  1. Pageant fanatics easily pass judgment on the artistic competence of RS and GF when most of them know little about photography. RS presented what basically are headshots, while GF presented portrait photography. Why headshots for BBP and full-body portraits for MUP? The reason is obvious. BBP’s focus is on physical/facial beauty. MUP’s focus is on total beauty—physical, cerebral, community advocacy.

    • Headshot images are commonly used for profile pictures, business cards, website “About Me” photos, and other types of press-related materials. Portraits commonly appear in more creative environment: magazine and other print media, blogs, etc. Headshots photographed in studio usually have neutral and clean backgrounds to exaggerate importance of the face. Portraits commonly use background and foreground as they help to tell the story better. While a headshot is usually tightly cropped and shows just a face, a portrait includes more/full body and a surrounding environment.

    • A headshot image normally has a more approachable feel because of where it is used. A portrait could be more realistic with less fluff, capturing self-expression since they are intended to contribute to the feel of a story. Headshots usually have no experimentation involved– simple standard backdrop, framing and stylization make an outcome very much predictable. Portraits have more flexibility, utilizing different lighting scenarios and environment to create original, non stereotyped images that reflect one’s individuality, personality, background, and help to tell one’s story better.

    • @ scorg Thank you for enlightening us.

We will tell Yayasan Puteri Indonesia, too.

      🙂

    • Scorg, just some clarifications:
      1. The difference between headshots and portraits is a no-brainer.
      2. I can’t speak for the rest but when I said these FDK glamshots for MUP were tacky I was referring to these specific shots and not to the photographer himself. In short I was judging the creations and not the creator. I will only judge the creator once I have seen a significant amount of his works.
      3. The alibi that the pageants’ choices of glamshot style are hinged to their foci/thrusts is just that, an alibi. Theme and quality go hand-in hand but they’re still distinct components. You can have the loftiest theme yet come up with the lamest end product, and you can have the most mundane theme but have it delivered in a classy product.

      Just saying.

      • May I take you to the next point that was the subject of my previous comment. I believe this is part of the strategy to highlight the promised “beautiful transformation” each candidate will have become after the 2-month training on styling, personality development, handling interviews, advocacy management. In GF’s head-to-toe framing, I can see that the candidates were captured flying their “freak flags”, so to speak, looking directly at or away from the camera, wearing outfits that each thinks accentuate their personal brands– not their face– but their totality. These are mostly pageant newbies. Coming from communities unheard before in the pageant circuit, the awkward poses, the unease in carrying humongous accessorized gowns, and the discomfort in donning on heavy make-up, are very evident on the photographs. GF has succeeded in presenting the aspirants in their rawness!

      • I am sure that after two months, another set of portrait photos will emerge to dramatize the beautiful transformation that has taken place. Then we can say, the entire MUP artistic and marketing team has done a wonderful job!

  2. Glamshots ba ito o photoshoot and damit sa isang direct selling brochure?

Sandra Lemonon, koronahan nyo na ngayun na. Sorry pero sya lang ang total package sa batch na itey.

  3. FLOR here are my REVIEWS and UNSOLICITED PIECES of ADVICE to SOME of the CANDIDATES and THEIR HANDLERS based on the posted photos:

