Bb. Pilipinas Grand International 2016 Nicole Cordoves is doing well in her Las Vegas mission. And based from the sound-bytes interview I posted over the last weekend, she is getting the full support of all Filipinos during the competition especially during the National Costume Competition held at the Fremont Street Experience yesterday.

  4. I seriously feel nawala ang focus ni Nicole Cordoves. Hindi siya interested to be a beauty queen. What Nicole is aiming for is the newscaster life when she hangs up this binibining title for good!

  6. I can never understand why they never bothered to fix her hair colour. Sorry but for me it made her look blah. Why brown? 😦

    Also, her pasarela is TOO safe specially during the SS round.

    If she gets in to top 15, she would need to work extra hard on her pasarela to make it to the Q&A round since this is her forte.

      • Actually, ang panget ng pagka gawa ng pic… They did not follow the rules of good Photography…. Halatang-halatang sinasabotaje si Nicole… Hhaaaayyyysss…… Buti nalang ang ganda ni Nicole… wala na nga sa rule of thirds tabingi pa landscape na background…. Karmahin sana kung sino man may pakana nito! Joke! Nicole Kaya Mo Yan. We know you are giving your all.

        the photo looks fine to me. it’s a common photography trick to blur the background to make the foreground pop and it was effective in this case

        anyway, nicole is looking great that shade of red on her lips is perfect…yes, go for that jessica biel look as she has the lips and the cheekbones for it

  8. Napanuod nyo ba yung FB live forum ng Miss Grand contestants?.. I think Nicole did great..

    Nakakahiya lang yung ibang comments ng mga Pinoy na pupurihin tayo tapos biglang lalaitin ibang lahi in English… pero I checked… Fake accounts… parang may nananabotaje sa atin… tsk tsk… Pero wow doctor si Indo pero kulang sa comskills and hindi naman pala kagandahan.. nadaan lang sa make-up… ( ako pala mapanglait Hahaha) 😀

    • Ang saken sana ayusin ni nicole ung acts nya while speaking. Yes. She’s very articulate. Makuda sya. May substance naman. May sense. Parang napapansin ko kase sa act nya para bang acts ng sobrang madaldal na tsismosa lang ang peg, parang nasa barkadahan ang peg. Hirap i explain hahaha. Basta sana ayusin nya yun bang speaker na dating talaga. Speaker na acting.

      • IMO, mas mabuti ng ganyan.. kesa kay Canada.. may laman naman pero inantok ako… And don’t forget, bawal sya mag serious talk ngayon dahil baka tanungin sya about our local issues or opinion nya about the US or anything political… Alam na ng lahat na speachwriter sya ng former secretary of finance so given na matalino sya… mahirap ng madulas ng salita out of the country… and baka dun pa ibase ang Q&A… Hirap din karirin nya National costume, wrong timing mahighlight bansa natin lalo na ngayong pinagfifiestahan tayo ng international media. Tamang tama talaga na si Cordoves ang pinadala dyan… Imaginin mo kung si Nicole Manalo andyan… ay naku, goodluck.. baka mas malala pa kay Hitler Einstein Rambutan pinagsasabi nya!

      • I agree with you c2f sa binibini naten this year sya talaga bagay na ipadala dyan. B4 international talaga gusto ko sa kanya. But nung time ng pageant my mind changed. I want her to MU. But when she called binibini grand international. Wala akong say na bakit yon? After a months i realized since she is a good speaker.i realized na tama ung desisyon to send her in MGI. This MGI needs a good speaker since sa advocacy nila ailangan ng matalino at magaling kausap. Stop the war ang theme nila. So dapat maayos talaga. Maganda din naman sya. So pwede talaga. Pero nakay nawatt na yan and i think if nicole wins. Sa kanya mag sstart ang advocacy ng MGI. Si nicole ang ilalagay sa war. Lol
        Pwede din naman sya sa MU. Kung sya ang MUP naten ds year i think ung transformation nya ngayon hinde ganyan ang last transformation nya for MU. More than what she is right now.
        Pero si maxine ang MUP since bff sila sana i guide ni nicole si maxine. Sana lang din ung comm skills ni max kasing galing ng skills ni nicole. Matalino na naman si maxine. Comm skills lang talaga need nya.

