Jeslyn wins in Guayaquil

Last night, an Ecuadorian lass won Miss Global 2016 in Manila. This morning, a Filipina beauty claimed Miss United Continents 2016 in Guayaquil. Just an interesting detail (similar to what happened years back when Riyo Mori won Miss Universe in Mexico and Priscila Perales got Miss International in Japan) surrounding the very pleasant victory of Jeslyn Santos as she became the first Filipina and Asian to win the Ecuador-based title. This is a sweet vindication for the determined Bulakenya (we share the same hometown on Hagonoy, Bulacan) who never stopped believing in her determination to bring honor to the country. This is also an achievement for her mentor John dela Vega who continuously pushed her ward to reach the top.

Jeslyn’s court is made up of the entries from Denmark, India, Brazil, Mexico and Panama, in that order.

    • I agree with you. I think Spanish is still being taught in schools whether elective or part of curriculum. My Grade 8 nephew is studying at a Catholic school and they have Spanish subject. He speaks Spanish with Pinoy accent. 🙂

    • So many contests in the Philippines, it’s OK, but I really would enjoy contests like, Most Productive Government Official of the Phiippines, Most Honest Government Official, Most Corrupt Government Official, Most Embarrassment to the Philippines,Most Shameless Official, etc. That will be fun and eye-opening…..

      • Natatandaan ako sa styling ni Mariam. Nawala na talaga yung youthfulness nya. Maganda oo pero umay na umay na rin ako wala na syang pasabog sa araw araw na updates sa kanya.

    • Sa tingin ko pinapackage nila si Miriam into a european lad bombshell. Alam nila na mahilig ang mga pinoy sa caucasian ang dating. Pero im hoping isang european ang magwiwin ng MU16 pero kung deserve nmn ng ibang candidate, lalo na si 4m, then why not. Hehehe

  17. @ Baby Nica : Pageant politics? Cooking Show? Kung mayroon man, siempre walang aamin. Sino, kailan, at saan? Connect the dots. Read between the lines. Even then it will all be dismissed as circumstantial. Hard evidence will be difficult to unearth, or like finding a needle in a haystack.

    Partida, parang Cumbia lang ang wardrobe… In fairness, bumenta ang “Ida” inspired national costume. Siempre me halong sash factor pagkapanalo nya dahil parehas silang finalist ng BBP ni Pia Wurtzbach… Pero she looks fit, plakado ang smokey eyes and best of all na nosebleed ako sa Spanish answer with confidence… pinaghandaan talaga nya! Wow!

    ) infairness may delicadeza sila kasi wala si ecuador sa top 10. congrats miss philippines! yan ang masasabing deserving winner.

    • Wag na kasi nating gawing issue ang delikadesa. Ang importante, kung sino yung the best na contestant, sya ang dapat na manalo. Kung deserving ang Pinas na manalo sa sarili nitong bansa, bakit hindi natini ibigay kung ano ang nararapat sa kanya. Kung titignan ang judging sheet ng isang beauty contest, hindi nakalagay ang ‘delikadesa’ bilang part ng criteria. Magpuri tayo ngayon kasi palagi tayong pasok sa banga. For sure, sa susunod na mga taon, kung kelan ulit tayo mangungolelat, iisipin ulit natin kung kelan mangyayaring Miss Philippines ulit ang mananalong Miss Earth. Kongrats, Jeslyn!

      • Agree! I can’t with this delicadeza thing. Tigilan na ang ganyang mentalidad. Masyado niyong pinapababa ang mga Pilipino dahil sa delicadeza na yan. Paano kung deserving tayo, eh di mandadaya ang organizers para lang hindi tayo manalo because of delicadeza? May gad! Quit that 1800s thinking. Nakakaasar ang ganyang pag-uutak.

    Hindi ko talaga to masyado pinapansin. Like like lang ganun. Pero a few days ago nag post sila ng photos na group. Parang may mga comments sa baba (lase usually walang comments posts sa kanya) iba nga daw tindig compared sa mga katabi nya. I remember looking at the photos and saying iba talaga training sa pinas. Hindi man super ganda aangat kase iba yung tikas. parang on pointe palagi.

    • Tingin ko after manalo ni Jeslyn sa Miss United Continents, alam na rin ni John kung paano magstand out ang girls niya for Binibini. 😊😇😇😇 si Jes kasi very raw pa nung Binibini eh nung polished na siya andami niyang pinataob sa MUC. Kaya well-prepared girls always win.

      • Pero yung medyo hindi napapansin dito ibang level din pala kung dalhin mo sa ibang bansa. Ang taas ng standards natin dito pala. Even si Anabel Tia last year eh, kung ihilera mo sa group of girls, hindi sya nag sla slack off pag dating sa posture and sa pakikipag landian sa camera. The Filipino girls know how to put on a show kumbaga. Nakakatuwa.

  24. There’s an over-all performance of her on the Facebook page of Concursos de Belleza and while she’s not the prettiest facially, in motion, she’s perfect. Such a confident, relaxed and commanding presence. She does this back-to-the-audience-and-flipping-her-hair-and-looking-back a lot because profile wise, it’s her best angle. And if she did answer in Spanish- wondering if everyone had a prepared answer ala MI for what seemed like the final Top 5 Q&A- on her own, then it basically sealed the deal for her.

    Minor pageant or not, our girls- all equal in my eyes- are truly at the peak of their game, and the Philippine sash, firmly in the same footing as Venezuela.

  25. Multilingual pala ito. She answered the question in spanish right? Nakaka excite naman to. Mukhang mag sha shine ang PH sa mga minor pageant. Mtqi with nancy, intercon with jen and miss globe with nichole. I dont think so in MGI. Talo na naman kase ang thailand.
