There are malicious stories spreading in the pageant world that Jonas Gaffud of Aces & Queens allegedly “walked out” of the Theater at MGM National Harbor after Miss Puerto Rico Stephanie Del Valle was announced as the winner of Miss World 2016. It’s so easy to make stories and bold interpretations of something that can never hold water when faced with real facts.

Truth be told, Jonas Gaffud himself confirmed that he was inside the theater the entire time after the winner was crowned. He was in the company of another Aces & Queens pillar, Arnold Mercado. He even went up the stage to have pictures taken with the winners and Julia Morley (with whom he had a small talk with).

Afterwards, a security guy approached him because Megan Young needed her mobile phone. And since he volunteered to hold on to her unit for safety while the Finals was ongoing, he then stepped out and went backstage to hand over Miss World 2013 the phone.

And here is where talks of an alleged “walkout” started. Totally untrue. There is really nothing into this except to spread lies of hate and lack of sportsmanship – something that Jonas will not even entertain thoughts of doing.

So whoever started the whole thing, please check your facts first. Better yet, you could have followed Jonas when he went backstage to give Megan her phone. You would have gotten a clearer flow of events instead of putting one-and-one together and weaving an entirely different version out of it.

  2. Ngayon ko lang napag tanto na baka nga mali ang bravery na sabi ni cat, thus the rest justification is perrfect. Hindi nila siguro natipuhan ang bravery! What if love or loving yong naisagot ni cat kasi character yong tanong kaya tricky ang pag sagot nya nga bravery. Yan lang ang nakita ko. But i would agree na kahit bravery ang sabi nya 2nd runner up is the least cat should get. But again another factor baka hindi lang din sa pageant finals performance ang pinag basehan, baka mas nakita ng MWO na mas angat ang winners compare kay cat in terms of heart and attitude sa mga pre pageant activities. Kasi yan ang mga bagay na hindi natin nakita at alam… We need to move on and be back next year stronger!

    • If you would analyze Cat’s answer, she mentioned, expressly or impliedly, three qualities – bravery, dedication and readiness to face the challenges that comes with the title. If Q and A ang pagbabasehan, she would place 2nd the least. Indonesia, last. If overall performance, she and Indonesia would be the Top 2. Puerto Rico and DR bottom 2. In no way can you justify the Top 3 ranking. Please. The travesty was clear. Eto yung, damn if you, damn if you don’t moment ni Madam Julia. Hahays.

    • So gusto ng MW yung duwag? I like her answer. You need to be brave to get out of your comfort zone to make a difference. She may not have won the blue crown of this corrupt pageant but she is the best MWP ever.

    • My main complaint about the whole thing was that they did not explicitly stated how the girls were judged to pick the top 10. I think they used the Megan interview to pick the top 5 but to be honest I thought it was just a casual interview. In short, sobrang confusing ang judging last Sunday. Walang basehan. Indonesia can never use the excuse that Indo won BWAP and second in Top Model because from what I know, the scores were back to 0 after the announcement of Top 20.

  4. Looking back at the past pageants, you have to give it to Miss International and Miss Universe for being relatively fair and consistent in their winners. Miss World is definitely going down after this.

      • I think this one won’t be enough reason to stop Miss Quirino with her MWP. It’s still a business after all. And with that idea, it’s like telling the whole world that Pinoys cannot accept defeat or not sport. Life goes on and to quote Miss Quirino: “There are things beyond our control”. Most probably the effect may be on the quality and even the quantity of those candidates who would be interested to join, now that they realized how MW works. If I were a girl with the potential, I’d definitely have second thoughts trying my luck in MWP.

  6. I understand that we all feel Catriona deserved a higher placement. But even so, I’m SO proud of how she represented us–with unwavering poise and grace. We may be disappointed in the results, but I hope Catriona, and everyone who prepared her, will know that we certainly not disappointed in their efforts.

    Having said that, I think congratulations are in order for Jonas Gaffud. Under his guidance, our queens are not just contenders, but, quite often, have become the ones to beat. This has its own challenges, but I’m sure Jonas is already fine-tuning his approach to prepare our queens to rise above these challenges.

    I gotta say Francis Libiran really outdid himself with Catriona’s finals gown. This was a gown fit for a queen and it is easily my favorite of all the gowns our queens have worn in competition this year, with Kylie’s Miss International gown coming in a close second.