      • MU needs brains but what they’re looking for is more of a Victoria’s secret model peg and I know Nicole is not it.. Meanwhile.. Miss Grand is a perfect fit for Nicole except in this case her sash factor is against her. She could be a winner or at least in the Top 3 if its not upto the pageant owner. Our current political status also does not help her chances.

    • @ Closer: Nicole would be the perfect spokesperson for MGI. Walking encyclopedia. And she knows how to carry and handle a conversation without being too pushy or high sounding depending on the situation. Inaakma niya lang sa situwasyon kumbaga. And I must agree na baka maging non-stop ang itanong sa kaniya tungkol sa sa Pangulo at bansa natin kung non-stop din siyang magsasalita just to gain and get attention. Basta positive na lang tayo. I’m sure sa finals, mahirap ang itatanong sa kaniya which I’m sure ay pinaghahandaan na din niya. Nicole won’t be a speechwriter for nothing.
      And yes, I still believe Nicole will do very well during the finals, unless, masabotahe at ilaglag na lang for no reason at all sa towards the end !

  9. I believe in Nicole’s will to win MGI and i don’t doubt that she can be our first MGI. But the problem is with the pageant itself. I don’t know.. para kasing na fi-feel ko na may something. pero malay naman natin, tayo-tayo lang ang ang iisip.

    my first ‘disappointment’ with her is the green gown she wore before. my gosh. what happened.

    The natcos is so-so. Maybe we’re not used to see a black filipiniana natcos? had it been another color, white or gold, i think this will work. Mas bet ko pa yung Chinoyserye niya na natcos nung BBP. that blue and white mark bumgarner terno.

    Who will she wear come evening gown competition? any ideas, Laila?

    There are a lot of beautiful ladies in this year’s edition. So let’s just keep praying for Nicole’s fate in MGI. I still want her to win. But if hindi papalarin, okay lang if hindi talaga para sakanya.

    • I agree! I really don’t see the inspiration of those gowns…. Baka naman, porque ba namatay ang Hari ng Thailand black narin suot nya?… Alam kong lugi tayo sa laban na ito ngunit, manalo man o matalo dapat we have to take the opportunity of showcasing what she represents which is the Philippines! Another suggestion for our future national costumes is a modern gold dominated serpentina/fishtail Filipiniana with a muslim princess bodice with butterfly sleeves tapos the modern geometric cut skirt would be quilted with the patterns of tribal Filipinos… complete with gold and mother-of-pearl accesories…. ganun!

      • Actually I’m okay naman with the design/details the color just didnt work. maybe im looking for a richer color palette for the over all look. masyadong dull siguro plus the stage is dark as well.

        So far, I love Jen’s Natcos followed by Kylie, Nicole then Jeslyn’s. let’s see with the other binibinis.

        Hmmm sabagay.. mahirap mahighlight patriotism natin ngayong panahon na ito… Baka mapickup pa to ng International media at pagtatanungin about our issues. Better safe than sorry. Basta kailangan umabot si Nicole sa Top5 one way or another.

    • Some weeks ago sa chatroom someone hinted almodal. Pero usually kung sinong close nila na designer. Mak tumang yung blue and white Ming vase. Kaya nagulat kami na Val Taguba. Baka nga totoo nagka problema sila.

      • Se previous post ko I mentioned na may insider ako naka usap nagka problem daw pero medyo annoying kase Hindi nya inelaborate. Palagay ko di logistics kase dala naman nila yan. Mix up siguro since the designers are dressing other queens. Mahal singil di siguro kaya namàn nila Nicole mag purchase. Try ko pa !ag snoop around….

