  1. In summary, Ms. Apriel Smith, DON’T JOIN YET.

We apologize for pressuring you. Go join when you feel totally ready.

And do it for yourself, not for anybody else. 🙂

  2. She is not articulate enough for today’s Miss Universe. I don’t think she’ll score high in the interview and statement categories.

  3. Methinks is not the equivalent of “I think.” The thinks in methinks comes from the Old English verb thyncan: “to seem” or “to appear.” The think in “I think I’ll drive to Tulsa this weekend” comes from Old English thencan: “to think.” Methinks means “It seems to me.” Originally, it was spelled as two words.

It’s’ Sir Norman who made use of “methinks” in his blog years ago, and some seem to follow suit without really thinking the appropriateness of the content in the context of what they’re trying to say.

  4. here we go again. just bcoz nacrown sila ng itim eh itim narin ipadala natin

this reminds me of how business back then in the philippines. pag may gumawa ng isang negosyo, gagawa din ang iba hanggang bankrupt dahil mas marami ang supply kaysa demand dahil maraming gumaya

  5. Our Benchmark at MU is Catriona while its Megan for MW… as long as we havn’t found a girl who could surpass their caliber, Miss Philippines will remain crownless at those pageants.

The more I think we should send a black girl at MU this year… She would be our 1st ever in all our top tier national pageants and the controversy would be more than enough to make that girl a front-runner. There are several factors to consider…. I don’t think MUOrg is ready to crown another black girl or another Miss Philippines this early… but what I am sure of is that there would be at least 1 black girl in the TOP5 next year and that same girl could also be Miss Philippines… Apriel Smith is no Megan Young or Catriona Gray but she could continue our placement streak and prove that a dark-skinned Filipina can be beautiful.

    • sinabi narin dati nang marami na MUO is not ready to crown another filipina after Pia yhen Catriona won after 2 years den SA won a sandwich victory…wala nang imposible ngaun basta malakas ang candidate…preparation and luck lang yan

  6. I have always liked her. At that time, honestly, I was rooting for Sam Lo to win. She had such an “angelic” aura back then (mali pala!).

Listening/watching her video, parang wala pa syang coherence sa thought process nya.

Anyway, matagal pa naman. May time to practice! I think she’s almost there, whatever she decides.

    • I never placed her in my TOP 6 at BBP but only as an alternate because I knew that there are girls more desserving than her…. She was picked to lose.

    • @ Anonymous Matagal pa? Hindi, ‘ah! It will be 2020 in a few weeks. Applications are already being sent out. Apriel must have already gotten the GROOVE by now. 🙂

      • @ Flor…naku, that’s true pala! It’s almost 2020. In my mind, the MU pageant was just last week so ang feeling ko is still another year. But of course, ang iniisip natin ay yung step by step process, starting with signing up for the local pageant, and that’s almost in a few weeks/months na lang. Maybe I’m really unconsciously gearing her to join in a couple of years and not next year.

  7. one off lang usually mga black beauty sa MU or MW
so definitely balik puti na naman ang MU and MW

    halfie ang padala
    Megan halfie
    Pia halfie
    Cat halfie

    happy halfie

  8. @ Norman I wonder if MUP will be like MUT….

MUT has this rule that requires (at least?) a SKIP of one (1) year if you want to try again. This means Valentina Giardullo-Ploy and Praveenar Singh, who competed in 2018 and saw the crowning of Sophida Kanchanarin, can be expected to re-surface (again) this year. And Thanachapohn Boonsang, Miriam Somnpromas, and Patraporn Wang could see action again in 2021.

Sa Puteri, once lang, ‘yata. Bawal umulit. Kaya, ‘yun, LAGING FRESH FEZ EVERY YEAR. But YPI is like BPCI, multi-title pageant ang ino-offer.

  9. me thinks titonorms that it’s kinda hard to bank on the past this time anymore given the different route that MUO is going esp after the trump era. It may be good to check what is context on that time when event like this happened — a back to black win. It is possible yet, that time has its own magic that made that moment happen. It may be different with ours now. For me, it maybe a good time to step back a little, pause, reflect and review what has been. And I think it is not for the selection team alone but also for the FANS. We might be too “gigil” that we tend to lose sight of certain details presented in front of us. Lu even, if I dont like her, hehehe, is quite explicit in what they were looking for esp during the time of Rachel Peters.. The win of Zobini might bring us to making decisions that it is about a girl who speaks well. But when I listen to Zobini it is not just her communication skills and intelligence but I see alignment with what MUO stands for.. I saw that in Pia and Cat.. I dont know, but I saw that it is beyond winning that made them deserving. that line “confidently beautiful with a heart” made me realize that Pia was able to bring to her core what she would be facing as an ambassador of MUO. and it is so believable that she is ready not to win but to take the job.. So for me, we might want to also add that to criteria in looking for the next candidate to send. May not be explicit but in our hearts and mind, we might want to ask: Will this woman really be able to take the role and responsibility of Miss Universe, the MUO and for what they really believe in? Those are just my thoughts.