    1. YSABELLA YSMAEL POSES the BIGGEST THREAT to MICHELLE GUMABAO in winning the
MUP crown this year. BOTH are from Dela SALLE University and are very good speakers. The
B__BS of Michelle ARE NOW AS BIG AS that of PIA’s.
    2. AZAILA MALINAO & APRIEL SMITH are more APPROPRIATE for MODELLING COMPETITIONS,
so I THINK they should JOIN MUTYA PILIPINAS because Cory Quirino HAS TWO top model
TITLES. Right? ISAMA na rin sa kanila si ZANDRA STA. MARIA AT KIMBERLY HAKENSON na
    pang-model din ang dating.
    3. PAULINE AMELINCKX, CHIARA MARKWALDER & RABIYA MATEO to join Miss World Philippines
because the Miss Multinational and Miss Eco International are waiting FOR YOU. Next, PAULA
ORTEGA is FIT for REINA HISPANO-AMERICANA.
    4. ISABEL GALERIA LOOKS TOO EXOTIC. PLEASE LESSEN the EXOTICISM. MARAMI PO
SIYANG KAMUKHA DITO SA AMIN SA MINDANAO. That is a VERY COMMON FACIAL BEAUTY
EVEN IN OUR THE KABUNDUKAN, therefore VERY ORDINARY. Join MUTYA PILIPINAS.
    5. SIGRID FLORES LOOKS VERY OLD in the PICTURE. MAKE her YOUNG LOOKING because she
is turning 28 this year. BETTER JOIN MUTYA PILIPINAS.
    6. LOU DOMINIQUE PICZON to JOIN MISS CHINATOWN, MISS CHINESE INTERNATIONAL kung
MERON. BASTA MAY KINALAMAN sa CHINESE.
    7. TRACY MAUREEN PEREZ to JOIN MUTYA PILIPINAS, Miss Philippines Earth or Bb. Pililpinas
NEXT YEAR. TRAIN SOME MORE specially on communication skills.
    8. SANDRA LEMONON to JOIN SHOWBIZ IF YOU CANNOT QUALIFY in Bb. Pilipinas next year.

OTHER CANDIDATES TO JOIN MISS WORLD PHILIPPINES & MUTYA PILIPINAS THIS YEAR OR TO Binibining PILIPINAS & MISS PHILIPPINES EARTH NEXT YEAR. GOOD LUCK LADIES!

    • @ paul Let me try something, here….

      1. Maliit si YRY (Ysabella Roxas-Ysmael). She will register like Fredeika Cull if she is sent. Now that I think of it, MG MUST MATCH the vixen image of Madison Anderson and Sofia Aragon if she is stand out! Sofia Aragon, I like a lot…. Very cerebral. 🙂
      2. I already recommended in an earlier comment that AM be dispatched to Supermodel International, a Thai-based search that should have been where Karen Laurrie Mendoza was supposed to go before she was given the option to try BBP (after placing at MIlo2x 2020 behind Rabiya Mateo). I think that was a good move! Her Thai-halfie look will not prosper among Thais. But they might like AM. 🙂
Apriel, I don’t know. She’s showing more promise than Skelly; @ Fabian Reyes is right! Skelly looks too young-ish, still. And she’s not very tall, after all. I really think Apriel has the best chance of acceptance of her look at MU. But as it is, how can it be done?
      3. Rabiya and Pauline would be EXCELLENT for both Multinational and Eco-International. But I want to reserve these two titles for KF girls and those who will come independent or from other camps.
      4. You would be surprised how many FOREIGNERS are STUNNED by Galeria’s look. I recall an interview with a young Alek Wek, when she was just starting out…. She would be considered ordinary back among her co-Dinka in South Sudan, but the fashion capitals of the world went ape over her! YES, I FULLY AGREE that she be endorsed DIRECTLY to Mdme. CQ for appointment as Tyra Goldman’s successor. We can finally bag the TMotW title with the Sorsogana!
      5. SGF is probably retiring now….. Nothing any of us can do.
      6. LDP just looks “chine”; I am unaware if she truly has Chinese extraction. @ Fabian Reyes said she looks like the next Janine Tugonon. I am of the opinion that among the Cebuanas currently there – TMP, AS, & LDP – it is the latter that has the best chance of making it into the Final 5.
      7. @ Cool Brew already is ahead of us all in saying TMP should have gone to MPE.
      8. Even if Lemon could still make the age ceiling in Albania (Globe), it will depend on how well she acquits herself at MUP now. DO NOT BELITTLE (The)Globe! Thanks to the likes of Ann, Leren, Nelda, Nicole Manalo, and even MG, Deliart Association holds HIGH expectations for our sash! They upgraded with a Head-to-Head Challenge last year, to emulate MW and Poland’s SupraChat. That being said, Justine Felizarta will surely not disappoint in this regard if she gets this assignment.

HOLY _RAP!!! Dakdak pa more, me. 😦

  4. Pansin ko lang nasobrahan ng photoshop liquefy filter yung mga lumilipad na gowns. Yung paa ni Michele Gumabao nadislocate. The photos are not flattering to the candidates, and the styling is so déclassé. There are photos na mukhang naka-chamba otherwise meh.