  10. Here mas malapit na shot. personally I love the unexpected color combo. Very Angelina Jolie nung Oscar’s. Black dress fabulous emerald earrings. Appreciate nalang natin na malinis gawa hindi lang nakuha ng wow factor. Baka sa goldy gol gold stage mag pop to.

      • ako rin laila, i love the color combo, not the usual predictable gold, silver, white, or pastel na kulay. ang problema kc e yung backdrop, di man lang binago, rocky horror show talaga! nag-co-cost cutting na siguro si nawat, kulang kc sa sponsors, di pinatos ng mga amerikano ang cheap niyang pageant! 😆

    • May nag post dito kelan lang hindi ata gets inspo ng terno. Assuming lang ako ha pero I’ve seen this look before in one of those 17th century catalog of Filipino clothing. The black ensemble reminds me of the was Spanish ladies wear black mantillas during Easter. Check out this painting by Goya. The Spanish flavor in the creation (as well as Jenn’s) is so strong:

      • Hindi ko parin type… Hindi realistic, parang pupunta sa patay… We’re a celebratory culture, mas gugustuhin ko pa na magsuot sya ng mala Lara Quigaman national costume that showcases the products of our country: gold, copper, pineapple, banana, textiles, etc.

        Or kung gusto nyo e simple pero controversial….
        Red Filipiniana with chinese colar and with a colorfully embroidered bakunawa design swallowing an island instead of the moon. Yun ang statement! Paniguradong Top 5 sya dun for sure… Bibigyan lang sya ng politically pollarizing question ng MGI para siguradong matalo.

        Bet ko yung suot nya say for a gala here or abroad. It’s too tame for a natcos. I agree with you something celebratory sana. Pero di naman natin alam pano selection process nila. Mas ok pa rin to kesa kay MJ. Yun nalang – hindi naman nababoy si Nicole and kulture natin.

        Medyo naligaw itong kay Nicole.. lalo na dahil si Parul ang winner ng National Costume last year for her Maranao princess inspired gown by Edwin Uy. Pero you are right… pwede na… Maybe strategy yan ng Aces para hindi tayo mabigyan ng minor award lang…. para siguradong pasok sa Top 5.. Ewan…. basta support nalang tayo..

  13. Love Nicole C ever since bbp, pero pansin ko ang lakas ng energy niya off stage but once rumampa siya, parang hindi 100%. We all know it’s her weakness but even her bbp catwalk seems a bit better than her catwalk now. I just hope strategy nya to.

    I have my eyes on Peru and Venezuela sa comp na to. Consistent ang performance, beautiful and rampadora lol.

  14. I have nothing against Nicole but she is oozing with confidence – over confidence at that. The one that gets into your nerves and makes you cringe. Lucky if she can surpass or be even at par with Parul’s placement last year.

    • so many beautiful delegates in this year edition of miss grand international, its hard to ignore by the presence of nicole cordovez, only one thing that nicole shine when she will be atleast in the top 15, that her edge because her wet….. but beauty wise not much empressed… best of luck sa kanya… sana manalo cya.

  17. This is my first time to see a black (but is it more of dark-gray?) terno. I like the novelty of the color.

    Almost a year after MU 2015, I still cannot get over Thailand’s tuk-tuk NatCos – that was BRILLIANT!

    And since this is a Thai-owned pageant and Indonesia is somehow perceived to be somewhat strong(er) here compared to Filipinas, and both Thailand and Indonesia are renowned for their NatCos, BPCI should have used this opportunity to WOW the socks off Mr. Nawat with a REALLY outlandish and unprecedented Filipina NatCos!

    Not the usual-predictable alternation between Filipiniana (read, either Terno or Baro’t Saya usually) and tribal/ethnic/indigenous/lumad (choose your preferred term) traditional garb, please…

    Aniporn Chalemburawanong’s “transformer” came to life thanks to practitioners of industrial design and was given full financial backing by the Thai Royal Ministry of Tourism (I apologize to our Thai friends if I got this incorrectly). But here is my point : why not allow our brightest and most creative Engineering and Industrial Design professionals and students to collaborate with our country’s premiere fashion designers to produce NatCos that will truly make next day’s News worldwide?
    And using advanced and novel materials?

