Džejla Glavović – she won Miss Earth 2002 but was dethroned seven months after
In only its second year of existence, Miss Earth crowned another European as the winner. Džejla Glavović of Bosnia & Herzegovina was adjudged the best that time. But almost seven months after, the organizers dethroned her for being unable to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the title. As a result, her 1st Runner-Up (Miss Earth Air 2002) Winfred Omwakwe of Kenya took over for the remainder of the reign.
”Džejla Glavović of Bosnia & Herzegovina won the title that year, also receiving Miss Talent. However, on May 28, 2003, the Miss Earth Foundation officially dethroned her “due to her failure to comply with the stipulations in her contract.” Miss Air (First runner-up) from Kenya, Winfred Omwakwe, took over the position of Miss Earth 2002. Omwakwe was formally crowned as the new Miss Earth 2002 on August 7, 2003 at the Carousel Gardens in Mandaluyong City, Philippines…”
Winnie Omwakwe took over as Miss Earth 2002
Being a top model in her home country and parts of Eastern Europe, Džejla must have been hard-pressed to turn down job offers without necessarily seeking the permission of Carousel Productions. I reckon that she chose to take the risk of losing the crown in order to freely accept new modeling assignments that are more income-generating on a professional level. The title of Miss Earth was still trying to build its brand at the time. And in her part of the world, the recognition possibly didn’t matter much to booking agents and the like. Hence, the pageant mileage may not have worked to her advantage.
While her replacement only had three months of reign as Miss Earth 2002, Winnie maximized whatever opportunities that came with the title. Being tagged as the first African to win the crown, she brought joy to her fellow Kenyans. A Physiotherapist by profession, she pursued the pageant’s environmental causes before finally making a farewell walk during Miss Earth 2003 where she was succeeded by Dania Prince of Honduras (left photo).

Daming DOM sa audience. Tatak Miss Earth. Chweh!
Eric Morley and Donald Trump as their idols of course.
What happened there Tito Norms? Can you spill it?
Why are audience members fanning themselves? The AC was defective, then?
And what about MPE? How will the 2020 Nationals manage now with the nCoV19?
Will there even still be a ME for 2020?
And which reminds me,….
Mr. Tinio, what is Cortesi’s long-term pageant plan? Will The Camp take her in, too?
Flor di ba walang aircon ang Folk Arts Theater, kaya FAN sila nang FAN noon. Miss Earth 2008 and 2010 was held outdoors also. Both held at the amphitheater.
@ Pierro Rocco BAGUIO CITY will be a GREAT venue for ME.
The Mansion House can be for the Press Presentation. Laperal House (now owned by the estate of Lucio Tan?) can be the setting for the NatCos Showcase. And the Botanical Garden can be for the Finals, the night air and pines bathed in orange floodlights. Mid-January will register coldest, and rainfall is practically nil. The winner can then live in the City for a year and be the star of the Panagbenga festivities. As what MUP-Baguio City said in her Beyond The Coastlines video, it is vital that residents THEMSELVES strictly adhere to City laws/rules governing environmental measures, among other things. ME can involve herself in these calls and initiatives.
BUT, if I were to choose a FOREIGN venue, I would nominate either Ecuador (refer to my comment in the Olga Alava post) or…. ITALY! Yep. Once Europe shakes off the pandemic, the delegates can visit both Lago Maggiore in Stresa and Giardini di Ninfa in Lazio (my comment in a post I no longer recall which one….). Final can be at the ROMANTIC Teatro Antico di Taomina, where Pink Floyd had a reunion concert in 2018.
I would never forget this edition since I helped organize the event’s swimwear video shoot in Oanglao when all 53 delegates visited my home province Bohol. So much to dish and to diss haha especially the behind the scenes. This was the start of my friendship with Peachy
I think I have an idea of what happened behind the scenes, CB. But past is past.
I remember most of the European girls overwhelmed with the warm reception of Bohol uring their welcome parade. Bohol is a pageant- crazy province where things can get really personal especially with the Miss Bohol results. You witnessed this yourself Tito Norms when you judged a couple of years ago
