  1. BPCI better start supplying fashionable attires for Pia and our future representatives… If we stick to those mediocre outfits baka ma turn off pa ang IMG lol.

  2. I made a research about WME/IMG, you must check the services that they offer and they offer A LOT, as in A LOT from:
SERVICES BY CAPABILITY: Consulting, Event Management, Hospitality, IMG Academy, League Development, Licensing, Media Distribution, Media Production, Performance, Speakers, Sponsorships, Strategic Initiatives, Talent Representation, Ticketing, Venue Services, Video Archive

It’s like a ONE STOP shop, and the events and brands that they have handled… so the opportunities for GOOD BRANDS AND LABELS to be associated with Miss Universe are endless. So one can expect a more glamorous and glitz brand for the new Miss Universe.

And now, I am seeing a possibility of future candidates even if they don’t win in the pageant to get signed if IMG sees potential in them.

Maybe, we shouldn’t be that afraid of the changes – seeing their portfolio and their interest with Miss Universe to the point of wanting it 100% ownership – I guess it means that they know what Miss Universe is, so maybe just maybe they’ll improve it…

As for Pia, she need not be afraid, she has the goods – I guess BPCI and Aces & Queens should strategize and package her as multi-faceted queen – actress, host, stylist, fashion writer, make-up artist and a chef – and this should be obvious in all records she’ll submit for the competition and she’ll highlight in her interviews.

And in the activities of the pageant, Pia should show that she’s versatile and a chameleon.

Given that, Pia might just be the first Miss Universe in IMG/WME era.

    • Sa totoo lang, my admiration for Pia grows everyday. Ganda niya shet!!!! Fierce kung fierce sa catwalk!!

I guess kung mag iimplement sila ng drastic changes and turn MU into an Elite Model search, i-e-alienate din nila Latino fanbase nila not worried about the Pinoy fanbase kase sumusuporta naman tayo sa lahat. Baka the changes will be in providing a better production, more high-profile fashion people for their clothes and photoshoots. Baka i tweak or i modernize lang nila MU prod which I’m excited about. Every year banas na banas tayo sa pamamalakad ni Trump so now that he’s out dapat matuwa nalang tayo. Malay baka maibalik pa ang mas magandang crown or even little sisters – hello nostalgia.

    Bahala na si Batman….

    • yep- more high fashunnnnnn…malay natin, IMG may rope in classier clothes and staff..goodbye Fadil, hello Mario Testino or Patrick Demarchelier..goodbye never-heard 3rd rate performers, hello Robin Thicke lol (Blurred Lines for the swimsuit segment anyone??)

    • Agree with your points, something to look forward to in the coming months leading to December or January. At least parang may teleseryeng inaabangan ang MU fans. So at some point publicity pa rin sya and people are talking about it.

I am feeling na baka sa New York, California or Las Vegas ang Miss Universe. It will be easy for WME/IMG to organize the pageant with all of the resources that they have.

  4. scary. not sure if scary good or scary bad though. sincevits a modelling agency they might be looking at taller girls. criteria might change as well. hope it does bot turn out like supermodel of the world or elite look of the year wherein the winners came out of nowhere

  6. I work in Hollywood entertainment and have many friends who works for WME, and I must say that this is a smart move by Trump and WME. MU was jeopardized by association with Trump, WME wants to be the next top talent agency in the world so they acquired IMG originally for sports, but what a better way to try to get ahead of international competitors in fashion+beauty than to buy Miss Universe. It’s a win-win. As for the pageant itself, expect it to be a lot more modeling and talented oriented, which will probably work in Pia’s favor. She’s a TV star and model already and WME|IMG would be smart to have a Miss Universe prototype like her. Would not be surprised is WME|IMG tries to join more international markets (can you imagine if Mercator models was acquired?). Hopefully this new acquisition rebuilds people’s trust in MU after years of suspicion that results were hand picked and politicized.

    • as much as I want Pia to win, if IMG leans towards tall girls, Pia is cut. Even though she models in the Philippines and can project the camera, her height is lacking — a physical attribute every modelling agency is looking for 😦

  7. Let’s wait and see what is in the mind of the new owner, so far no press conference had yet been set and done. We will conclude once WME/IMG had roll out the new rules and changes for Miss Universe. Hoping that this would matter for improvement so that Miss Universe will remain the leading universal pageant in this wide world. If there’s an innovation maybe its for the good of the pageant itself, lets hope that the better is in store for MU.