    I’m just focusing on positives, and doing my best to be constructive. So many of the discussions lately have been quite ugly–which I find ironic. We are all on this board because we are part of this pageant-loving community that revolves around beauty (women, gowns, hairstyles, makeup). And yet, oftentimes, our conversations have been characterized by ugliness (namecalling etc.). Perhaps we can all try harder to state our opinions with respect (to the women who represent us, to the designers who dress them, to the handlers who prepare them, the other fans–all of us–who love pageants even if at times, the responses and opinions of other fans might differ from ours).

    • Catriona, classy and positive as always, has already publicly stated that she’s doing well after the pageant. There was no breaking period for her to accept her fate since it wasn’t just a beauty contest for her but more of giving back to the community. She is more than excited to have the MWO visit and support her Paraiso project.

      Wow! She’s truly one of the greatest beauty queens that ever graced the pageant world. She is such a wonderful inspiration and role model for the youth today.

  7. Tanong: Kung hindi tayo magpadala ng kandidata next year sa 2017 MW na gagawin sa Indonesia, anong epekto nito sa atin? Magmamatter ba ang ano mang epekto nito sa atin? Sa tingin ko, kahit sinong ipadala natin next year, masasayang din lang with Indonesia as host.

    • She has to look outside the country because not many girls are interested in joining MWP.

Sigurado na yan, kakawawain lang uli ng Indo ND ang kandidata natin kahit times 10 pa ang ganda, tindig at talino nito kay Catriona. Kung ang mukhang mangga nga ay ganon-ganon na lang kung talunin ang Catriona natin, eh ano pa kaya kung sa bakuran na nila gagawin ang patimpalak.     • Nope. Magpapadala pa rin tayo ng kandidata sa Miss World next year. She has to be somebody with longest chin. Siguro papatok ‘yun sa Indonesia at ichi-cheer nila. Indonesians are chin-adorers. Kaloka.

  8. SHOCKING!!! 24 hours after Miss Cook Islands Beauty Pageant, iniwasan kong mag open ng Missosology. Sa dahilan narin na lahat ng ibat-ibang uri ng tao sa planeta ay nandoon at ramdam ko na malakas ang loob nila ngayon na mam-bully dahil nga naligwak tayo at sila ang nagwagi. Sa mga hindi nakaka alam, ang Missosology ay isang kilala at masasabi kong pinaka malaking online pageant portal sa mundo na may libo-libong local and foreign members. Iilan sa mga members nito ay malaking pagkamuhi at inggit sa ating bansa. (Lagi nalang kasi tayo ang bida. Alam mo na!)
    Pero hindi yan ang kinagulat ko ng binuksan ko ang pageant portal na ito kanina.
    Ikinawindang ko na magkabilaan ang forum mula pa kahapon tungkol kay Megan Young. Mga forum na naglalaman ng galit at pagkamuhi sa inasta ng dating Miss World winner during the pageant night at sa kanyang pakikitungo at naging opinyon sa natalong si Catriona Gray. Though hindi ko naman naramdaman o sadyang wala na kong pake sa mga kaganapan matapos ang cooking show na yan.

  10. Things like this happen . Didn’t Gloria Diaz win over the super gorgeous Miss Finland? Why? Gloria’s q&a performance wasn’t that impressive.

    Catriona’s case was different . She was the most impressive from beginning to end- both physically and otherwise . If not for the 2 ND’s who obviously pulled Cat down in favor of their own , Cat could have won . .. well she should.
    I have never been so optimistic about a candidate . I Knew Pia and Kylie had a very good chance but I Tried to be very cautious fearing it would jinx their fate.

    I know there’s no way to argue against someone with the crown on her head but I do not care.

  12. To the nobody who said PR has that MW aura, I’m sorry to burst your bubble I had a picture next to her at the coronation and even I don’t see nor feel that aura you’re talking about. She is nice and young and pretty but nothing special. One proof – parang di Kami nagkakalayo sa ganda. Lol. On the other hand, Megan Young, Miriea Lalaguna, and even Azra Akun have maintained that MW aura coz I saw how I look next to them in the pictures. Nilalamon ang ganda ko ha ha. To Laila and Jen, I didn’t even think she would go that far. She was forgettable. Sabi ko nga sa mga kasama, I’ll talk about Indonesia once they win a Big 4 crown fair and square. For now I don’t have opinions at all. At Andro, nice seeing you and chatting with you after the pageant. And MU 2016 your observations are on point. Too bad I didn’t get to meet you. Oh by the way I told Madam Cory that for next year we need to find another Catriona – a complete package.

