Is Mariel de Leon ready to join again?

By now, we can start discussing about Maria Angelica de Leon aka Mariel de Leon without constantly associating the name with her showbiz parents. She deserves to have her own identity because Bb. Pilipinas 2017 could be her second foray into the nationals.

Mariel’s photos in this feature were all taken by my coverage partner Joy Arguil from the Pre-Miss Universe MAC Workshop that we attended at the cosmetic brand’s HQs at 8 Rockwell. And you can see how well MUA Gery Penaso has transformed her face into a glowing work of art. And she can only return the compliment with a smile that tells us that she is ready for a return to Araneta Coliseum.

Get ready for a whole lot of Mariel de Leon 2.0


Honestly, you need to experience Mariel as a person and in person to be able to appreciate the totality of her potentials as a beauty queen – those square-ish jawlines that distract some. Those facial moles that get mixed reviews from the rest. And the figure that prompts more than a few to suggest more fitness training with John Cuay. She will do her homework. Just you wait and see. A lot can be done in more than a month’s time (the photos here were taken last January 11). She will show up at the BPCI Office on or before February 24.

  6. Mariel could be a strong contender. Classy din ang dating nya, studied abroad and is an opera singer. She can speak conversational English and she is well spoken. Sandy Andolong must have raised her well. That jawline is an asset. Maxine was bashed for having a wide face but look how she transformed herself. And also ang timbang pwedeng bawasan pero ang utak di puedeng dagdagan. #MDL4MUP

    • opera singer? wow. so may talent pala sya. so mas maganda sa MW nalang sya ilagay. she could be the ist MW na ganyan ang katawan. correct me if meron ng nanalo na mataba sa MW. wala na naman SS at EG competition sa MW. FT ang challenge to become a semifinalist. she can win BWAP, talent, multimedia kahit mataba sya. since nasa A&Q sya i think pasok din sa top model. and mas hinahanap nila is sincerity so pasok yan gayahin nya style ni Miss Canada. Mas ok na din na sa MW sya sumali since may ilang months pa para sa gym whether she want to compete fat or not. Pero im sure makakuha man sya ng crown sa bbp. hinde yan pababayaan ni mama j sa pagpa papayat. Pero she has the beauty and brain.

    • Truelaloo Dawn. Now na naglalabasan mga throwback photos nila nung BBP screening ang laki talaga ng pinagbago ng pagka chiseled ni Max. With this girl – she just needs to lose some weight. Malaki pa rin kase rehistro nya sa camera.

  8. I’m changing my tune on this girl . Looking at the pics more intently ( @ bong , tse hihihi) , I think she may have a shot at MU. She has a very clear face and Her comm skills are good . And with her drive , she can be in shape in no time

    But I would still go for Laura then Lorraine in that order

  11. Kung nagawa ni Ms. Universe Canada 2016 na makapasok sa patimpalak bakit hindi. Ipinakita at ipinagmalaki ni Ms. Universe Canada 2016 na nakasama sa Top 9 kahit anong korte ng iyong katawan ay puwede sa patimpalak. Kung gusto ni Ms. Deleon na sumali bakit hindi. May utak at mukha na puwedeng ipagyabang.

    • Miss Q, Mariel is not Miss Canada at may napatunayan na c Miss Canada sa Beauty Pageant kaya nag-iba sya ng pinaglalaban kc may credible backgraound na si Canada to believe on what she is fighting for 🙂

    • I have reservations about Miss Canada. She was quite lean and toned during her Miss Supranational stint, plus she was also lean when she won Miss Canada. Mukhang tinamad lang yan mag-diet at mag-workout for Miss U, which is why she reinvented herself as a sort of “plus-size” advocate.

      • I don’t think she used her brain . She could have won instead of France if she was in shape

      • Same here. though I still support her ‘advocacy’ but. mas mapa-proud ako if nanalo siya as MUCanada ng plus size siya. pero hindi e. sobrang fit siya nung nanalo siya, tas nag gain siya. matalino lang na ginamit niya yun as her advocacy.