  5. Isn’t this a strategy to dramatise the “beautiful transformation” after the 2-month comprehensive pre-pagesnt training? Most of the candidates are raw beauties from far-flung the provinces unheard-of in the pageant circuit. I see in most photos their real self now– awkward posing, unease in donning heavy long gowns, edgy in their thick for-photoshoot make-up– but veritable diamonds-in-the-rough!. The optimist in me says that I should expect another set of glam shots after two months. There and then we would see who really exudes the “phenomenal woman” aura among the candidates!

    • If after two months of training, these diamonds-in-the-rough have indeed been transformed into sparkling gems, and every single candidate has evolved into a crownworthy “phenomenal woman”, and a “Before- After” glam shots were taken, isn’t this a very powerful brand-building strategy? Leave it to professional marketing strategists. I think they know what they are doing!

    • that make sense scorg. you have a point. read between the lines in their hashtag. But i hope it will come to reality a beautiful transformation for the next months. i am still trusting the process. There was a plan and those plan are not from him. magaling syang photographer eh. so the plans came from MUP for a purpose. for a surprise.

      • @Jed: How best can an events marketing company like MUP highlight its Unique Selling Proposition taglined “beautiful transformation”? Show the public the “Before” and “After” outcome of the process. If after the training process, the glam shots capture the inner and outer beauty of candidates that radiate the “phenomenal woman” look, I would say this is the handiwork of consumate marketing professionals!

  6. @the lovely Pauline of Bohol…
No, to her dotted-stockings please! It appears as if their are a thousand flies infesting her leg!
Not sexy at all bit a bit scary.

    So sorry!

  7. i have to agree on some points of lavinia and others. except class. d daw nya nakita ang class. hello! titasofpageanty. pano mo nasabi walang class. on the polished yes pero meron naman polished sa kanila. at ba laging ang mindset ng lavinia na yan eh laging nakikipagsabayan ang mup sa bbp. hello! on valentines event nauna mag circulate ang event ng mup kesa sa post ng bbp about their event. and yesterday nauna mag post ng mup sa fb nila ng glamshots 3 minutes ang pagitan. eh mas kita ngang bbp ang nakikipagsabayan eh! ni wala man lang ako nabasa na caption nya nakikiipagsabayan ang bbp. pero ang mup sinasabihan nya ng ganyan. haha kaloka laviniang yan. napaghahalataan ang pagiging anti MUP. ayaw pang sabihing anti MUP sya. dame pa kung ano pinagsasabi eh anti MUP na tunay naman. may pa cubao wins pa sya haha. kala ko naman eh nakikipag compete ang mup sa bbp. mga utak lang naman nila ang nagiisip ng ganyan. master of divisiveness talaga yang page na yon.

    • @ jed Now that you mentioned that “C” word…..

It’s possible FK deliberately did it THIS way so as to cater to a “less elite” demographic, UPON INSTRUCTIONS of MUP organization. What I am getting is that RS is “high-end/posh”.

After all, the AP candidates’ families and friends back home expect BLING-BLING. 🙂

      • @Flor: read my post above. Aren’t these less photoshopped (vs RS’ hevily photoshopped) photos part of MUP strategy? After two months we will see another set of glam shots and— whoaaah!– beautiful transformations have indeed taken place. If the MUP promise has indeed been delivered to each one of the candidates, and the level playing field transforms each one to be crownworthy, isnt’t this the most powerful building block to MUP brand?

      • Flor. i am hoping that its just a strategy and they will surprise the anti MUP with a bang!!!! kaloka sila eh may mga sablay din naman sa bbp like ung kay pat babista. jusko! tignan mo ang muk up. kagigil! some say tadtad ng editing ung sa mup nyek mas tadtad nga ng editing ung kay RS halos d mo makilala. katulad nung kay vickie. The only problem to FK is the background. me thinking is he is highlighting the pose and not the face. he is a professional photographer so he know what he is doing. he is showing something we cant pin point na out sa nasa isip o alam lang natin thats why nahuhusgahan ang kuha nya. and i think you know what it is flor 🙂. share some in you obsevation cause i am tired sa mga feeling expert na yan lalo na yang laviniang yan!

