A match of two wide-eyed dreamers make up the 9th pair of Official Candidates for Mr & Ms Hannah’s World Tourism Philippines 2018 – a guy who juggles his time between two occupations and a girl who turned her beauty queen aspirations into a film.
Meet Joie Rey Dagsa #TeachingTourGuide and Jaya May Bernardo #PromdiQueen.
25 year-old Joie (pronounced simply as “Joey”) combines two uniquely intertwined jobs that he holds close to his heart – teaching at school and touring guests around Palawan.
Speaking has always been his passion, reason why being a teacher and a tour guide at the same time gives him the opportunity to talk and share his knowledge about everything, most especially about his goals and advocacy in life – Information/Education Campaign and Community Empowerment. It may sound cliché, but he always dreamt of becoming an Ambassador. And being part of Mr & Miss Hannah’s World Tourism Philippines 2018 brings him one step closer to the same.
“I’m really a man of ambition, opportunity and positive thinking. I believe in the philosophy that life is not a matter of chance but a matter of choice. Aside from my two jobs, I also do events hosting. I’m also a cultural dancer of PSU Sining Palawan Dance Troupe where I can express my love for the arts and culture like folk dancing. I believe that culture gives us a sense of self-identity as true Filipinos as it plays a big role in contributing to the tourism industry.”
Many individuals asked Joie why he joined this advocacy driven pageant. It is his dream to be a Brand Ambassador. And he wants to turn it to reality if destiny aligns in his favor next month.
Jaya of Lemery, Batangas is a freelance model, student film actress and a filmmaker. She loves dogs and sunsets, can speak some Danish and is quite the nocturnal person. She reigned as Mutya ng Lemery Turismo 2014.
“I am very adaptable with my surroundings believing that the ones who survive in this world are neither the most intelligent nor the strongest but the ones who are responsive to changes. I joined because aside from my advocacy, I also want to prove my personal worth. Having a strong heart and an open mind, I want to push myself to my limits. This quest for a crown is one adventure I’d like to experience and do very well in.”
As a filmmaker, she was part of a group that made a movie titled “Boyet Loves You” which won a string of Sinepiyu awards, plus a 2nd output called “Promdi Queen” where she starred in. The plot of the latter work parallels her life in progress as it is about a hardworking woman who wants to become a beauty queen and help her family with all that she can inspite of the struggles and despair. In essence, the story reveals her journey towards being called #PromdiQueen.
