  1. Tito Norm, congratulations! You deserve such a recognition..noong nasa ibang bansa up to pag-uwi ko ng pinas for good, itong blog mo ang tunay na nagpapasaya sa akin kaya maraming salamat…just continue doing what you love most ..God bless po! 🙂

  2. Congratulations Norman! This is a recognition of your contribution to pageantry both as an industry and a national passion. I hope you will continue to be a positive influence to the sustainability of the tag “Beauty Pageant Powerhouse” for the Philippines. I’ve been hearing of ideas about your possible entry into the beauty camp business. Whatever media you adopt, beauty camp or blog, I hope you will not lose sight of the goal: continued dominance of the Philippines as the reliable source of high-caliber spokespersons and image models for international pageantry organizations.

I wish that for next year, your blog or beauty camp would be a positive stimulus towards changing the way we view beauty contests, and the way we train our international representatives. Let us learn lessons from this year’s ignominy. We keep on training our representative on a one-size-fits-all strategy when each international pageantry organization has a very succinct specs on the persona they want. Case in point: the post-Trump MU brand building is headed towards empowered strong-willed women. I have since been harping on my replies to your blog post the idea of building Rachel Peters’ personal brand around a back story of her passion for surfing or entrepreneurial drive. My idea received a lot of thumbs down; my unsolicited advice totally ignored. Meanwhile, the hype over her physique, pasarela, styling, EG and SS continued unabated. The MU result is a vindication of sorts: all those in the Top 5 had a clear personal brand bolstered by compelling back stories that dramatize their advocacies that ultimately mirror their exemplary values and character.

The whole point is: we should start treating each international beauty pageant organization as an entity looking for a very specific spokesperson or role model, and mold our representative to match their exact specifications. Should you branch out to beauty camp business, part of the task is to have a precise market intelligence on the strategic direction and business preferences of MU, MW, ME, MI, MS and all other pageantry organizations. If you continue on with the blogging business, I hope your blog site can help spread appreciation on the multi-dimensional concept of beauty, and that the physical dimension has no universal standard as it is culturally defined. This can help reduce cyber bullying based on looks.

    • In regard to back story , I don’t think that was the reason why Rachel failed to make it in to the top 5 . I think it was her overall presentation. , the lack of a winning attitude and the ‘coyness’ which was visible from the top 16 interview onwards. Also, I think those ‘diva’ male judges did not like the shrieking Pinoy fans so they decided to put an end to it quick. If there were more ‘male’ judges , I think Rachel would have had a better chance.
Is there a specific formula for each contest ? Uh oh . I think if we can find someone pretty youthful and in shape who is articulate sociable and knows how to work the stage … we have the best girl for every international beauty pagean there is .

So a performer on stage is definitely a plus … Cat and Wynwyn , are you reading this ???

      • Fabian, while this is also true, I submit that we have to treat this very business-like. Handlers and beauty camps have to know what persona exactly the specific pageant organisation likes. Then we train the candidate according to the specs. If they are customer-centric, they should know that the one-size-fits- all strategy will not work. The task is simply like surrounding a product with the branding that hews exactly to the specifications of the customer. The customer, MUO, wants her spokesperson and image model to project inner strength and unyielding spirit. The personal brand of a successful candidate must reflect this in all aspects of her presentation– in and out of stage. On stage, the “lack of winning attitude” and “coyness” certainly do not reflect inner strength and unyielding spirit. Outside the stage, back stories are the most effective way to communicate a personal brand essence, or the person’s values and character. The handlers obviously missed out on these and instead fussed over her styling, pasarela, EG, SS, etc. The result is what we already know. That’s why I believe an important component to the sustainability of our winning streak is the business buzzword– customer-centric!

      • @scorg , that is assuming the winner has been determined prior to the prelim and finals night.
But if the coronation judges are to decide who wins the crown , it s hard to fathom how a back story will help considering the limited amount of time spent on it .
Rachel’s video may not be dramatic but it shows that she is is an outgoing modern woman . .. this could have at least put her into the top 5 .

SA deserved the crown not because of her back story . She showed beauty grace and great confidence and gave the best answers to the questions.
I do not think Thailand had a great backstory and she could have won if she didn’t fumble on the question .
For me , to have a dramatic backstory is great but I do not think it is absolutely necessary to win a crown

      • Fabian, actually we are on the same page. We just differ on the role of back stories on branding, specifically on a personal brand of an MU contestant. As a strategic planner by profession, I know that a back story is an effective marketing tool to communicate a brand essence to mass audiences. Compelling back stories, especially those associated with one’s advocacy, easily stick to the brain. In today’s information overload, the battle for consumer mind space is won if your brand has created an imprint into the brain.

From the very beginning, I believe SA’s personal brand has created a brain tattoo on many a pageant enthusiasts’ mind, thanks to her dramatic relatable back story. Since her personal brand is congruent to that of MU’s, her only task is to consistently project her brand essence from Day 1 to the coronation night. Yes, she has shown “beauty, grace and confidence” and “gave the best answer to the [judges’ final] question” because she fully knows herself and projects herself clearly through her personal brand.

I hope I don’t sound preachy on this. But if this is the only way we pageant enthusiasts can help develop pageantry in our country, no matter how far away our workplace is, we have to at least put our two cents worth of insights.

  5. mej OOT pero bilib din ako sa hairline at thickness ng hair ni Tito N. o! Yung mga katabi niya halos panot na at mas bata pa ata sakaniya pero si Tito N. bongga padin. When I grow up I wanna be like Tito N.’s hair. Charot! So Tito N. ano secret mo?

  6. Congratulations Norman! I suggest you level up your brand and open a beauty camp. It is just a tip of the iceberg that you open your own and use your experience to develop queens. Who knows you’ll be larger than those 2 beauty camps. Kahit di ikaw ang magturo mag hire ka na lang but with your ideas, concepts, and guidance I’m sure the candidates will win!

  9. Heartfelt congratulations 🎉 🍾 🥂 🎊 Tito Norman! So well deserved and quite long overdue actually. Coming on the heels of your being the only pageant blogger/expert featured in Umagang Kay Ganda during their Miss Universe Primer – out of the so many out there both legit and otherwise. And your attitude in the light of the usual adversities is so commendable and inspiring even – keep it up! Again kudos and more power! 👏 👏 👏
