Queen of Quezon City 2018: Meet the Candidates

During the Press Presentation of Queen of Quezon City – Our City’s Pride at the Monet Ballroom of Novotel Manila Araneta Center, twenty-four (24) Official Candidates were introduced to selected members of the showbiz and pageant media. All of them showed the smarts to become the next potential LGBTQi Ambassadors of the biggest city in Metro Manila where inclusivity is being proudly observed.

Quezon City continues its endeavor to spread Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) awareness through the search for the next Queen of Quezon City (QQC).

After thorough screening, 24 candidates have been officially chosen to take part in this year’s pageant and compete for the title.

The candidates, all residing in Quezon City comprise of Erwina Tirambulo from Talayan Village; Redj Daria Espinosa from Brgy. Tagumpay; Ehm-jay Buena Tuazon from Brgy. Loyola Heights; Terresa Caranzo and Samantha Garcia from Brgy. Bagong Silangan; Louise Manalo from Brgy. San Roque, Cubao; Avah Torres Pineda from Brgy. Pag-ibig sa Nayon; Angel Artita from Brgy. Bagbag, Novaliches; Shine Rodriguez and Jhade Ellorin Soberano from Brgy. Bagong Pag-asa; Naomi Fontanos from Brgy. U.P. Village; Denine Palacio from Brgy. Mariblo; Keith Legara from Brgy. Talipapa, Novaliches; Casey Banes Paculan from Brgy. Piñahan; Scarlet Alcaraz and Yanyan Idalia from Brgy. Commonwealth; Andrea Justine Aliman from Brgy. Sacred Heart; Nica Kate Sapinoso Brgy. San Roque, Cubao; Jhonna Castro from Brgy. Holy Spirit, Maria General from Brgy. Nagkaisang Nayon; Summer Lariosa from Brgy. Dioquino Zobel; Rami Hannash from Brgy. Sta. Lucia, Novaliches; Ghen Antolin from Brgy. Sta. Monica, Novaliches; and Pamcee Vera Perez from Brgy. Gulod, Novaliches.

The candidates were screened by a community led by Teresa Mariano, the QC Chief of Staff for Administration; Police Senior Inspector Rene Balmaceda, the first openly transgender cop in the Philippine National Police (PNP); and Andrew de Real, TV director and writer of “Godfather of Malate” and “King of Comedy Bars.”

From these candidates, the city will choose a new “Queen of Quezon City”, who will receive 300,000 pesos. It will also choose its new court, which will include “Lady Equality”, “Lady Respect”, and “Lady Pride”, who will each receive 100,000 pesos.

The candidates will be judged according to their physical qualities – beauty, intelligence, and personality – and readiness to embody the ideals of the LGBT community.

The pre-pageant will be held on October 15 and the journey of the candidates will culminate on Coronation Night, November 10, Saturday, at the University Theatre, Diliman, Quezon City.

The pageant offers a platform for the LGBT community to empower themselves and stop the discrimination they have continually faced, focusing on the virtues of respect, equality, pride, and empowerment.

Through this pageant also, Quezon City aims to emphasize the city’s role as a pioneer in the promotion and advocacy of gender fairness and equality among its residents and all Filipinos.

The city marked a big step in creating a gender-fair and gender-sensitive environment when it passed ordinance no. 2357 or the ordinance providing for a comprehensive anti-discrimination policy on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression (SOGIE) in 2016 with its corresponding Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR).

  2. o celebrate respect, equality, pride, and empowerment, Quezon City is now accepting applicants for Queen of Quezon City 2018, a pageant open to all transwomen.
    To qualify, applicants must be a resident of Quezon City, at least 18 years old, 5’5” in height, with proportional body measurement and has reached 2nd-year college or its vocational-technical school equivalent.
    Candidates must present proof of residency, which includes a barangay residency certificate of at least six months and a Quezon City voters’ identification or Commission on Elections certificate. Applicants must also secure an endorsement from the Barangay Pride Council, with an approval from the Barangay Chairperson.
    Apart from the above, drug test results and National Bureau of Investigation or Police Clearance must also be submitted.

