Lifestyle.
“I also do not want to take the chance to expose the girls to the risk of infection. I find it a little insensitive having the international delegates come here. I don’t want to put them in trouble, or get sick because I got them all together,” she added.
Carousel Productions has been staging Miss Earth and Miss Philippines Earth since 2001. The beauty contests aim to raise environmental awareness.
Philippine beauty contests have taken a huge hit from the enhanced community quarantine. Binibining Pilipinas postponed its 2020 edition, while Miss Universe Philippines moved its finals from May to later this year.
Even international competitions have announced cancellations. The Japan-based Miss International has moved its 60th edition to next year, while the Philippine-based Miss Asia Pacific International said it was “indefinitely” postponing its 2020 edition.
But Schuck said Miss Earth was sticking to its guns since “this is our 20th edition, I really do not want to skip a year.”
Her team had tested the waters, and found a way to adapt to the “new normal” by holding Miss Philippines Earth online.
The delegates to the national competition had already been selected before quarantine measures were implemented in March, and traditional live coronation program had been set in May.
But a week into the quarantine in Metro Manila, Schuck said she proposed to her team to mount the contest and coronation online…
Doable with technology
“We did not want to stop doing it this year,” she explained. “We believe that with technology, it is doable. So we decided to go through with it.”
All preliminary activities were conducted using the video conferencing platform Zoom, and were shown real-time on the contest’s official Facebook page.
For the final coronation program, telecast on GMA 7 on July 5, the delegates paraded one-by-one through individually shot videos in the different segments of the competition.
Even the crucial question-and-answer round was conducted virtually.Belgian-Filipino Roxanne Allison Baeyens from Baguio City bested 32 other aspirants for the crown.
But Miss Earth may be a tougher nut to crack, what with some 90 delegates spread across different time zones.
Schuck said her team is planning a two-month contest season, which will start in the first week of September. Preliminary activities will be held separately in four groups according to time zones.
“We have tentatively scheduled the coronation on Nov. 8,” she said.
So far, four Filipinos have been proclaimed Miss Earth—Karla Henry (2008), Jamie Herrell (2014), Angelia Ong (2015) and Karen Ibasco (2017).

Lumabas na muli si Sandra Seifert and proud of her son. May kinalaman ba ito sa 20th year celebration ng Miss Earth. By the way, sino ba talaga ang ama ng kanyang anak? Hindi naman kamukha ni Cesar Montano. Sino sa inyo ang may ‘insider’s’ info, please share. Thanks. He, he, he…
Carousel Productions can be credited for traiblazing the unchartered waters of virtual pageantry! We just hope it can combine technology and creativity to make the ME online staging exciting and engaging to its worldwide audience. The successful mounting of the first virtual home-quarantine-compliant national pageant put Carousel Productions above everyone else in the global pageantry industry that adopted a wait-and-see stance, indefinite postponements and outright cancellations. Such a defeatist attitude does not augur well for the development of the industry. Only innovative and agile organizations can thrive in sudden business disruptions wrought by this pandemic. I only hope ME responds more creatively to the urgent need of planet earth by elevating its advocacy one notch higher from purely “environmental awareness” to that of “environmental action”.
Filipinos are known for their resiliency. Lorraine Shuck and company were able to show this wonderful trait by staging the MPE 2020 virtually. There is no stopping them from showing this trait to the world by planning to stage a virtual international beauty pageant. This move by a Philippine-based pageant organization is worthy to be lauded and which I can be proud of being a Filipino myself. It is somehow true to its advocacy which is nature preservation because carbon emission will be minimized since candidates do not have to travel to the Philippines from their country of origin.
@ serge Get ready for at least six (6) rounds of fashion show Preliminaries, then.
NatCos, Swim, CoVid Craze (MVE will be a banh in PPE), Resort, Casual, & Formal.

Filipinos are known for their resiliency. As Filipinos, Lorraine Shuck and company were able to show to the nation this admirable trait by staging national online pageant during the pandemic. It seems there is no stopping them from showing to the world the Filipino resiliency by staging an on online Miss Earth pageant. Truly a remarkable Philippine-based pageant organization worthy of admiration and which I am proud of being a Filipino myself. By doing an online pageant, Miss Earth Org is somehow loyal to its advocacy which is nature preservation because there would be less carbon emission since candidates do not have to travel from their respective countries.
Mr. Tinio, TAYO (the tele-communications status quo/establishment of Las Islas Filipinas) po ba ang mag-tra-transmit ng (pageant) feed sa cyber-kalawakan, po?
‘Di ba nga ours is probably THE WORST Internet in Asia-Pacific Basin? Pa’no na? ‘Coz let’s admit… baka practically all-Pinoy (lang) ang manood ne’to, po. Hector Cemeno of Venezuela had already said he doesn’t really like ME, anyway.
“INDEFINITE” din ang Mutya/MAPI? Didn’t Mr. Fred Yuson say they would “adapt-adopt”? 😦
Hector Cemeno is IRRELEVANT in the pageant world. Paid paid paid promotions.
And u r ?
It will be a boring pageant . … if the lifeless MPE 2020 is to be the gauge
I don’t care if Philippines wins ME every yr as long as she is deserving
This yr’s MPE winner , however, is not going to win . It will be impossible to justify her win knowing that other countries are likely to field much more competitive girls .
GAGAH! KUNG TAUN-TAON MISS PHILIPPINES NA LANG MANANALO, E DAPAT PALITAN NA NILA ANG TITLE – Miss Earth ALL OURS – PHILIPPINES. O HUWAG NG MAGPA-CONTEST KAY WALAY PULOS. BOGONG DAKU! Scorg itong Best Friend mo from UP Manila PARANG may… Ha, ha, ha…
@Paul: if the contest is Miss Earthy, I wouldn’t mind another Filipina to win. And the hands down winner is— Flor Tula! Her one and only elemental court: her nucturnal metamorphosis The White Lady of UP Diliman!
Go ako jan Scorg kay FLOR TULA – Miss Earthy ALL the TIME! He, he, he…
Miss Earthy for all seasons, day and night– the one and only Flor Tula!
Ang LAKI nang MATITIPID ni Carousel Productions. MALAKI rin ang kanilang KIKITAIN.
PERO HINDI PA PWEDE MANALO ULIT ang PHILIPPINES. NOT in the NEXT TEN YEARS. KAILANGANG MAIBANGON MULI ng Miss Earth ang kanyang LUGMOK nang REPUTASYON sa pageant Earth. The global pageant fans & critics have NOT YET FORGOTTEN the face of KI of KF.
I just hope that the MOST BEAUTIFUL, the MOST INTELLIGENT, the BEST SPEAKER, and the MOST CARING for the Mother Earth will WIN in the 20th Edition of Miss Earth. I am the Woman of the Earth, la, la, la, la…
