That pretty much sums up the most awaited announcement made during the Miss World Philippines Media Conference at New World Makati Hotel. With National Director Arnold Vegafria and General Manager, the event was graced by Miss World 2013 Megan Young with previous and reigning Miss World Philippines titleholders Gwen Ruais, Queenie Rehman, Hillarie Parungao and Catriona Gray.
In addition, it was announced that the Press Presentation of the Official Candidates will be on August 5. General Manager Bessie Besana also detailed that BYS Cosmetics is the Official Cosmetics with New World Makati Hotel as Official Residence.
For the Top Model Challenge, there will be a Brand Fashion Show which will be open to the public, a Charity Gala Night for the Talent competition, a Sports challenge where the ladies will be divided into 3 teams, Beach Beauty Challenge and a Charity Day (Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center – Official Beneficiary). Details for the BWAP will follow soon.

There were at least three international franchize holder for Miss Multinational, one base here in Davao City Philippines, one in UK and the other one in India I think the one in India is the one choice by MWPO.

Can you guys imagine how the BWAP and fake fast track events the local Mess World Phils girls will prepare for will give them an edge when they compete at Reina Hispanoamericana and Miss Eco chuchu as well?? Getting the franchise of these minor pageants is just downright stupendous haha! They shouldve just focused on MW alone. The only good thing that will come out from joining the minor pageants is the exposure it will give our girls and prepare them in joining BBP. Lastly, we will never ever forget the injustice that Aling Hulya did to our Catriona. Kaya saksak mo sa puso mo yang MESS WORLD mo. For sure Indonesia and China will place/win this year. Jeremi my dear, if u were reading my previous comment, i said that the time Gwen Ruais was named ist runner up, Pinoys were very vocal that we didnt deserve the placement. It was given simply because it was relatively a new franchise by Cory Quirino. And Pinoys were vocal about that. The time that all our MWP girls placed in the semis, we were ok with it because we know for a fact that they deserved to be in the semis because they have been placing consistently on most of the fast tracks—unlike Ms Puerto Rico who was nowhere near the fast tracks and yet won. Politics at its finest. Go figure.

I’m gonna have to chime in here too. If you remember, Miss World-France 2014 Flora Coquerel arrived late and missed out on a couple of the fast tracks. She topped the interviews and came out #1 at the first round of the leaderboard, and yet did not make top 25. And yet, Miss Puerto Rico actually makes it all the way to winning in Mess World 2015 despite not figuring in any of the fast track events? Highly dubious.
I think this may be the reason why Aling Hulya decided there would be no leaderboards for the MW 2016 finals night, because there was no way they could justify PR winning. Seems it was already set up from the very beginning.
We may be looking at China or Indonesia winning Mess World this year.

Marami ng pinagdaanan ang MW pero isa pa rin sya sa mga well-loved pageant in the world kaya sya lang ang nakakaabot ng more than 100 countries na participant. Rating? Kala mo naman Pinas lang ang nanonood. My God ilang taon ding naging “invisible” ang mga rep natin sa pageant na to pero naapektuhan ba sila. To be honest, this year’s winner fits MW while Catriona was too contrived almost robotic actually (reminds me of Stepford Wives) even her swim suit walk was stiff and robotic just by looking at her legs. Kaya tama na ang sour graping.

@jeremi just so you know. Miss World is not the “kauna-unahang beauty pageant org sa buong bundo”. Back in the 1930s up to before the start of World War 2 there was already a pageant called Miss Universe (totally unrelated to the current one tho). And even before that, during the American colonization of the Philippines the country had been conducting annual Carnaval Queen parades back then which were considered as a beauty pageant as well. If that’s not enough for you, we might as well credit the Miss America organization as the “oldest SURVIVING” pageant org in the world (of which its winner’s refusal to wear Catalina Swimwear swimsuit led to the creation of the present day Miss Universe). In fact, we can even consider MUO (and its roots) as an older institution than MWO, nagkataon lang na nalaman ni Eric Morley yung plano ng US to conduct an international beauty pageant kaya inunahan niya (by one year) na magconduct ng sarili niyang pageant para maclaim na mga British ang nauna.

