  1. Pia’s homecoming is in fact the grandest, the longest, the most celebrated and the most watched of any homecoming accorded to any beauty pageant winner in the Universe. We should all be thankful to Queen Pia for without her incredible achievement, there’s nothin’ inspiring to talk about and the whole nation won’t be alive again.

    When Boy Abunda at TWBA last night asked Pia to describe her victory in one word, she declared, “magical!” So let us all enjoy her magical and memorable reign and support her unconditionally to becoming the best ever Miss Universe!

    (Funny — I saw myself on the video at 5′ and somethin’. Never had the chance to watch such before but strangely, I did it for Queen Pia!)

  2. Pia’s homecoming parade may perhaps go down in MU’s history as the biggest, longest and rowdiest. Other countries may shake their heads in disbelief, but that’s how Filipinos take beauty pageants—seriously, as if it were a matter of national interest. And it may indeed be so. What with the courtesy calls to the Office of the President, Congress, Office of City Mayors of at least 3 cities, and Senate Resolution extolling her achievement. Other countries may not understand it, but pageantry is deep-rooted in Philippine history, culture and tradition. The coronation of the “fairest maiden od ‘em all” is a standard centerpiece of town fiesta celebrations throughout the archipelago. The annual Santacruzan, the religio-cultural street theatre of sorts, reenacting the search for Jesus Christ’s cross, always showcases the most beautiful ladies and young girls playing various roles. Through centuries of annual reenactment, this seems to have implanted in the minds of the Filipinos an integral concept of beauty that includes the spiritual. With the Filipinos’ innate penchant for meaning, beauty pageants lately have acquired an added dimension— espousal of advocacy.

    It is in this context that the world should know why Philippine beauty pageant representatives compete not for themselves but for the country— “for the Philippines!” so goes the fans’ battlecry.

    And so, when we Filipinos come out in throngs to cheer for our beauty queen, we are not just adoring a beautiful face and body. We are admiring a total beauty— values, brains, and physique. As we cheer, we are affirming that the support that we have given her during the contest will continue as she promotes her advocacies. After all, as she competed with the entire country behind her, she will complete her reign with the entire country supporting her in all her endeavors for the betterment of the global community.

    • I agree. Let’s not forget that the Singkil dance is a remnant of our pre-colonial Filipino version of pageants where the daughters of Maranao royalty and nobles gather to showcase their talents, skills and of course, beauty to the most eligible suitors from all corners of the ancient maritime South East Asia. All these proves that pageantry is embeded in our culture as much as it runs in our veins. 🙂

  6. Norman,
    thanks for giving us a platform to exchange photos and ideas. You’ve been keeping up with our insatiable need for any news on Pia through your coverage and since i follow you both on IG and FB, I know you must be tired. :}

  7. Nice replay of a memorable day..made more memorable by a cute guy in front of me in the midst of the bustling crowd..only that as i got lost in frenzy with my gaze following pia’s float, as i turned my back he was no longer there in the spot..what were left were just the ticker tapes scattered in the pavement symbolic of fleeting moments…maybe it will give me reason to frequent araneta center..for sure he works in one of those bpo’s as he was seen clutching his lanyerd id colored blue with three big letters on it..hahaha..what a memory on pia’s historical parade.
