From Northern Samar, here’s your Binibini 3 Maria Gail Devora Tobes

I know that some of you have been waiting for Binibini 3 to be featured as an Official Candidate of Bb. Pilipinas 2017, so here she is! The schedules these past few days were nothing short of taxing for the ladies – endless photoshoots, video interview tapings and fulfillment of all requirements. Gladly, this vet from Northern Samar found time a couple of hours back for this feature.

Straight from the beauty herself:

“I’m Maria Gail Devora Tobes, 22 years old from Northern Samar. I am the 6th of seven (7) siblings, and our names all have the initial “G”. I always use my middle name because when I was a child, I envied my classmates who had long names hahaha 😂. Now, I just want to acknowledge both of my parents with my achievements. And that’s why I always give emphasis to their surnames.

I am a career-driven and determined person, such that I always try not to stop with failures, even if I have to do something all over again. I am a Licensed Veterinarian who graduated Cum Laude at the University of Eastern Philippines. I started joining beauty pageants when I was 17, and was crowned Ms. Northern Samar 2012. Recently, I bequeathed my Ms. National SCUAA crown, hoping to have “another one” – a bigger title hopefully.

Now that I am one of the Official Candidates of Binibining Pilipinas 2017, I am really praying and working hard to notch another achievement.


I want to share that I was the last one to be called for the Top 40. Do you know how that felt for me? I was literally shaking, knowing that I’m the last Aces & Queens girl that hasn’t been called up yet and its just one last spot left. I was even afraid to turn my head and see who the other girls are, waiting and hoping to have that spot. There was a side telling me that I am the one who’s in, but I can’t deny that I did try in that moment to force myself to accept that chances were 50/50. My remaining competitors were all strong and beautiful women. My mind kept praying and asking “What am i gonna do??? Please God let me in! I really dont know what im gonna do and feel after, if I won’t make it!” I kept repeating “Please! Please! Please!”. And then after a long minute of suspense…taaadaaaa!!! “Binibini #14 MARIA GAIL DEVORA TOBES!” It felt like I already won that time. I was at the center with everyone applauding.”

There is something delightfully quirky about Maria Gail Tobes. She has this personality that is quite endearing because of the unique encounters in her life and the way she sees things through a mix of rose-and-grey colored lenses. And it is that quality that could work to her advantage at this point. I’m not sure how far up the ladder yet. But I can feel that she will shine on her own merits.

  2. Was disappointed with her web interview. Prolly i was expecting her to be articulate but oh well. For now, my top picks are: Elima, M De Leon, Peters and Sutton in that order. Katarina is gorgeous but her body needs work. Ayun lang. K thanks, bye 😻

    Mariel de Leon is overrated. She is not actually fat but a big-boned woman. No exercise nor a diet could make her look slim unless there is a new scientific innovation that can trim down bones. When the crazy gods poured jaw lines on the universe, Mariel was there all day all night kaya sumobra ang panga. No wonder palaging takip mukha lang ang hairstyle.

    • Brutally true! Malaki Kasi “frame” ni ate to put in scientific context. Malaking bulas which she got from her German genes. But that doesn’t mean she’s not worthy for any crown. Kung babalik SA bansang Aleman any MIC yun sana Ang magandang korona SA kanya. Then a year after sali siya ng MWP para magamit Niya Yung talent Niya as opera singer. Dream ko sa kanya maging ala-Lara Dutta or Jacqueline Aguilera siya.

    • well, i comment b4 pa man na sana sa MWP sya sumali since she has one of the amazing talent that can help her to win best in talent or at least runner up para magkaroon ng points sa semifinalist sa MW. mas ok talaga if we will send someone with amazing talent. its a plus. Second, her bones as jeremi said is true. look at rolene strauss. But she decided to join bbp instead.
      But give it to Aces and Queens and John Cuay to shapen up her body into perfect form base on IMG taste. Kung bones ang problem sa kanya babawi naman sila sa ibang paraan just to achieve the perfect goals for her body. kahit magkaiba ng case yung kay Pia. we can still use Pia as inspiration and as evidence of A&Q that can transform our queen into more sexy, healthy and fit physicaly. and dont forget re branded na ang MU. Mariel is not my choice as MUP but if she wins. support pa rin syempre. Pero as of now i cant see the spark in her eyes. a spark that will please me, saying that “I am a Miss Universe”. But shes on my list as bbp universe. pwede ko syang iangat sa list ko but first she need to show me my expectation on her final look and performance.