Ann Colis is a goddess but Julia Morley wont like her. Ann is too dusky for Julia and Ann do not possess the Anglicised demeanor that julia interested in. Laura is a nice deal for Julia but I hope Laura should colour her hair blonde and do some little curls tgat would make her similar to Miley Cyrus, Sheree Lee Biggs, and Tegan Martin. Laura would be at her best if she choose to wear Blonde and we all knpw tgat Julia loves Blondes (Alexandria Mills, Rolene Strauss, Mereia Lalaguna)
@Fabian Reyes I agree that Laura Lehmann has a much better chance to win one of the six crowns in BB Pilipinas than to win the MWP crown especially a Big Four crown like Miss International where Kylie Verzosa used her smarts to deliver a great speech for her advocacy.
As for Miss World, I’m not giving up on it since I would like to see the PH join the list of countries with multiple MW titles, but the next MW titlist from the PH need all the breaks going her way.
Cory Quirino says that Miss World is the Super Bowl of beauty pageants where I agree. I look at like this for the other three Big Four pageants:
– Miss Universe aka the FIFA World Cup/Olympics/World Series of beauty pageants
– Miss International aka the NBA Finals of beauty pageants
– Miss World aka the Super Bowl of beauty pageants
– Miss Earth aka the Stanley Cup of beauty pageants

I hope it is still there, but Sash Factor posted a story a few days ago of how Mr. Donald Trump had talked to Mr. Eric Morley, offering to BUY the MW brand, but of course this was declined. This conversation, of course, if true, happened years ago. And according to Ms. Julia Morley, Mr. Trump considered MW as a competitor, at least in the USA, if I recall correctly.
I just wonder what WME/IMG thinks of the “Trump legacy” they bought (into). I just hope they are not regretting it. And would they consider MW as competitor, too?
If Popova Palina (instead of Aleksandrova Ksenia) and the controversial Ms. Demi-Leigh Peters were fielded to MU instead of MW, would MU get more audience share?
Comments arose of the financial soundness of the MW organization, and therefore the thought of Mr. Trump acquiring MW to “rescue” it is utterly silly. And that China “wooed” MW with a hefty franchise fee. That it was inaccurate that MW franchise fees are always less than MU’s. And that the most expensive pageant to join is… MI.
OK. If MW truly is financially sound, then there should be little need for sponsors and Ms. Morley’s team should EASILY be able to SINGLEHANDEDLY mount the pageant in… Filipens!

We hate Mess World so much that the controversy that would create would be more than sufficient publicity. And Ms. Morley knows that the curiosity of Filipinos (the kind that takes in a coup de’tat as it unfolds) would most probably make us give in anyway. Or maybe we easily forget? Forgive? F….?
So yes, I know we will learn to love MW again in time. And that minor-minor pageants are inevitable.
Donald Trump stated in an interview that he wants to buy MW just to dissolve the pageant because it is dying and also to make way for Miss Universe as the ultimate beauty pageant in the planet with no ther brand alongside at all.

Si Raquel Pellisier pala 4th placer sa Reina Hispanoamericana last year at marunong siya mag Spanish bukod sa English at French na normal sa mga Hatians. I just watch the full show and the whole pageant is in Spanish even the interviews and final q&a. Parang talkshow ang interview segment nila sa tagal. So malamang si Patricia Ortega ilalagay jan ni Vegafria.
So sa pageant na yan hinde lang basta basta spanish and american colonized na bansa ng sasali. dapat yung rep ng bawat bansa marunong din sa spanish?? so i think dapat wala sa MWP yan. bukod dapat ang pageant na yan. Dahil ang focus ng MWP is for MW. no activities regarding spanish speaking. what if kung walang sumali na marunong sa spanish so kailangan pang turuan. eh it takes a year bago ma makatuto or a months depende kung mataas ang IQ mo at fast learner tapos september ang finals ng mwp eh kailan ang finals ng pageant na yan? oct? nov? dec? this year. so kulang sa time for training. siguro handpick nalang nila si Gabriela Ortega now pa lang. testing muna. para marami time sa pagpapapayat si ateh. Actually maganda ung Reina Hispanoamericana. May sariling identity ang pageant. Para syang beauty pageant ng Spanish Speaking Countries. Curacao at Haiti lang ang hindi Hispanic country na sumali. Ung organization pala nila pinipili lang ang countries na pwede sumali at sila mismo ang nag iinvite. Matagal na pala gusto ng mga Bolivians na makasali ang Pilipinas jan. 1991 pa nagstart ung pageant nila as Reina Sudamerica (Queen South America) pero pinalitan nila para makasali lahat ng Hispanic American Nations sa Caribbean at North at Central America. Spain is the only country invited to join the pageant outside the Americas and Philippines is the second one. Actually, magaganda mga candidates nila kasi mga runners up sa Miss Universe Franchise sa Latin America. Adriana Vasini, Sorodj Bertin, Romina Rocamonje are among the past winners.