      • Ang tanong can she keep that shape?

        What does it say to the MU org? Kung lalaban ka ng miss universe kakain ka nalang?

        I mean anong klaseng training ginawa nya para ma achieve yan? Nag gym ba sya to bulk up or lumamon kase naubusan na ng oras mag prepare? 😒

    • Doble yung braso nya sa mga girls sa pic. Her face is as huge as Nadia M. Sana mag lose weight para mas madefine yung ganda nya. Kasi may ganda na, brains at breeding, idagdag pa yung credentials. Work on that bod, it’s her 2nd attempt. Push pa more Hija.

  18. beautiful face.. but if she really want it she should do her best to be fit before the bb activities. kaya siguro in 3 months

    • I like it! I imagined Sushmita Sen wearing it. I dunno why. Lol

      Looks sooo much better than the current crowns.

    • hoping na true ang chismis na they will change their crown this year. mismo this year ipapatong na sa bagong reyna ang bagong korona ng bawat queens. in short dapat gawa na. baka kase gagawin pa lang this year at next year pa gagamitin. kung yan man ang design ng bagong crown ok na din much better than current crown. sana kahit MU at MI crown lang palitan ok na. pero mas maganda lahat ng crown palitan but i doubt it na pati ung mga minor title palitan ng crown. dahil kung un ngang current bbp universe crown umabot ng 10 years. so i am expecting at least 3 crowns palitan nila MU, MI at supra or MGI and sana may kulay. ok din kung puro perlas yan lang ng kulay ang design itulad sa original crown ng bawat pageant gamit ang perlas.

  22. I’m a fan of Mariel de Leon. I’m a believer and my only advise is tibayan nya sikmura nya dahil nakikita ko na ma-bash ng todo but I truly think she can be a top contender for MUP.

  23. Mariel will be a hit in Miss Universe. That prominent jaw is actually an asset and that makes her fragile unique. And let’s just wait for the Boracay summa cum laude lass and parttime dj 5’10 Martha Baruray who has been training under a Visayas modelling camp. the two ladies are ready to face formidable candidates.

    But I like her enthusiasm
    She or her family won’t be happy unless she gets MUP.

    My choices for MUP right now: Laura then Lorraine K. The latter is very pretty and has proven to be a great communicator. The problem is her handler/s.

  25. She should try to go for plus size . Do what miss Canada did. Go all out and gain weight . That will set her apart . First plus size BB! Sugod sa buffet!

  29. maganda naman sya. maybe pia is her inspiration. since pia competed last 2015 na malake ang katawan. pero mas hebigat yata itong si mariel. lets see if that looks and body will make her standout come bbp 2017. i like someone who has strong awra facially and body, captivating smile and eyes and a good conversationalist.

  30. Ewan ko ba sa tagal na at alam naman nila na sasali sila this year pero di pa rin sila nagtraining at naghanda ng bongga.
    Ang ibig ba nilang sabihin na bigyan muna ng korona bago magdouble time ng training at makuha ang tamang shape for the internat’l competition.
    Ang nakita ko na may disiplina ay c Wyn2 dahil seryoso talaga sya at makita mo yung pagkauhaw nya na manalo pero di nga lang pinalad.
    Sana 5’8 c wyn2 ay sali ulit sya hihihi.

  32. she can express herself well but she really has to tone her body , lose a lot of weight … maybe then she can represent in MU as top 6 or top 3. We should be relentless in picking our MU rep to be either top 6 or top 3 every year.

    If she cannot transform her body, she is fine for International or even Miss World or Earth.

      • i see meagan young a little bit in her pic above wearing a 2 piece. she looks beautiful, very pinay and gorgeous. matangkad, sexy. mukhang ok sya sa comm skills dept. Feel mo ang puso nya. Pero mahigpit si sma sa residency at mga sexy photos na ala kim and olafson. A&Q should know that. baka masaktan lang yan like kim and olafson. Dapat alam nila kung may photos ba sya na hinde maganda sa mata ni madamme. But this girl is IN.
