So you think that predicting the results of #MrWorldPhilippines2018 is easy peasy lemon squeezy?

Think again.

There may be only sixteen (16) Official Candidates to base my fearless forecasts on. But with practically all of them qualified to become winners, putting the right guy for the right title is not a task one can do with eyes wide shut. I refuse to just see something in plain view, because of preconceived notions of what the superficial peg for a competition should look like.

Hence, I opted first to assign potential winners in each of the four (4) titles at stake. There is no denying that the three front runners among them are Half-Italian Marco Poli, Half-Lebanese Ameen Sardouk and 100% Pinoy JB Saliba. Each one of them possesses the qualities of a winner. 6’3” Marco and 6’4” Ameen have the height advantage, though. JB, on the other hand, may be shorter but he more than makes up for it in the communications department. And he is not lagging in looks as well. One of them will become our host delegate for the next edition of Mister World happening in Manila come January, 2019.

As for Mister Supranational, the towers of power Marco and Ameen are in the lead for consideration as well. They fit the peg of the Europe-based competition. But don’t count Denver Hernandez out. This Italy-raised hunk may not be tall but he is definitely a performer who can draw attention with ease and appeal. One of them could be Poland-bound by late November.

Going to Mr Eco International, I have always thought that a pretty face is tops in qualification, plus a more than decent level of articulation/thought processing. First to be considered would be former Mr Grand Philippines Joshua Reginald Banatin, followed closely by half-Dutch Robin Hanrath. Miguel de Castro could be the spoiler in this mix. One of them could be the eventual partner of Miss Eco Philippines 2018 Maureen Montagne for the international event.

And lastly, there is India-based Mr Multinational. This title is a little more difficult to set a profile for. But I would put in JB Saliba once more, along with half-Yemeni Abdullah Sharif Cheng and Wilfred Placencia as contenders. They offer totally different flavors and looks. I wouldn’t mind seeing one of them paired with Miss Multinational Philippines 2018 Kimi Mugford for the pageant mission next year.

Now if I want to push the envelope further and zero in on the predicted winners, I would go for:

1) Marco Poli as Mr World Philippines 2018 – he is almost 100% the total package, without a doubt. More polishing on the Q&A portion will complete the profile that would sit well with Julia Morley;

2) Ameen Sardouk as Mr Supranational Philippines 2018 – he has the engaging personality and physical attributes to do well in Poland;

3) Joshua Reginald Banatin as Mr Eco International Philippines 2018 – he has the matinee-idol looks coupled with intelligence that could suit the requirements of the international competition;

4) JB Saliba as Mr Multinational Philippines 2018 – he is the brand ambassador who can strongly sustain the image and ideals of the organization long after the winners have been chosen. And he is likely to be the best fit for India in the bigger mission ahead.

Tomorrow night is the Finals of Mr World Philippines 2018 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila. Show starts at 8pm. TV telecast will be on the night of October 28 over GMA-7.

  1. Ohh well, sad to say but Marco Poli settled for the Mr. Supranational PH title.
    JB Saliba won the the Mr. World PH title,
    Robin Hanrath won the Mr. Eco Philippines and
    Denver Hernandez got the Mr. Multinational Philippines.

    Based on over-all package…

    Nway here are some tips…

    Joshua Banatin.. charming and inteligent, that is what they all say… but u needs to go to the gym please?!!
    Focus on your traps, arms and deltoids.. have at least 1 day a week dedicated for your legs…
    And what’s with the hair-cut?! Clean it up! You’d be a perfect match to accompany Maureen. 🙂

    JB Saliba… I think you are the total package… An athletic homegrown Filipino w/ great comskills.. Could have been a perfect host delegate at Mr. World if only you were taller by an inch or two…Which ever pageant you would land on.. I hope you would win. Goodluck! 🙂

    Ameen Sardouk.. so tall, cute and grew up in the Philippines… You would do well at Mr. Supranational… Hopefully you would bring home our 1st Mr. Supranational crown. Focus on your arms, delts, chest and back… maybe some waxing on the legs?… Make lots of friends and make us proud!

    Ameen is cute but looks lousy.

  6. Ameen Sardock is the guy for Mr World Philippines. Marco Poli is good for Mr Supranational. Ameen has that face that MWO is looking for in their winner. He is so masculine and yet has that very universal appeal. Don’t care for those cheap pageants like Mr Eco or Multinational.

  9. If they can’t excel in Mister World’s extreme sports challenges, they aren’t winnable. The recent winners all figured well in those challenges. They need to be man’s men – fit, focused, sociable and hungry to win.

    • Andrew Wolfe did well on the extreme sports challenge and almost clinched the title.

      • Exactly. Now this JB Saliba has a lot to prove that his sports academic background will actually translate as real deal when it gets down to the dirty wire. He seems intense (which is a good thing for a competitor). I’m not particularly concerned with his height because the last two winners aren’t exactly the tallest (hope the commenters here will do their research). In the Mister World official website, Mister World 2014 Nicklas Pedersen of Denmark is registered as 181 cm tall (he looked obviously short against his runners up) while the current titleholder Rohit Khandelwal of India is 182. When strictly converted to feet, Nicklas is barely 5.93 feet while Rohit is 5.97 feet. In the pageant world, they’re loosely converted as 5’10” and 5’11”, respectively. So what were the clinching factors – both excelled in the sports heat (Nicklas was overall sports winner and Rohit was a runner up plus won Multimedia just like Andrew). In the case of Mister World 2013 Francisco Escobar of Colombia, he was tall alright at 189 cm (about 6′ 2″) but he was top 3 of 4 out of 5 sports heats. It boiled down to the taste of the judges in finally deciding between Francisco and Andrew. Lastly, they exuded so much charm and confidence in the final interviews.