At first, I was surprised of the Hispanoamerica title.
But if you think about it Mexico has competed in several “Asian-Pacific” pageants in the past, so why not send a Filipina delegate, which the Philippines share 333 years of a historical Hispanic legacy to compete with the Latinas?
Many educated Latinos still view the Philippines as their cultural cousins in Asia anyways.

I just have to chime in here. Sorry, but most Latinos do not consider Filipinos to be cultural cousins. More than anything, 99% of Filipinos cannot carry a basic conversation in Spanish. Try going to a Latin country and passing yourself to be “Latin-cousined” without speaking a lick of the language. No offense, but it won’t happen.
I know some Filipinos want to pretend we are all distant relatives of the likes of Osmel Sousa but enough of the colonial mentality.
Having a Spanish surname is not enough. It saddens me how many Filipinos don’t even know about the Claveria Decree. Even more saddening when some insist they are “part-Spanish” because of their last name and because they had a “light-skinned” great-great-great grand lolo or lola (especially when they are 5’0, browner than wood, and have a nose so flat you can’t even see where the bridge ends and starts).
Have some pride.
That being said, educated Latinos are inclined to pass themselves off as having European roots so the colonial mentality is alive and well.

However, I am not talking about biological features, nor the ability or inabaility to conduct a conversation in the Spanish language. The idea is more to focus and build on the similarities of “cultural” “social” and ” religious” patterns that the Spanish legacy (both negative and positive) left behind.
China and India are both nothing alike. They differ in language, political practices, historical development and for the most part race. However, both are distinctively Asian due to their common geographical location.
When one thinks of Mexico, one does not think of Asian or Pacific Islander. The fact that Mexico’s western border is the Pacific Ocean qualifies them to compete in Asian-Pacific pageants as they have in recent years.
Globalization builds on common ground yet celebrates distinct differences.
If this is a small thread to acknowledge a common ground with Latin America, then so be it. Let a Filipina conquer Latin America too! Lol

The term, here in the States, defines gang members, teenage pregnancies, illegal status, chronic high school drop outs rates and illiteracy. In addition, their countries of origin havd stereotypally corrupt and unstable governments, uneducated masses, agriculatural economies, and societies not saavy in technological advancment.

I do agree with the effects of the decree of former Governador-general Narciso Cleveria… but I understand where Saluda Chang is coming from… Although, the Philippines was too far so the Spanish crown commissioned the Philippine government administration to the Viceroyalty of New Spain, which is currently Mexico for more than 200 years, In 1815 the insurgent movements in Santa Ana(Mexico) led to their independence which made our country directly ruled by Spain. To reinforce the colonization of the islands and to supress the growing power of the Principalia hence the Claveria decree was implemented… But for the past 333 years of Spanish colonization, the Lingua Franca of majority of schools and church was Castillan Spanish like how most of us are fluent in English today. Spanish was a 2nd/3rd language even during the American era and it was only constitutionaly removed in 1973 but after a few months it was re-designated an official language by presidential decree and remained official until 1987, when the present Constitution removed its official status, designating it instead as an optional language.
Regardless of the language, it is our Christian faith that created our strong cultural ties with other former Spanish colonies.
Hahaha you made some great points buddy!!! I hate it when some pilipinos would consider themselves part Spanish just because they have Spanish last name! Not all Pilipinos have Spanish blood and those who obviously do not have any Spanish biological features and yet insist that they have some Spanish in them, are just being ignorant and in complete denial!!!