    Aside from novelty, another reason the international press singled out the tuk-tuk NatCos last year was that it focused on an important aspect of Thai daily life – the transport darling of all gullible foreigners on their first Bangkok visit. LOL. So, setting aside religious or ethnic (read, too serious or potentially offensive if taken out of its proper context) considerations, Thailand opted for plain FUN!

    At the recently-concluded Mister Universal Ambassador (male) pageant, Mr. Myanmar’s NatCos was almost unanimously selected as Best. Their take? A traditional wheelbarrow used by Burmese rice farmers. They essentially mounted four wheels on the poor guy (Mr. Myanmar was not very big; our Andrea Biondo was physically more impressive than he was). The thing proved so unwieldy that it arrived at the NatCos shoot site in a large box, and several of Mr. Myanmar’s co-candidate friends had to help him slip it on and move around!

    Although the NatCos contributes nothing towards assuring a slot in the First Cut, we have to admit that it is one of the indispensable, unforgettable, anticipated, and cherished traditions of pageantry. And if our dear Ms. Cordovez will go out in a whimper (as predicted by not a few of the commentators), at least let us show the world that it came from a really fabulous creature!

        Yes, Ms. Shah’s NatCos was beautiful, but you apparently missed my other point : no Hispanic- nor ethnic/tribal-inspiration FOR A CHANGE. That one still obviously drew inspiration from Moslem Mindanao.

        “National Costume” does NOT need to be limited to “tradtional”, “conservative”, or “old/ancient”. On the contrary, it can draw inspiration from very modern or current themes. No need to look further than the NatCos offerings from Western countries, which sometimes provoke heated debate with “egdy” themes like the excesses of Hollywood, the EuroVision Pop Song Festival, or the Lunar Landings and the conquest of Outer Space with powerful satellites like the Hubble Telescope.

        Which brings up another point : it would be nice if this year’s NatCos (Ms. Cordovez’s) would go to an entirely different and much more lofty level as to totally upstage last year’s (Ms. Shah’s). Then sustain this. This way, we see a progression in the visual impact of the NatCos from year-to-year, and Filipinas can eventually join the ranks of Thailand and Indonesia as “NatCos Powerhouse”.

        But no, this is all just musings on my part. For this year, we will have to settle on the striking black terno. But having said so, the other NatCos offerings are undeniably “Grand(er)”.

  21. I’m not expecting so much from Nicole in MGI this year. Not because. I hate her but because nawatt has so much hostility to us. And with the Thais still greiving or mourning over the loss of their beloved king, I have a feeling we might see a thai winner this year. Just my thoughts. Like how usa won overniankne last 2012 out of pity for the Connecticut shooting tragedy that time. Imho

    2. Napaka cheap ng pageant na to kahit nasa Begas. Stage ng Rocky Horror Picture Show itim na itim tarpaulin lang indicator na event ng MGI nagaganap. KA CHEAPAN! may kabaong sa gitna Happy Halloween!

    3. May gag order ako sa isang admin pero what the heck….nagka problema daw sa Natcos at gown. Very protective of Nicole kase pinaka close nyan Bininini at gusto i-contain issue. Kung anong problema hindi nya sinabi. Medyo annoying na actually pero I continue to stick around kase nandun pa rin pinaka reliable na sources ko. maybe he also knows that I’m a huge Nicole supporter kaya pume preno pero i’m a big girl i can swallow the bitter pill.

Kung si Nawatt si Ariel – to crown a venezuelan is like singing: look at these stuff isn’t it neat? wouldn’t you think my collections complete? If a Venezuelan wins, it will make their pageant more LEGIT.

    ANG TOTOONG MISS GRAND INTERNATIONAL LAST YEAR AY SI MS. MACEDONIA. Yun talaga world peace. nagkasundo tayo lahat. This year si Iraq. She so kooky kayang patawarin.