    C Tobes pala yung nagagandahan ako sa pic nya pero diko sinali sa Top 15 ko kasi akala ko ganda lang meron sya at kulang pa sa height pero nasa list ko naman sya sa puedeng hahabol sa Top 15 hihihi

    Gusto ko syang manalo ng crown but not now.

Pero pwede siya sa Miss International kung palarin. Magaling rin naman sumagot, practice lang at training pashowk na sa bangga si mamang. And no! no! no! no way! The crown will not fall on Jehza’s head, dahil ayon sa aking chismuckers na insider, si Katarina “Cara Delevingne impersonator, gaya-gaya from mannerism(na inaral) to peke thick eyebrows na from manipis biglang kumapal(to copy her idowl Cara)” Rodriguesh ang second in line sa mahiwagang korona. ☺️

Kaloka, kung may mga nagkulang eto naman nasobrahan😂. Mag4M lang siya at pasok na sa banga si pretty, classy girl. Eyniways, siya na daw ang itinakda ni Madam Cory Vidaneshh. Pansin niyo ba since 2015 lahat daw ng MUP winners ay may connection sa channel DOS at ⭐️+🎩🐰✨? Coincidence? Wala na raw tayong magagawa dahil ang may say kung sino ang magiging MUP ay ang kaiisa-isang Madam Cory V. Ang mga “Cory” lang daw ang may “K” na mag-handpick ng winners. Just Like Cory Q (na may obsession sa mga halfies dahil sila ang always nag-represent sa MWP.)

GOrgeous girl but raw still if reports are true that she fidgety on her speaking skills. i hope she gets a runnerup since i want her to be our MU rep in the future. shes too soon for a maxene clone. i know she would use this experience to be the best version of herself in the next edition. elima is too pretty to be wasted same goes with the two deleons. this batch is indeed not weak. i really cant with all the gorgeous ladies including the very voluptious rachel peters who i dont mind winning a crown.

  11. Chameleon beauty! Her image changes in every angle! Some says Amanda Page look a like. She’s more of Rizza Santos for me. After watching her mock interview, I’ll eliminate her as alternate for MUP crown. Nevertheless, if she will show consistency, MI would suit her best. My outlook still the same:

    MUP – Dindi (alt: Calingo)
    MGI – Calingo
    MS – Sirene (alt: Ruffa)

    This is getting exciting! The mold of the girls are starting to form.

  13. Kamukha nya ng konti si miss grand thailand 2016, esp with her updo hairstyle. Chika lang. Bali-balita kung bakit walang cebuana rep this year eh umiiwas dw muna sila kay mother camp dahil mag sswitch dw to in the future, kaya lie-low muna sila.

  15. I like her but since she isn’t considered a favorite I will consider her a dark horse. A beauty that is a hybrid of Maxine and Miriam Quiambao. Exquisite and elegant, she can only go up from here. I feel like it would be an Elima-Sutton fight for MUP at the moment.

  17. Have you guys seen the official videos? It’s safe to say, it basically determines the girls most likely to go forward with the better chances. Some surprises, a few disappointments. But since this post is about Gai Tobes, let’s start with her- her vid proves her to be a raw ‘probinsyana’ with an amazing face, a commanding stance and a great future (thank God she’s only 22). She has that authenticity and sincerity so reminiscent of Miriam Quiambao and Janine Tugonon. We’re not looking for someone super polished or mega-fluent, but a few years will certainly help buttress her confidence a bit more and allow her to be more at ease and assured with how she presents herself. I’ve initially pegged her as my top pick for MU but I agree with @AnaWinter that a runner-up finish or a semis placement will do her more good- and for us as well- because we have here that rare girl with an unquestionably great physicality and a personality we can root for.

    The surprises:
    Mariel De Leon- the girl looks ravishing in that attractive zone between youth and adulthood. Speaks ably. All she needs to do is be convincing on finals night and she will get a crown- the top one.

    Charmaine Elima- gurl did her homework and the mark is A+. Reminds me of Venus Raj, but somehow shorter physically. If she gets MUP, it will be Ada De La Cruz of DR 2.0.

    Nelda Ibe- she’s so gorgeous with the most perfect set of shoulders I have seen on a woman and it’s weird because I keep picturing the Miss United Continents Crown on her head..

    Sirene Sutton- I can see why fans love her, but she needs a tall glass of cold Milo (no energy drinks please)- gurl needs some energy!!

    Rachel Peters- everything this time around, is just right or as they say in Tagalog, ‘tamang timpla’

    Elizabeth Clenci- girl can talk; she just needs to shine a bit more

    The Disappointments:
    Angelique De Leon; can talk her mouth off but I can’t help feel a bit deceived that now, sporting a more au naturel look, she looks like a totally different person from the last time she joined and that the other person looked way better.