uhmm, i have to disagree, in some sense. there’s a lot of similarity between latin american and filipino culture. religious (catholic), family centered, siesta, some foods, that warmth shared with other people. in some aspects more similar to latin america than southeast asian countires.
if it’s the spanish language you are asking about, spanish was spoken more before the americans came in. as far as physical attributes, i know some filipino-americans who could easily be mistaken as latin and i know same latin americans who could be mistaken as filipinos as well (not a lot though).
OMG, ‘browner than wood’ that made me laugh out so loud…not a student of history nor of geography but proud of the fact that Filipinos are unique in the sense that we’re actually an amalgam of everything- yes, throw everything in there if you will- the Latin temperament, the American crassness, the Chinese superstitiousness….we are everything and not just one thing….it’s a liability as well as a strength…but make no mistake; we will soldier on (and win more beauty crowns!)

it is sort of a stretch but reina hispanoamericana having a filipina candidate emphasizes the “hispano” (spanish) part with some disregard to the “americana” part. although, it is as not as strong
now, the influence of spain/mexico is still apparent in some aspects of the filipino culture, architecture, religion, food, some words borrowed form the spanish language etc…in this sense it’s more of a shared history/culture to be included in that pageant.
i do think that the filipina candidate sent to the pageant should at least be conversant in spanish or even better yet, fluent.
incidentally, at the los angeles county museum of art, in their art of the americas/latin american wing;. there are at least five pieces that has philippine provenance. 2 as i remember were mother of pearl covered chests and some chairs and 3 carved ivory religious figures (attributed to a chinese filipino sculptor)…some pieces say either filipino or peruvian school. which basically points out that during this particular time the philippines was very much a part of the spanish empire.

Living in the Los Angeles area, where multitudes of Mexicans and Central Americans reside, one can experience firsthand experience the cultural similarities between the Filipino and Latino Americans.
You also know that a great number of Mexicans and Central Americans are indigenous (or have strong indigenous features) and are “very” brown skinned.

Justgrc has a point too. I hate it when pinoys on tv or at work say ‘I’m from the Philippines but I’m part Chinese and part Spanish” . They feel like they need an excuse every time they say they’re from the Philippines. Shameless! Unless they look like Robin Ruffa or Charlene…or they have concrete proof of their Chinese or Spanish lineage , they should never ever claim anything like that . God, the people around them can see for themselves.

I too live in California so I understand the similarities. I have a good friend with whom I have lived countless hours of pretending we were Misses Mexico and Philippines. He’s Ximena and thankfully now I can be Pia 🙂 Yeah, Americans don’t give a rat’s toosh about pageants.
I will say Californians are a different breed though because we are fortunate to live in such a melting pot.
Go to less diverse places (Florida even) or Latin America or Spain and you’ll see differently is all I am saying. And I do think their is some colonial mentality involved in the notion that we are the Latin cousins of Asia and even some disdain for other Asian brothers and sisters.

mas ok sana kung ang idagdag eh ung may mga pageant na may world. like miss world tourism. top model of the world etc etc. para hinde nalayo sa name ng pageant. pero hayaan na kung nagdagdag at kung bakit yan ang dinagdag. at least may chance ang iba na maexperience ang mag represent sa ibang bansa. dahil kadalasan sa kanila once lang gusto sumali sa pageant so sayang naman kung runner up lang at walang lalabanan internationaly. so ngayon imbes na runner up si ganito ganire eh may crown sya at irerepresent ang bansa internationally.
Hay naku mga vhaks…hayaan sa totolang.rta din naman kayo sa mga pambato natin sa lower tier paants.
I mean, susuportahan nyo pa rin din naman ang ating mga candidates sa lower tier pageants…
Push lang ng push… Good strategy for them to give multiple titles. Why? It gives the girls more chances of representing the country in those competitions. Kahit lower tier pageant lang ok na din. They get to travel and see the world at least and make new friends. Finally they modeled the competition per the actual pageant. Another good move. Now what to expect for Mr World?

The addition of less-known beauty titles in the Ms. World Philippines selection for me somehow diminishes it’s branding. Masyado ng maraming titles na small time naman. It’s as if saying to Bb Pilipinas, “may apat na titles kayo?…pwes..may apat din kami!!” Somehow it cheapens the pageant by adding these Consuelo de bobo titles (o ayan ha…di kayo lahat uuwi ng luhaan…)