    • ANG TOTOO NIYAN KALABAN NI LAVINIA SI JONAS GAFFUD & COMPANY. KAYA DON’T EXPECT NA MAY MARAMING MAGANDANG SASABIHIN SI LAVINIA SA MUP. THUS, ANTICIPATE MORE ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE. ILANG BESES KO NA RING SINUPALPAL ANG BABAENG YAN SA KANYANG MGA VLOG DAHIL KUNG ANU-ANONG PINAGSASABI NA WALANG KABULUHAN AT HINDI NAKATUTULONG SA PAG-UNLAD NG ATING BANSA. CHAROT! Ha, ha, ha…

      • @Paul: After watching one episode of her vlog, I promised myself not to waste a minute of my earthly existence on opinionated blabbers from a present-day mutation of the much derided “movie scribes” some decades ago. You are correct. Instead of contributing to the development of pageantry in the country, her “crab mentality” is pulling it down. For what– to extol herself as the self-appointed authority on pageantry? The industry needs blogs like NormanNorman who provide a neutral clearing house of ideas for everyone, traditionalists and social realists, screaming fags and refined armchair analysts, street-smarts and ivory-tower breeds. Reading the commentaries is both amusing and educational, but in the end help one form enlightened opinions. Pageantry after all is a celebration of beauty, unity in diversity, and inclusiveness.

  8. Not a fan of the concept. Quality of the pictures, overall styling, editing not at par with BB. Only Smith, Lemonon and Galeria caught my attention. Sad for my bet Malinao.

  9. CHAKA NG PHOTOGRAPHY, CHAKA NG STYLING ANG SAKIT SA MATA.
DAMING KANDIDATA 96 % ANG FILLERS, 6 LANG ANG PAPASA SA TASTE KO…KALOKAH

  10. Cebu registered best in this photoshoot. Sorsogon comes in second; she looks expensive. Overall, this photoshoot is awfully tacky and mediocre. 😅✌🏽

  11. I have to admit, mag magaganda talaga yung glam shots na nirelease ng BBP on this same day kesa sa glam shots ng MUP. Imagine, face shots alone, napataob ni Raymond Saldana yung full body shots ni Filbert Kung. I mean Gold curtains as backgrounds tapos naka sparkly evening gowns??? What were they thinking???

  12. Only Piczon, Galleria & Ysmael nailed this shoot…
Ortega is almost ok but her facial expression missed the mark…

I’m disapointed w/ Gumabao, Smith and even Malinao…

  13. Ok…ok si Michelle pa rin ang fave ko. Pero bongga si Paranaque, Sorsogon and La Union! Medyo di ko type hitsura ni Alaiza. But glamour pics pa naman ito. Marami pang photos na lalabas. Good luck sa kanila. 🙂

  14. A golden mess! So much HYPE…only to get this mess!

Time to change your Digital/Production Team Jonas Gaffud

From that Press Red Carpet presentation to this, #HYPE pa more

    #AllTeaAllShade

  15. Bakit nilayo pics sa mga mukha? Gown and posing ba emphasis? Ang dilim din…parang gumamit ng generator kya ganito nangyari…😘

  16. One word :T-A-C-K-Y-U-C-K.

MUP organization, NEVER again hire FK and whoever the stylist is. 😦

    So Puteri….

Naalala ko tuloy ‘yang Kia Moreno na ‘yan (Camarines Sur). Nag-Nationals na siya.

Sige, bahala kayo kung sino’ng gusto niyo’ng panalunin. Our fifth MU crown is NOT here, for sure.

  17. Yung ibang gown parang hindi pa tapos sa pagkakayari! Hindi rin maganda yung fitting nung ibang gown!

Only April Smith looks professionally good in front of the camera!

Michelle’s gown hem was liked pinned on the wall instead of like blown on the wind!

Some of the girl still look aloof on the picture!

Iba pa rin mag-glamshot si Raymond Saldana!

I hope next time, they try Mark Nieto instead!

  18. In this presentation, once you see the first picture, just stop lookin’ . Paula Ortega of Albay got this. The elegance , sooo lovely . For the crown !!!
