  1. I want to see the Mindanao textile gowns this year. Norman please suggest to BBPCI that every year should be a themed National Costume event to showcase variety of culture and traditions of our beautiful country.

  3. This should be worn by a tall candidate and I don’t care who’s who. Yawwwnnnn!!!
    That’s all bye!

  4. I love it. this is super intricately made. I don’t know why are you guys complaining sa mga Filipiniana. yan ang tatak filipina e. i know gusto nio lang maiba. but hindi ako mapapagod makakita ng filipiniana as long as modern, intricately made, magandang concept. i tabi mo yan sa international pageant, sure na ikaw lang ang may ganyang suot.

Gusto nio puro festivals, feathers.. eh sila DR, Nicaragua, paraguay and etc nga pag pinagtabi mo, halos same lang ang datingan.

mas gusto ko na tong mga filipiniana kesa ynug suot na natcos ni Joanna Eden. it was beautiful but lackluster. sorry 🙂

    • @ MrManila : Good afternoon/morning/evening.

I agree with the need to come up with a silhouette that will be UNIQUE so that a foreigner unschooled in costume history will IMMEDIATELY say, “Filipino”, upon seeing the garb.

My concern is with the INTRICACY. It may no longer be noticed by the audience, and it will certainly NO longer be picked up by the camera UNLESS it is featured in-depth in a separate segment of the show. Focus instead on SHAPE, COLOR, and THEME. Aniporn Chalemburawanong’s “tuktuk” NatCos will be remembered…

Having said that, I am NOT very enthused by the intricacy of Indonesian NatCos either, it being on at least three orders of magnitude higher than anything we Filipinos can ever manage! I scrutinize for SHAPE, COLOR, and THEME. See above. Few would bother with design elements rendered in painful detail. That is SO O.C.

Filipiniana is as visually GORGEOUS as the history and conventions that go with it, from the sourcing of fabrics to the final fitting on to the client’s frame. But it may also be worth exploring other traditions – Pre-Colonial, Avante-Garde (like Imelda Scweighart’s “Philippine Eagle-meets-Transformers” confection at Miss Earth 2016), ethnic, etc. – if only to educate and delight young and old alike while showing the FULL DIVERSITY OF POSSIBILITIES when it comes to answering the question, “You guys actually wear that?!”. NATCOS is LOVE. 🙂

  5. KC Concepcion to host Binibining Pilipinas 2017

    by Pageanthology 101- Tuesday, March 28, 2017

Philippine Actress/TV Host KC Concepcion will be hosting Binibining Pilipinas pageant for the third time around!

In an interview, Sharon Cuneta’s daughter KC revealed that she has been handpicked by the BPCI to return as a host for the 54th edition of the Binibining Pilipinas 2017 pageant.

The country’s most prestigious beauty pageant, Bb. Pilipinas will be held in April at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City.

KC, currently a National Ambassador Against Hunger of the United Nations’ World Food Programme, hosted the pageant in 2016 with actor Xian Lim. She also hosted the Bb. Pilipinas in 2011 with Derek Ramsay, Precious Lara Quigaman, and Miriam Quiambao.

Mariel.

  6. wow this natcos is lovely! i love it ❤ sana maisuot ito sa international pageant! 🙂
i really don't mind if our reps wear "filipiniana" (or to be more specific terno/maria clara) every year sa mga international pageants as long na it's been tweak, "modernize", or incorporated with something filipino-icon or landmark-like the jeepney or mayon volcano or banaue terraces or the baroque church of miag-ao/paoay… yung kahit na parating terno/maria clara basta every year e nagbabago naman ang design at kulay, parang japan at korea, ilang beses na bang nanalo bilang natcos ang kimono at hanbok nila? 🙂

    • @ Gemma : Good afternoon/morning/evening.

      Good point!

Over at Puteri 2017, one of the candidates attached orang-utan stuffed toys around herself in what is probably the most amusing and charming NatCos this year in the OCEAN OF INTRICACY for which Indonesian pageantry is acclaimed. Visit UniCrown’s fanpage to see for yourselves!

Mariel de Leon wearing nothing in her birthday suite representing the National Food, she is carrying herself in a bamboo pole adorn on her mouth by a apple, ganern!!!