  8. At the end of the day, it’s a business and owners prioritise this over tradition. But it’s also specifically a pageant which is a totally different beast from fashion oriented events. So if profitability is the goal, they’ll be pitching it not to the Europeans (who couldn’t care less about pageants) but (back) to the Latinas (who were greatly offended by Trump’s racially tinged anti-immigration remarks) and to the fanatic Asian market. But as to how this plays out in a new iteration of the pageant remains to be seen though it’s so easy to make assumptions that to pander to these markets may mean crowning another Latina (as an appeasement) or to someone who symbolises a current racial disparity (looking at you Miss Japan). We can only hope that agendas aside- and let’s be realistic that there are- the pageant still sticks to its core traditions of choosing a truly deserving queen.

    • Wow. Such intelligent and thought-provoking comment Andrew. Thanks.

A rarity in this blog (except Mr. Norman , of course. )

      World Peace. =)

    • Not necessarily. The crown doesn’t have to be given to a Latina to make up for Trump’s racial slurs. Look at what happened during Miss USA 2015, Oklahoma who is caucasian won instead of Texas who’s Mexican.

  9. I’m just so happy with this latest development. Now that MU is out of Trump’s hands, the pageant can now focus on its main business instead of parrying attacks from all corners of the world over the immigration brouhaha. IMG, which has been the production arm of the annual coronation show, knows exactly what makes MU an exciting event anticipated by fans around the world. I don’t think the new owner will make an 180-degree turn to completely change the MU format in a single year. Like Trump after he acquired shares of MU in 1997, IMG would surely introduce changes year after year and let it evolve into something that’s modern, fresh, forward-looking, and yet still a much-awaited annual event by its traditional fans. I trust the transition from the Trump era to IMG domination will be challenging but smooth that will be true to the ideals of Miss Universe. Good luck to all of us!

  10. napanood nyo ba Eat bulaga ds day? kasale sya sa bulaga pa more. videoke pa more wit miriam quiambao. OMG! Pia looks like a doll. ang payat payat na nya.

  11. I’m not sure if this is a good or bad news. all I know is that kaabang abang ang mangyayari with MU with the new owner.

Ang daming tanong ngayon. maiiba na nga ba talaga ang qualifications? a downgrade or upgrade? a beauty pageant or a model search? magbabalikan ba ang mga nag back out na sponsors? sasali ba uli ang mga nag back out na countries?

makaka apekto ba ito sa chances ni Pia? or let’s say sa ibang representatives din? haaay! sana MU na agad.

    • Do you know how big WME is here in the Entertainment World. It is one of the biggest Talent Agency here. So YES it is a good thing way BIGGER than Trump. Expect big named Celebrity judges to host and judge this pageant. And no longer those cheap Orange housewives or NBC Chef and kids that NBC puts as judges.

  12. With these new owners, expect Miss Universe to be even MORE competitive. IMG, an international talent agency on steroids, wants the caliber of an international star as their next Miss Universe. MARKETABILITY is their mantra. Expect even more Europeans and Latinas to make the first cut. Height definitely WILL matter, as will CLEAVAGE. I think you get the picture.

  13. I’m a bit nervous about this. It’s “new” therefore an unknown. Guess I’ll wait and see – it’s all any of us can do, just wait. I hope the pageant is sooner rather than later. We’ve all waited too long for the last couple of years wondering when our favorite pageant would take place. Hopefully, under new management, MU will now be more dependable timing-wise. Let’s hope the upcoming pageant is soon. The anticipation is maddening…

    • Nabasa ko somewhere ( I don’t remember where) that MU will take place in LA and the construction has already been started, I’m guessing based dun sa rumors MU season will be Dec. Though it’s only a rumor.

      • I hope it’s more true than rumor. Salmat for the info, rumor or not, it gives one hope…

  14. Hi Sir Norms I would just like to post this part of Ms. Ligron’s post

“Madaming magagandang babae sa Pilipinas, at pinatunay to ni Stella Araneta dahil nag place ang Pilipinas sa Miss Universe sa mga nakaraang taon.
    Pero walang pisikal na korona.”

I believe that she’s saying is that we sent crown-worthy candidates but we didn’t win a “crown” and not “there won’t be a crown for the winner”. Thanks!

    • That was also my interpretation of Ines’ comment on our past candidates. I hope jajang is correct that this year MU will be held in LA so I can watch it live and root for Pia personally.