    Arienne Calingo; the focus on her credentials has become a tad annoying and with her immediate family members being quite active on social media jostling in with the fans, you tend to shy off from making the usual objective remark- careful, you might offend mommy and ate who think of her as possibly the next great thing after a cure for cancer. Sadly, a beauty pageant is still primarily about beauty the last time we checked, and while she is charming and eloquent, she is outflanked by a great number of girls with far prettier faces who feel comfortable with a non-Georgetown U degree thank you very much.

    Jehza Huelar- she didn’t get new veneers or a nose yet somehow gives off the vibe that she is still trying to get used to her new looks.

    Looking out for:
    Katarina Rodriguez- love her, but the eyebrow situation lol..it’s all you see when she starts talking

    Gabriela Ortega- totally Pinay yet looks stunningly Iberian..gorgeous..but there’s something wrong with the way she moves- shoulders hunched, belly forward- as if she inhabits a body a size smaller than it’s meant to be.

    • I also disagree with your assessment of Jezha. She has more “volume” in terms of her looks and i think she can be a perfect Miss International representative.

      • I actually have her pegged for MI @4M; hopefully, she’ll relax a bit..it’s just one video after all and I assume her handlers are always on the look-out on ways to improving her performance heading towards the finals

    • Watched all videos as well and I loved these three:

      Mariel de Leon – Class act! She’s so beautiful! She actually sounds like Shamcey when she talks. The only problem I can see is her big frame – but she’s still able to exude sexiness!

      Gabriela Ortega – I agree on the problem with her posture and gestures. On the other hand, the girl is pretty! While watching, I suddenly imagined our Miss U bet answering her final question in Spanish beside a pinoy interpreter! 🙂

      Chanel Thomas – The accent! Her feautures can be polarizing but the girl is ready in all aspects! Complaining about her belly in some of her pictures? Look at most of the other candidates. I’m sure though that they’re working hard to tone their bods 🙂

    • I agree with most of your comments. Sirene needs more energy. I was disappointed with her video, considering that she was hyped so much. The focus on Arienne’s educational background is annoying and her family members commenting everywhere that she is the one to beat is annoying. Dati pa yan nung MWP, on Facebook and Instagram. Pwede namang mag-support but have some humility! I was pleasantly surprised with Binibini 1 Dane. Ang sarap niya tingnan at pakinggan. She is so charming and she gave a great answer. I hope she steals a crown! Another video that I liked was Maine’s. She came prepared this time. She is super ready! I hope she sustains it until the finals.

    • Andrew, same views on Calingo. After awhile Hindi na ako impressed – medyo off na sakin na naka focus sa credentials. Ang counterpart nya last year so Nicole pero mas warm at bakla si Nicole kaya endearing.

      Ortega is too animated – she needs to sprinkle a bit of Milo on Sirene. Mabuti na independent si Sirene sa totoo lang.

      Rachel is still too lutang for me but … I like her this time around.

      Hindi mo masyado bet si Angelique I know pero super mabenta sya same IG. Kung ano many pagka fresh yang ginawa nya same sarili nya natural man o mahika – I’ll take it! For me she’s perfect for MGI.

      Elima – I hope I don’t step on people’s toes here but she lacks gravitas. Beautiful human being pero siguro masyado lang simple for me pag nagsasalita. Iba Kase Yung pagka commanding Ni Pia.

      Tobes – na disappoint ako not because nagkalat sya but because may preconceived notion ako on how someone with such features should talk. In short – ako Ang problema. I need to step out of my comfort zone and be more accepting of regional accents. Pareho sila Ni Dindi ng issue.

      I like Dane. Kase she’s rich hahaha charot! Pero super umaariba sya now! 😂😂😂

      • I may have missed this girl Dane lol…and that is exactly the word Lai; a certain lack of gravitas- sure, anyone can learn anything, but never mistake information for wisdom otherwise, you’d be in major, major trouble lol

  18. The way this girl described her feelings when she was called as the last qualifier is surreal. I was once on her shoes and, boy, beating the remaining best is already a tough achievement! I remember Shamcey Supsup was also the last girl called in her batch. So, is this a save-the-girl-for-last fate for Gail, dear readers? Hihihi! Well, early congratulations for Gail is in order.

    As to her chances clinching a BbP crown, by the looks of it, Gail can potentially run away with one. That is unless Madame Stella reserves the best crown for her, so a runner-up finish would suit her for the meantime a la Angelica Alita. After all, she is still young and has a lot to improve physically! Well, whatever deserves Gail, I wish her stars would best align come the coronation night. Good luck, girl!
