I can still remember the final screening of Bb. Pilipinas 2017 late last month when one of the applicants who impressed the panel was Nelda Ibe who is now your Binibini 18. Here is a beautiful lass from Tarlac who just completed her first solo flight as a cadet pilot. The questions flew from all corners checking on the veracity of her knowledge about the subject of aircraft and flying. She aced all queries without batting an eyelash. She definitely knows her planes.
But enough of that for now. I present to you the lady hashtagged by her fans and supporters as #PilotBeautyQueen.
“I’m Nelda Ibe, 23 years old from Tarlac City. I am currently a Cadet Pilot in Alpha Aviation Group. Prior to flying, I have also earned my degree at Tarlac State University which is Bachelor of Arts in English major in Literature. I know it’s really far from what I’ve learned in college but that’s what makes it challenging. I’d like to go beyond what’s normal, to show people what’s real, given the fact that being a pilot is a male -dominated profession.
Being determined, focused, fearless and goal-oriented are just some of the personality traits that best describe me. Without these qualities, I won’t be where I am right now. And modesty-aside, there are only few female pilots today. It gives me strength and optimism of what a Pilot Beauty Queen should be in the future. But aside from these, being humble and low-profile is always on my list.
To be a Binibini for the first time makes me feel excited with all the activities and future happenings within the duration of the pageant. I always look forward to all the charity events because it feels good to see that I am able to reach other people’s lives in my own simple ways. Ofcourse, I really have to prepare physically, mentally and emotionally because I am here to compete with all the girls, win a crown and be an inspiration. The pressure is there, but it won’t stop me from enjoying what I do. The society’s expectation has already been a dictation, but I won’t let that change me for being real. It’s hard to be a binibini, but it is harder to pretend who you are not just to please everybody.”
I have to admit that Nelda is one Binibini I am personally cheering for in the competition. There is a unique quality in her that you can only see and appreciate after several personal encounters and talks. Her beauty shines effortlessly, in my opinion.
Here is her video intro and Q&A for Bb. Pilipinas 2017 now.