    • Which makes me wonder why a lot of people are still clamoring for the past beauties (previous Binibinis or titleholders) to join. I am very open to fresh faces or untapped gems who have not done pageants yet. Problem is, whenever an unfamiliar beauty would be tipped as possibly joining (either MUP or BbP), there is instant resistance (read: automatic doubt/s if she can qualify) from some ends. How I wish that we give ALL potential aspirants a chance instead of assuming that one is not good enough for the big league.

      • @ Norman Fine, Mister Blogger. Then we will keep an eye for Pojas and Rhedey. 🙂

That being said, I realize there might be some wisdom for some returnee-crossover-prospects to SKIP this inaugural MUP, SIMPLY TO CHECK FIRST HOW IT WILL UNFOLD.

After all, haste makes waste and @ nsmith wants us all to give this all a second thought.

      • PASENSYA NA NORMAN. GANYAN TALAGA ANG FILIPINO PAGEANT FANS, AND DAMING MASABI (including me). Pag veteran, dami reklamo. Pag baguhan, dami reklamo. Nagkaka-ANING2X kasi pag beauty pageants na ang pinag-uusapan. Filipino pageant fans believe that (as if) beauty pageants are a MATTER OF GREAT NATIONAL CONCERN as well as of NATIONAL SECURITY THREAT LALO na pag natatalo ang ating mga kandidata (as if we are being attacked by other nations). HUWAG mo nang masyadong SERYOSOHIN, PAGTAWANAN mo na lang at basta POST nang POST ka lang ng pictures. HAYAAN mo na ang fans mong mag-react nang mag-react. He, he, he…

  10. Handlers, advise Ms. Smith to do away with that snap of the fingers in the air. 🙂

I SAW Ms. Grand-Panama 2019, IN HER! VENEZUELA 2020-BOUND, FOR SURE.

Angkol, do not worry, Sir. She holds a Filipinas passport.

  11. Me thinks she needs Spontaneity in her speech.
Does appear rehearsed and not coming from the heart.

    • I also noticed it….. both her And that Gigante girl..sounded vert rehearsed. However gigante girl sounded more articulate.

  12. I think this year is the perfect timing for her…
She is the total package… a tri-lingual with mutiple regional titles under her belt.. She would be our country’s 1st Miss Universe Philippines winner and the 1st winner ever with a great percentage of African ancestry(after Miss Margie Moran who has around 1/8th African -American ancestry) among all our national beauty pageants. She will be heavily bashed by our own countrymen who are rooting for their hometown bets and mostly favors a mix of caucasian features. That kind of publicity could propel her to at least land 1st Runner-up at Miss Universe.

  14. PH should definitely send Apriel Smith to MU but not 2020 please, kung pasok pa naman ang age, 2021 na sana sya sumali.

Pag sya ang MUP 2020, I think her chances for the MU crown are slim considering Zozobini’s win, na hinighlight ang pagiging descriminated ng mga itim, na pumatok naman. So ano, black ulit? Pwede rin naman ang Back to Black, anything is possible, pero mukhang ikakawalang gana na ng MU fans pag ganun.

    • Although there was already a precedent back in 1998 and 1999 when Wendy Fitzwilliams and Mpule Kwelagobe achieved a back-to-back for black women in Miss Universe.

      • 4M. Yes. possible. and i think its a good idea if we send a half latina next year who can speak spanish too. and who are the girls in this category? also girls who can speak spanish fluently?

      • Hmmm??? …

Sounds like a job for Laura Lehman…
Her mother is a Filipina mestiza and her father is Jewish-American… She’s Fluent in English and Tagalog and she studied Spanish… she can host and she is one of the most well rounded Binibinis… an athlete, an academic achiever and an entrepreneur..
She is most definitely desserving to land in the TOP 5.

      • Honestly, I thought Gazini would have been perfect for 2020.

I was rooting for Patch as MUP as she has the articulateness that would have been a good enough weapon at this edition of MU. I thought Gazini’s substance could be further enhanced with experience.

As for who looks like a Latina? Anyone who is just as gorgeous as Gazini would be a good candidate.

      • @ 4M Hahahah…. ! Here we go, again….. 🙂

Gazini. dapat 2020 na lang para mas mahasa….

Ta’s, dapat si Attorney, para three (3)-way lawyer showdown between Magtanong, Tafur, and Kryst.

Are we going around in circles. again?

Or, have we actually come FULL CIRCLE in terms of finally understanding the results of BBP 2019?

      • Hindi lang confident si Miriam in 1999 sa last round ng question. If she had answer it confidently, she would hav been the 3rd filipina missuniverse, kaya napunta sa black yung crown in 99. But miriam was the favorite and was favored to win but she lost her composure during the last round of competition.
