I always share my precious time to support municipal pageants with big dreams and who can actually deliver on their promise of producing an event where the success of the actual staging resonated far and wide in the province. This is Mister Teen Burauen, a proudly homegrown effort that shows what collaborative efforts among passionate and intelligent individuals can produce. And how.
Burauen is a first-class municipality in the Province of Leyte where male and female pageants are not wanting in numbers. There is a big difference, though, between just coming up with one and mounting a big event that can rival the efforts of its bigger provincial counterparts. B Creative Production – the team behind Mister Teen Burauen – made sure that their third edition surpasses all past efforts. Creativity is at its finest here where – outside the usual Q&A and formal Barong competition – the candidates went through the youth-appropriate Teen Superhero segment, Summer Wear (in place of a swimwear part) and the Future Career Attire judging. And the results? A pageant where the winners are not only appealing to the majority but also capable of delivering their respective causes beyond words.
Mental Health Awareness is one of their main thrusts – something that youth nowadays should be properly guided in. And the 2018 winner – Ramon Niño Barcinal – is an 18 year-old Grade 12 student and Palarong Pambansa football player who wants to gain a louder voice in reaching out to his fellow youth undergoing depression and the like. He nailed all his interviews en route to a lopsided win in the finals that he himself could not believe happening. He will now have a busy reign ahead, along with his court composed of 1st Runner-Up Jude Calderon, 2nd Runner-Up Neil Christian Alpino, 3rd Runner-Up Gabriel Badeo and 4th Runner-Up Shem Cabonegro. In the drawing board are more youth-oriented projects in Burauen, a trip to Manila for scheduled guestings and progressive activities that will help his fellow Burawanons.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire core team – made up of Clarito Logronio, Arch. Ivan Dale Abud (who is also the Official Photographer), Pete Figueroa, Kapitan Dennis Brosas, Jason Caande and Jenn Caspe – for making me a part of this achievement (mentoring and judging). Job well done, guys! Looking forward to Mister Teen Burauen 2019!
