While all of us are engrossed with the simultaneous goings-on at Bb. Pilipinas 2020 and Miss Universe Philippines 2020, the search for this year’s environmental advocates has been progressing at its normal pace with some of the Official Candidates already introduced in posts and updates in the pageant’s Facebook page. Meet some of the Earth Angels for 2020 who are likely to be familiar names and faces for most of you:
First on the list is Sherry Anne Tormes who was part of Bb. Pilipinas twice in the past. Originally, though, she was part of a previous edition of MPE. This is like her return to the competition that could bring her the crowning glory she has been aiming for.
And then we have Patrixia Sherly Santos whose pageant career brought instant recall to the “x” in her first name. She was also a Binibini in the past, aside from taking part in Miss World Philippines, Ambassadress of the World Philippines and the Redvocates Search for AIDS Ambassadors in the country.
Gianna Margarita Llanes was an Official Candidate of Miss World Philippines two years back. Her national pageantry experience brought the confidence in joining other smaller tilts where she was able to shine more strongly. In particular, she made it as 1st Runner-Up during Miss Mandaluyong 2019.
Roxie Baeyens may be the youngest among the six, but she is the one who has already represented the country in an international beauty competition. She emerged 1st Runner-Up during Miss Tourism and Culture Universe 2019 after being named Face of Tourism 2019. She is from Baguio City.
Justiene Ortega is one lady who was able to juggle time between her pageant conquests and gainful employment. It does help when the field of work is in sales and marketing. She was a contender in past stagings of both Miss World Philippines and Miss Tourism Philippines.
Finally, we have Hannah Bithiah Merino – a proud Lagunense who worked as Flight Attendant of Philippine Airlines. This tall lady was crowned Mutya ng Pilipinas Calabarzon before qualifying as one of the fifty lovelies who made the Golden Edition of Mutya ng Pilipinas more colorful.
These six Earth Angels will be joined by other contestants from different parts of the country in Miss Philippines Earth 2020. Watch out for them soon!
Whoever did Tormes’ nose should be fired. Looks like it’ll collapse soon.
Patrixia ang tipong candidate n kumakain ng microphone. I remember the local pageants she joined way back college days. She swept most if not all with victory. Sana mabigyan sya ng chance sa q&a. Once she answers a question, she shines her way to victory. Go Pat!
@ Mhel Arado As per Mr. Tinio’s bio on her, she now has the distinction of having the Top 3 Filipinas Nationals in her pageant resume – BBP, MWP, and now MPE. Ambassador and Redvocates thrown in, as well. WOW! Contesera. Enjoy niya talaga mag-pageant? 🙂
If there is one pageant which I had high hopes on a sustained advocacy-related action 365 days a year, it is this home grown beauty contest. Alas, after a short period of pre-pageant activities culminating in a 1- or 2-hour made-for-TV special, we hardly hear a bleat. Climate change is the most important issue facing the world today because of the looming existential threat to humanity. That makes the ME platform the most relevant defining raison d’etre of all pageants. But for years it seems to offer lip service to issue of environmental protection and preservation.
Last year, the world’s students went out of their classrooms to demand from their lawmakers, and the UN, concrete climate action. Where was ME in this march? Taal Volcano erupted. I saw photo ops of Binibinis distributing relief goods to evacuees. (I hope ME also had some related activities which did not reach my knowledge from where I work halfway across the globe). MUP emerged. Its innovative business model and forward-looking processes is shifting the beauty pageant paradigm, not only in the Philippines but also worldwide. I hope ME will level up.
The pageant veterans will fight to the Top 5 slots.
GUSTO KO TALAGANG MANALO si Sherry Anne Tormes BECAUSE ASIDE FROM I LIKE HER BEAUTY & PERSONALITY (warm & friendly), THIS YEAR WILL BE HER LAST CHANCE AS SHE IS TURNING 28 YEARS OLD. BUT THE GREATEST THREAT to HER WINNING the CROWN is Patrixia Sherly Santos who is A LAW GRADUATE from the SAME UNIVERSITY where FLOR TULA studied and finished a college degree. A bit sad for this.
ANO ang COMMENT MO DITO Miss FLOR TULA (Ang Puting Diwata)? He, he, he…
@ paul You are sad that I went to the same university as Patrixia? OK, I can take it….. 🙂
I think it was @ DanDan who said it’s best to start one’s fledgling pageant career at MPE as he made the observation that younger ladies are preferred and on the basis of this I had in mind the lass from the City of Pines (who brings to my mind Francine Prieto in her FHM Philippines prime). Besides, the BLOODY Q&A there, enough to induce La Nina if enough trees are planted, will be good training ground. Then, “retire” at either BBP or MUP, by which time you should in theory already be polished.
@ Norman Roxie Baeyens was 1st Runner-up at MUCT 2019? The one where Yves Campos won the Mister portion?
You know whom I would have wanted in the Elemental Court, too? Riana Pangindian, Sandra Lemonon, (alas! They are at MUP and we all know JG despises sending his wards to known KF stomping grounds), and Donnalyn Erno (ALAS! She apparently opted to defer Nationals this year and is now the reigning Saniata ti Ilocos Sur). Also nice to consider are BB’s like Denise Omorog, Darren Jane Genobisa, and the BEAUTIFUL Alannis Binoya.
So, our pageant paradigms seem polar opposites of each other.
Of course NOT FLOR. I AM HAPPY THAT BOTH PATRICIA & YOU WENT TO THE SAME SCHOOL. PAREHO KAYONG MATALINO. He, he, he… I AM SAD for ANNE TORMES for her chance of winning the crown is slimmer because of Patrixia Sherly Santos. PERO BAKA NAMAN MAS PILIIN NILA SI ANNE over PATRIXIA PARA HINDI MUNA TAYO MANALO ULIT ng MISS EARTH crown THIS YEAR.
Patrixia Sherly Santos will be crowned Miss Philippines Earth this year 2020. Remember this post.