    • Thank you for the updates on Nicole & MGI in Vegas, Lai ! Medyo disappointing ang mga observation pero, all points taken. It is what it is. I’ve always been a fan of Nicole so ok lang sa akin kung ano maging results. It’s not all about winning anyways. I’m sure NIcole is having the time of her life in Vegas and as long as she’s having fun in the competition, ok na yun ! Smile lang ng smile 🙂

      • OO Jen, keri. I know naman Nicole is having fun there. experience pa rin yun. Gusto ko maging realistic without antagonizing anyone. It is what it is. If we win nga, ako naman din sasaya sinoa ba hindi?

    • Hopefully, sa dami ng mga Pinoy sa Vegas, magra-rally sila behind Nicol sa final night gaya nang nangyari kay Pia sa Planet Hollywood, where halos mabingi ang audience sa tindi ng ingay ng mga Pinoy sa audience applauding Pia. Tingnan lang natin kung hindi mabingi si Nawat pag nilaglag niya si Nicole at mapolitika na naman 🙂

      I love Miss Iraq. She is the embodiment of a real rockstar. Coming from a restrictive country, Miss Iraq absolutely embraces liberty and, thus, should be declared Miss Grand International.

      Anyway, this is not a pageant to lose. Mereseng overhyped ito ng Global Beauties site, keberculosis ang drama ko dito. Wapakels! Cheap naman kase talaga ‘tong pageant na ito just like Miss Intercontinental. As a new powerhouse beauty pageant country, dapat nagsusuplada tayo sa mga pageant na gaya nito.

    • I agree on iraq. This MGI sa title pa lang alam mo na kung ano ang hinahanap. Isang rampadora na palaban at malakas talaga. Mala macedonia and iraq. Pero hinde sila kagandahan kaya aayawan ni nawatt yan. Last year parul shah was rampadora kaysa kay DR. Pero ayun 3rd runner up lang. Naguguluhan ako d2 sa pageant na to.   26. Okay. We are now in the 2nd pageant. As of 4 pageant ds month. 1 down.
    Sa totoo lang d ko alam ang sasabihin ko kay nicole. I know she did what she can. Yes, she can call a winner or a Miss Grand International Pero feel ko talaga waley din. Not being a negative here. Common sense nalang. The owner is someone who is also insecure to us. To our binibinis. To our teams who polished our queens very well. There are other reasons at ayaw ko ng isa isahin pa. Nicole is a good speaker and i know napapansin din ni nawatt yan. But! If they are looking for a speaker then nicole is not the only choice. There is india and indonesia who are facially beautifull than nicole. So i think they will choose india or indonesia or even peru. Gaano man kaganda ang performance ni nicole alam na natin ang nasa isip ni nawatt at Don tayo nagkakapare pareho ng thinking that nawatt will not crown PH. They are also using us. Kaya sana next year i drop na ng bpci ang mgi pati ang intercon. Big reasons is para hinde masayang ang pera. Gamitin nalang sa remaining titles ang pera pambili ng magagandang wardrobes at gowns and everything they need for preparations and trainings.
    But still umaasa pa rin ako ng konte. I still support her and other queens. Sana nicole will surprise us. Show us the pasabog na sinsabi nya na mala MU na performance. So Good Luck to her.

      • Ito din ang naiisip kong scenario: Maghihintay muna si Nawat na magkaroon ng best Thai representative sa MGI para yun ang papanalunin niya. Bragging rights din sa kanila yun na sila ang unang Asian MGI. Kaya mukhang matagal-tagal pa bago natin masungkit ang MGI.

    • Bakit ba ang laki ng insecurity nila saten? Powehouse din Venezuela and others pero di nman ganon treatment nila. It must more than our being one of the leaders in beauty pageants. Any thoughts?

      • Mababa kasi tingin nila sa atin. Iniismall lang nila tayo dati kaya nung sunud-sunod na ang placement natin sa mga pageant starting 2010 tapos sila palagi na lang clapper, doon na nagsimula ang bashing sa atin.