    The organizers also said it will favor candidates with a strong sense of social awareness. Applicants must not have an existing management contract. Should applicants win, titleholders must be willing to fulfill her respective duties and responsibilities for one year.

      • Before Quezon City was created, it was composed of small individual towns. Then in the early 20th century, President Manuel L. Quezon dreamed of a city that would replace Manila as the country’s capital city. It was believed that he got this idea when he went to Mexico earlier.

        In year 1938, President Manuel L. Quezon decided to create a new city that will replace Manila as the capital city of the Philippines. That was due to the fact that Manila was getting crowded and was an easy target for bombardment by naval guns because it was near by the bay.

        Without thinking that there is still possibility of bombardment from the air, still Quezon continued the idea of a totally new city at least 15 km away from Manila Bay, beyond the reach of naval guns. Quezon contacted William E. Parsons, an American architect and planner, and helped on selecting the Diliman (Tuason) estate as the site for the new city. Within that year Parsons died. His partner Harry Frost took over the assignment. Then the collaborated effort began constructing plans for the next capital of the Philippines, Quezon City. The plan was then approved by the Philippine authorities.

        Quezon City MapThe city lies on the Guadalupe plateau which is a relatively high plateau on the northeast corner of the metropolis – between the lowlands of Manila to the southwest and the Marikina River valley to the east. The southern portion is drained by the very narrow San Juan River and its tributaries to Pasig River, while running in the northern portions of the city is the equally narrow Tullahan River.

        Quezon City is bordered by Manila to the southwest, by Caloocan and Valenzuela City to the west and northwest. To the south lies San Juan and Mandaluyong, while Marikina and Pasig borders Quezon City to the southeast. To the north across Marilao River lies San Jose del Monte in the province of Bulacan and to the east lies Rodriguez and San Mateo, both in the province of Rizal.

        The city can be divided into a number of areas. The southern portion of the city is divided into a number of places including Diliman, Commonwealth, the Project areas, Cubao, Kamias, Kamuning, New Manila, San Francisco del Monte, and Santa Mesa Heights. The northern half of the city is often called Novaliches and contains the areas of Fairview and Lagro. Most of these areas have no defined boundaries and are primarily residential in nature.

        The city is the most populous city in the country with a total population of 2,761,720 as of 2010 living in the land area of 64.17 sq miles (166.2 km²).

        Products and Services

        Quezon City is home to the Philippines’ major broadcasting networks. Television companies such as TV5, ABS-CBN, GMA Network, INC TV, UNTV, Net 25, PTV, RPN, and IBC all have their headquarters in Quezon City.

        Business Opportunity

        The commercial center of the city is in Cubao where many shopping malls and the Aurora Tower can be found. There is a farmers’ plaza and farmers’ market. Fiesta Carnival was an enclosed amusement park cum carnival which is located in the heart of the Cubao Commercial Center, it has since been replaced by a branch of Shopwise, a local supermarket chain. You will also find the Araneta Coliseum, a venue for concerts as well as sports events.

        Tomas Morato and Timog Avenues are the heart of a restaurant and entertainment row with a wide array of prices, cultures, and flavors while Banawe Avenue is dubbed as the Autoparts Capital of the Philippines because of the concentration of car parts shops and accessories and home to clusters of authentic Chinese restaurants aside from Binondo. The tallest building in the city is a 40 storey Eastwood Parkview located in Eastwood City.

  6. Marami talaga ang nag-rereact if si Catriona na ang pinupuna. It goes to show na ang fame whore na to ay inuuto lang talaga ang mga Pinoy. Nagpapa-uto din naman ang mga Pinoy. Sige lang, once December comes, makikita natin ang katotohanan. Ang katotohanan ay si Catriona ay isang talunan na fame whore. Ang mag-rereact, mahilig sa banyagang fame whore.
