10th pair in our blog series introducing the Official Candidates of Mr & Miss Hannah’s World Tourism Philippines 2018 is made up of the representatives from Tabaco, Albay and Guimaras Island. One is a guy who sings from the heart and a girl who half-runs her life connected to the virtual reality of the internet.
Meet Roland John Torres #SingingHeartthrob and Josephine Segovia #DigitalBeauty.
Introducing Roland John “Jhay” Torres, proudly representing Tabaco City, Albay. He works as an events singer, host and stage actor. He also did some minor TV advertisements a few years back. One of his biggest dreams is to be able to compose an OPM song that will become a big hit. But that’s getting far ahead of the future he has plotted in five years’ time.
“I have a unique life story. No one really expected that from a painfully shy kid, I will be able to do what I am doing right now. When I was in grade school, I was bullied because I didn’t know how to express myself. I had this fear to face many people and I always got misinterpreted for that behavior. The worst feeling is that you know you have a talent but you are afraid to show it. But it changed when I was pushed to join a singing competition in my school, that day I realized that if others can, why can’t I?”
What sets him apart, talent-wise?
“I sing. And I can sing pretty darn well. It’s my way of expressing myself because there are feelings that words can’t express but music can. It also made me believe in my own capabilities. My life will never be the same without singing, or music for that matter.”
The grown-up Jhay is now living his life to the fullest without any fear. He believes that God will not put the desires if he is not capable of achieving it. He wants to give every endeavor his best shot, and this pageant is one avenue where he can prove himself right. No comparison to others so he can embrace his entire self. Whole-heartedly, that is.
Josephine is a 25-year old beauty from Guimaras Island who doesn’t stick with the status quo. Being the eldest child, she grew up to be independent, goal-oriented, and risk-taking. The biggest risk she took in her career was resigning as Teacher 1 from the Department of Education to follow her heart, go out of her comfort zone and discover more about what she really wants in life. This Mutya ng Guimaras 2017 and former Miss Millenial Philippines representative from “Mango Country” is now poised to spread her wings even wider as she competes for Mr & Miss Hannah’s World Tourism Philippines 2018.
“Currently, I am working as an all-around Virtual Assistant. I have done administrative tasks, managerial duties, graphic design, video editing, WordPress website handling, accounting works, and Social Media Management among others. If I don’t know something, I research it on the internet – a digital world I considers as an extension of my life because this is where I earn money to finance myself. I am also a practical person. I don’t invest on time, love, money or feelings on something or someone that won’t have a positive impact on me. Life for me is a matter of choices. I am where I am today because of the choices I made yesterday. And I always make an effort to see the good side in every story. My motto right now is this – I will never lose, either I win or learn something.”
