  2. Sir Norman, kapatid ba ni Daisy Reyes si Sheila Marie Reyes, ang nanalo ng Miss RP Visayas?

THE list of Filipina beauty queens tossing their tiaras into the political ring continues as Daisy Reyes filed her certificate of candidacy at the Commission on Elections-Pateros cluster last October 14.
But Reyes, who also celebrated her 39th birthday that same day and accompanied by supporters at the Pateros Municipal Hall Building, didn’t seek for a third or final term as councilor of this town renowned for duck-raising industry and balut (duck eggs) production.

The charming and down-to-earth political science alumna at the Lyceum Northwestern University in Dagupan City, Pangasinan, aimed for a fresh tenure as mayor instead. The town’s incumbent mayor, Jaime “Joey” Cruz Medina, is now on his last term which will end on June 2016.
    ‘Cinderella of Philippine pageantry’
Born and raised in Pateros, Reyes was always honest about her humble beginnings. In one of her TV interviews decades ago, she even revealed having experienced selling various merchandise on the sidewalks (bangketa) of Divisoria with her mother… and running as fast as they could whenever operatives come to shoo them away along with the other sidewalk vendors. One time, she was ordered by her mom to buy vegetables at the nearby public market. After crossing the street, a talent scout who took notice of her potentials suddenly approached her and asked if she wanted to join a beauty contest. That day changed her life–for the better and forever.
At the tender age of 14, although she had never participated in a beauty contest before, she won the Modcerinas de Manila 1991 title… plus a townhouse! “Yun ang unang unang bahay naming na hindi kami nagrerenta [It was the first-ever house we owned that we never rented].”

  3. Uhmm… Bakit po taga laguna ang nanalo for RP Mindanao wala bang contestant galing sa region nila… parang irrelevant lang kasi how she represents Mindanao kung hindi siya tagaroon…

  4. Am so sorry, first glance I thought I was looking at MRS. Republic of the Philippines winners.

  5. Do the winners get to keep those exquisite gold crowns and yokes (?) or do the organizers keep those under lock and key to be worn only during public appearances?

  6. I’m assuming this is the counterpart of Miss America where looks aren’t valued as much as intelligence and talent are! The production seems extravagant! On another note,Will there be a live link for Miss international? Thanks!

  7. Kuya Norman, who were the 15 semifinalists? (the way they were announced) Top 5 as announced as well. Tyvm.

  8. I hope there is a video which displays their interviews & final Q&As. Just like all the candidates in the Miss America pageant, I know they were all naturally articulate and scholastically impressive. Congratulations to ALL the winners. I’m sure it’s well deserved.