    • @ Dawn – you being unable to comment on Indonesia only affirms what most pageant fans already know – na talagang wala siyang “K” na mapabilang kahit sa top 20 pa. Juice colored napakarami kayang mas maganda at matalino sa kaniya – Russia, Mexico just to name a couple. I still do not see how she was able to crack the top 20. Sabi nga ni Andro ” there were other factors that were considered ” Kasama na dun ang politics. And it’s very obvious. Buti Sana kung deserving in most aspects kaso hindi nga – OMG duling na lang ang magsasabi na maganda siya. Sorry I’m still ranting about the ranking of winners, Dawn. It is what it is and I will raise my case na. I’ll just congratulate Cat once again for a job well done ♡♡♡ 🙂 🙂 🙂

    • Having mixed emotions with sending a candidate of Cat’s caliber to Miss World kasi nakakaloka ang pageant na ‘to magtapon ng isang ‘well-rounded’ candidate. Secondly, this may sound a little pessimistic pero I’m not sure if we can field another Catriona in the next five years – bukod tangi talaga siya eh; there will always be “super diyosa” or “super talino” candidates pero yung combination na meron si Cat…ang hirap shet. I love and revere our Queens, but had Cat won this thing she’d easily be the best queen we’ve ever produced. Kaya kahit na mas malaking kawalan sa Miss World ang isang tulad ni Cat, talagang di rin maiiwasan ang hollow feeling ng nakakararami sa atin sa nangyari sa kanya. A candidate like Cat is quite hard to come by, kahit para ibang bansa pa.

      But, if ever we get to field a strong candidate for MW after this, siguro mas mainam na isabak na lang ‘to for 2018 or 2019 or even 2020. Parang alam ko na kasi kung sino ang panalo next year. Sayang lang.

      • Agree with you. Cat poured everything to the pageant. Hirap ng maghanap ng makakapantay sa kanya. Kahit itabi pa yan sa mga nanalo sa BBP. Overall package, she has it! From Talent to everything… hands down!

      • @hunkytraveler, exactly. She really is the most well-rounded queen we’ve ever sent to an international pageant. Universally accepted pa. It’s very telling na ‘politics’ ang nagpatalo sa kanya eh. Alam mong may desperation on the other judges’ part na hilahin siya pababa. There was NO WAY that rep from Indonesia could ever be above her kaya nga hindi na nahiyang gumamit ng magic sarap yung national director nilang babalina rin.

        Someone like Catriona takes years, or even decades to arrive. Kahit yung ibang powerhouses hirap silang mag-field ng katulad nya in their respective countries. Indonesia pa kaya, na ang kaya lang kopyahin so far ay ang katulad ni Bea Rose Santiago, and perhaps a bit of Janine Tugonon? And a lame copy at that.

        Siguro kaya pinanalo yung PR this year eh para pag nanalo yung rep ng Indo next year hindi masyado halata yung desperation nila at yung obvious DOWNGRADE that will be coming with it. Had Cat won this thing, paano pa ipagtatanggol ng Indonesia yung panalo nila next year? Hahahaha.

  13. Catriona’s loss is my biggest pageant heartbreak. I’ve never believed in a Miss Philippines as much as I believed in Cat. To me, she is every inch a beauty queen, every inch a Miss World, inside and out–beauty, intelligence, eloquence, talent, humility, and kindness. I hope that despite this, she will be rewarded somehow, in some other way, for her hard work and everything else she deserves. Maybe she will receive more success as a model? Maybe she will get another crown? I wish the best for Catriona. I will never forget her. She is still my Miss World 2016. She is the perfect beauty queen.

  16. hayssss. i was thinking pa naman na kung si Cat ang nakoronahan, we can lobby the idea that MW will be staged in the Philippines, sooner or later, but not on 2017 dahil Indonesia will host that edition. i hope that MWP2017 will surpass the characteristics of Cat, head-to-tow & inside-out, & be at par with Megan para pasaberg. kase kung downgrade eto kay Cat at kokoronahan sya ni Madam julia to appease the Pinoy fans, naku, sasabihin ko talaga kay Madam Julia kung bakit sya pa, bakit di nya binigay yung crown kay Cat. Mygaaadd, para akong batang inagawan ng lollipop sa pagkaimmature ko ngayun pero di pa rin ako maka-move on kay Cat.

    • Kung token and appeasement din lang naman ang reason kung bakit tayo mananalo in the future lalo kung hindi naman talaga deserving like Cat ang bet natin no thanks. We can win fair and square. That’s why admire Evangeline Pascual. I read somewhere that she refused the MW crown decades ago when Ms USA was dethroned. She knew she was robbed.

