Miss Venezuela 2016 Keysi Sayago and Miss Venezuela 1998 Carolina Indriago (bottom)


The last time Osmel Sousa green-lighted a dark-skinned beauty as Miss Venezuela Universo was way back in 1998 when Carolina Indriago of Delta Amacuro was sent to Trinidad & Tobago (her journey was cut short during the Top 5 and did not make it to the final troika anymore) where our very own Miriam Quiambao placed 1st Runner-Up and Mpule Kwelagobe of Botswana won her country’s first Miss Universe.

Fast forward to 2016 when, just a few nights ago, a dark-skinned lady from Monagas – Keysi Sayago – was chosen as Venezuela’s bet to the 66th Miss Universe.

Does Osmel Sousa know something in advance that we are not aware of or is he simply willing to take another risk in sending Keysi and trusts his gut-feel enough that she will deliver when it matters most?


I like Keysi. She has a captivating (read: elegantly smoldering) aura that – regardless of skin color – can make her a strong contender in Miss Universe. And I believe that it’s high time to take the gamble which could pay off handsomely in the long run.

So who’s with me on Team Keysi? I really feel that – after Mariam Habach who will battle it out with our Maxine Medina – she would be the perfect choice to be the national successor because she could set a new template for Miss Universe. 😉

  1. Don’t forget Minorka Mercado from 94 in Manila. He probably thought that she will be a hit in Manila just like Minorka

  2. Miss Venezuela from Sucre in Miss Universe 2006 was also part-black. Honestly though, Keysi reminds me more of Miss Venezuela in Miss Universe 1976. She finished 1st ru to Israel’s Rina Messinger. I believe her name is Judith Castillo. Keysi’s smile is very much like that of Judith’s.

    • Yes. she’s Judith Castillo, 1st runner-up of Miss venezuela 1976, where Elluz Peraza, Miss Venezuela 1976 resigned after 36 hours from her coronation and Judith became MV 1976 where she represented Venezuela in Miss Universe 76 in Hong Kong, she’s the 2nd Venezuealn 1st runner-up from Miss Universe. She’s upset with the Miss Venezuela becase they didnt give her the prizes that she’s supposed to win becuase she succeded Elluz Peraza.

  3. Hello tito norms, you forgot Jictzad Vina, Miss Venezuela 2005 who represented Venezuela in Miss Universe 2006 and failed to make it to the Top 20. She’s the 2nd Miss Venezuela after Ana Karina Anez (Miss Vzla 2003) who failed to make it to the Top 15/20 since 1981.

  4. Well osmel must have seen how MU prefer on tanned skin women. He is sending a sharper exotic tan woman rather than the usual fair glamazon beauties.
    Anyway, i’ve noticed miss mexico trying to copy pia’s fierce look presentation on pasarelas

  5. Tito Norms, why is that they only have one winner? I mean a Miss Venezuela and 4 runner ups. Hindi na ba to kagaya ng dati Miss Venezuela Universo then ung next is i ternacional? Dahil ba to nawala ang franchise ng me mag osmel?

    Papaano na yung Miss Tierra 2015 na dapat ngayon sasabak.. eh nagkaroon ng Miss venezuela earth. Hehe

  6. Jictzad Viña, Miss VZLA 2005. The second miss vnzla of color. You missed her. she didnt place in MU 2006. The 2nd Miss Venezuela who didnt placed in the Miss Universe since 1981

    I just hope that with MUO on IMG, a not so powerhouse country will win, like Curacao, Barbados or maybe Myannmar.
    This 2016, Curacao has a very strong representative, I want her to be in the semis, and let’s see what fate awaits her.

  10. She’s IN no doubt. Now pa lang pageant ready na. Anu pa kaya next year. Malamang aalagaan ng mabuti yan. Babantayan. They are really the power house. Sana agahan ng bbp ang audition. Para maraming dyosa ang lumabas. Mag screen sila kada province. Pero so far maine elima is the bet for now.
    This year the battle is very tough. Maxines chances of b2b is very very low. Lalo na kung macancel ang MU sa pinas. But i am hoping na hinde sya mapolitiko. Pia is reigning queen. Also a pinay. Mukhang maganda naman record nya sa pag ta trabaho. So hahanap hanapin ng IMG ang katulad nya. Iisipin ng img na very hardwork ang rep naten. So i am hoping na sana galingan talaga ni maxine sa lahat. Pero masasabi ko lang talaga. A runner up or semifinalist is sure.
    Magaganda pambato ng Russia sa MU, MI, ME at MGI. Ganun din ang venenzuela.
    Marami pang MU sa MGI.