  18. This shows just how unpredictable pageants can be. If we welcome winning with open arms, then we should be as accommodating of other winners when things don’t go our way.

    Having said that, there should be a post-mortem to benefit the next girl. Just my .02, I think Catriona’s dress, hair, and makeup aged her. The color washed out her delicate skin, which could’ve easily accommodated vibrant jewel tones. It was obvious that the handlers played it safe and tried to relive Megan’s glory, but the effort came across as jaded.

    Having national directors as judges is a horrible idea. They’re about as partisan as they come and having two can definitely steer results.

    • It was a fraud DanDan. Don’t justify Cat’s loss. Its a travesty on the part of Ms Morley and the rest of the organization.

      This case is worse than Janine lossing to Olivia in MU 2012. Hindi naman tayo naging bitter sa mga panahon na alam natin talo tayo e.g. Venus Raj (choked in the final Q&A), Ara Arida or even Shamcey Supsup. We learned to accept Gwen’s fate as 1st R-Up kasi alam natin na neck to neck sila na Venezuela at pwede nga umangat konti ang kalaban… BUT not this one. This is different.

      So now I will say… Catriona Gray for Miss Universe Philippines 2018. Hindi pa nagsalita si Cat pero for sure hurting din yun ngayon.

    • I dont think this will work. MWO will just ignore this just how they ignore fairness yesterday. Even if the whole world sign. Quit it.

      • It might be a really long shot but hopefully if we get enough people, Morley will make some changes, no matter how small. After all, they seem to be open to changes these time around as evidenced by the slightly more entertaining production.

    • Nagustuhan agad si Kenya kasi pumasok na sa Top 5, ni hindi mo nga mamention yan before the pageant! If I know in the recession of your mind, alam mo na si Cat ang dapat manalo habang inaannounce ang winners, paduda ka pa kunwari. Your ego distorts the truth.

    • For the first time I kinda agree with kokey. I wasn’t a fan of that Libiran creation. I think A&Q tried to model Cat to Megan however the high bun style did really worked for Cat. I just wished she didn’t do it too many times as well as that pony tail looks. . I’d rather have that red wine gown she wore in MWP.

  23. I watched the pageant live and here is my quick assessment.

    My friend and I sat in the bottom right side (facing the stage). Most of the people in our area were Ana Giraults supporters (Mexicans), a few Thais, some Americans and of course, Filipinos. (We kinda sat far away from the flock of Pinoys because they were very loud). I would say the theatre was about 25% Pinoys…. which is ALOT considering Miss World is over 120+ countries. So if the Pinoys didn’t attend, the show would have been so dead. There were also alot of past pageant winners/contestants all from different pageants.

    The Mexicans were shocked when Ana Girault wasn’t part of top 20. We were too. I think Mexico is gorgeous, I just think with her natural bubbly personality, she’s in the wrong competition. She should have went to MU or any other pageants. She would have clinched Supra effortlessly. Alot of people were murmuring “Russia” after top 20 was called. By the way, Russia is Stunning in person — she has a “handsome” face. I think her age and immaturity did not work on her favor. Everyone around us seemed to know about Philippines as they kept mentioning either “Philippines” or her name “Catriona”.

    Catriona looked great on stage. Not being biased, but I thought she was flawless. From being called top 20 to top 10 to top 5. She was clearly the girl to beat. Then after the Q&A, we all thought she had it in the bag.

    When the 2nd and 1st runner was called, pretty much everyone thought Philippines got it, specially the Mexicans (My Spanish is about 30% and I can understand mostly of what they were saying). When Puerto Rico was called, everyone basically just went “what the fuck…?” And the Mexicans in front of us kept going “¿que?” (what…?)

    I would say that about 50% of the girls on stage expected Philippines to win as well. Alot of them had a confused look. But in the end, I think they were happy that an underdog like Puerto Rico won.

    Based on the final answer, without being biased, I truly believe that Philippines, Kenya and Puerto Rico gave the best answer. Indonesia’s answer was all over the place and is redundant. For someone who doesn’t know Catriona’s wit, I could see why someone would think her answer was “pageant patty”… but knowing Catriona’s wits and intelligence and without being biased, I think her answer was the most heartfelt.

    Also, I don’t mean to sound mean and evil here…. but during top 5, Indonesia looked very out of place. I understand she won BWAP…. but beauty and communication wise, she is definitely the weakest. She also looks like she has down syndrome (don’t mean to sound evil but that’s truly what she looked like in person)

    Anyways… Personally, Philippines was the real winner. Everyone around us thought that too. Her look, personality, intelligence and demeanor SCREAMS Miss World. Seriously. Not being biased at all. But somehow Julia Morley and others were looking for something different, apparently.

    Oh well. Bumawi tayo sa Miss U… Kahit hindi ako 100% kay Maxine dahil sa kanyang weak communication, koronahan na yan!! (Bittermelon mode)

    • MU2016 thank you for cheering her on live. I will say this again 99% of the pageant world probably thought Cat had it in the bag after the Q&A. I like that meme that someone mentioned, PR won the crown but Philippines won the world. I love it!

    • Thanks for sharing your thoughts, MU2016 ! The world already knew, Cat was the rightful MW2016 winner if we were to base it on over-all performance. If non-Filipinos in the audience already felt that she should have won, it only goes to show that the judges were not being objective at all in choosing the rightful and deserving winner. We do not know and we will never know how they gauged each candidate to determine their final ranking of winners that is so questionable ! 😦

    • We were sitting around where you were, and I had to apologize to the (small) Peruvian contingency sitting in front of us because we were so loud. Haha…However, we were shocked in silence when Puerto Rico was announced as the winner. We thought the QnA sealed it for Philippines. Puerto Rico’s answer was good but safe and forgettable. Even Elizabeth Safrit –who we met after the show –said she was very surprised of the result. We also spoke with Ms. Cory Quirino who said there are “…factors beyond our control” but her lips are sealed. Sigh.

      • It’ll be interesting to see just how many women/girls show up for the MWP audition next year. After this year’s MW, I would not be surprised if the turnout was close to none. Personally speaking, I’m no longer interested in MWP or MW. Julia is now just “baiting” the Filipinos in order to bulk up MWO’s fan base. If Cory truly knows the reason for Cat’s non-win, then she should be inspired to turn in the franchise and seek her opportunities elsewhere. For me, MWP and MW have become irrelevant…

  24. Just by looking at that photo of Jonas, Megan and Miss La Laguna, it is obvious that Catriona doesn’t possess that Miss World aura. I mean, if we take a look at all the past winners, they have this magical aura that draws you to them. Think of Priyanka, Rolene and even that black girl from Nigeria way back. I stand to what I’ve said that Catriona’s kind of beauty is debatable. There is something wrong from her nose up.

    • Let this guy be. His profound lack of self-esteem caused him to be the negative person he is today. Just like the other two, Baby Nica and Cocoy, this guy is screwed up to the bone. He must have a terrible childhood growing up. Arguing with people like this one is a waste of time.

      Being critical to others is not at all times constructive criticism. Sometimes, it is your ego seeking flaws from other people just to make yourself feel better and temporarily maintain your self-esteem. It all boils down to psychology.

I love Jonas for what he did for our country, he deserves to show whatever emotions hes got. MW did us wrong period.

    He’s been in this business long enough to experience the thrill of victory and the agony of a non-victory.
    Catriona gave it her best and was a top 5 finalist.
    Time to begin to put this chapter to rest.

To all the rumornongers – please stop this “hate” campaign and all this negativity about Cat and A & Q ! just because our rep failed to bag the blue crown does not give you the right to concoct stories to attack them below the belt, just to catch attention ! Wala naman silang ginagawang masama sa inyo ! Why can’t we just move on, thank and appreciate Cat and her team for doing such a great job of representing us so well in the recently concluded MW pageant ? They all did it without resorting to dirty tactics regardless of the outcome. Cat was a top 5 finalist and may not be good enough of a placement taking into account her over-all performance but the fact of the matter is, she did her utmost best to compete fair and square and to me she is still a “WINNER.”
    Please let us all move on and just spread love and peace this holiday season !

Ultimo mga alaga nila kaya nila ilaglag makaungos lang yung mga paborito nila!!! Sinasabotahe nila mismong mga merla nila lalo na merla ng iba! O kaya pipiratahin yung ka-kompetensiya, tapos liligwakin nila sa training at pababayaan!

    • Megan Young has done nothing to you so it is unfair to label her as a jinx. She represented us well during her time by winning the crown and she still remains to make us proud. It is quite unfortunate with Catrionas placement but to blame and name Megan as the jinx is hitting below the belt. Again, pick your battles and I am willing to debate with you. This goes true to other commenters who include Norman as another jinx, shame on you!

    • I don’t understand why MW org would allow the ND of PR and Indonesia as judges. There’s a conflict of interest. That is just not fair to other contestants.
