  1. I think leo is a big kawalan to pageantry..ganito din nangyari saga designer natin dati.. Like mama rene salud….tsaka e ano kung bakla si leo? Even here in cebu , handlers must look and pay for the gowns na susuutin ng mga candidates namin, hindi free willy like Stella reyna ng libre #taxbir

  2. In my opinion mas kinabog ng ibang designer ang obra ni cinco, kitang-kita naman na ang daming choices that night(deserving ang top fivr). Hindi porke sikat, panalo agad. Kaya nga compitition db?

(Janicel did well that nigth, talagang mas maganda lang tlga ang gawa nang iba.)

  4. PERSONALLY, I I CANNOT BLAME LEO FOR THIS COMMENT, I LOOK UP HIS COURAGE TO PUBLICLY POST SUCH COMMENT. I FEEL UPSET AND DISSAPOINTMENT, PERSONALLY, I FEEL THAT LEO DOESN’T MIND IF FOR EXCLUSION IF ALL OTHER FIVE ARE FABULOUS, BUT I REALLY FELT THAT TWO OF THE TOP FIVE FALL BEHIND MY EXPECTATION GOWN WISE, DESIGN WISE, AND CREATIVITY. THAT’S WHY HA???? YOU CANNOT HELP BUT ENTERTAIN THE IDEA THAT THERE IS POLITICS AND THERE IS…THAT’S WHY I LOOK UP TO LEO, CARY SANTIAGO THE FILIPINO DESIGNER OF MODERN TIMES WHO SPEAK THEIR MIND, SO NOW FELLOW FILIPINOS WHO ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT PAGEANT, UNTIL WHEN ARE WE GOING TO CLOSE OUR MOUTH AND EYES…SMA REIGN IS LONGER THAN MARCOS REIGN….WE HAVE TO STAND UP TOO! WE HAVE TO FIND CREATIVE WAYS TO PRESSURE SMA AND GTO GIVE BACK WHAT WE DESERVED. WE ARE FILIPINO WHO DESERVED THE RESPECT. WHAT ARANETA DID TO FILIPINO DESIGNERS IS SUCH BELOW THE BELT.

    • Just don’t add to her coffers – wag bumili ng ticket at manood na lang sa TV. U will not be upset and disappointment.

  6. First casualty among today’s designers Si Leo Almodal, vindictive ba si madam?
Nangyari din ito kay mama Rene Salud, I remember I was in grade school then, it was madam and Mama Pitoy versus Mama Rene, since then hindi NA sumasali Si mama Rene at pati MGA alaga nya wa NA rin join, then Louie Mamengo (RIP) came, Si Pebbles Lang ANG nag place, then Mama Louie migrated to U.S., nag mujer mujer duon, this is not new, may galit talaga itong Si madam, control freak NA WALA sa lugar …….Madam wake up, magbago ka na …… Sana🐷🎀🐷

    • I agree!…. Remember, malaki ang contribusyon ni Mama Rene sa pag place ni Chat Silayan, Desiree Verdadero sa Miss U based on the gowns he provided which are designs that are ahead of his time! Imagine yung powder blue color ng gown ni Janine Tugonon and the fish tail silhouette worn by Megan Young speaks for itself.

      • I’m a Janicel believer C2F, napaisip tuloy AKO like what miss tissa just wrote, baka maka apekto kay JANICEL and you and I believes that she should be sent to miss u, indeed Si janicel ANG brown barbie, I know you know a lot regarding bpci, kung hindi SA kanya ang MUP, runner up NA Lang, I won’t settle for any title for janicel, SIYA ANG ITINAKDA!!!🐷🎀🐷

Hindi sya nakapag gather ng fanbase to defend her prior to Binibini…

      • @C2F…..
I’m very confident that Janicel is way more prepared than San Miguel, matalino , masipag, at gutom Sa pagaaral, gustong makatapos ng kolehiyo, eh ano naman kung ” sob story” Si janicel, hindi ba’t ito ang karaniwang istorya Ng buhay Ng ordinaryong Pilipinang katulad NG nakararami, hindi ba’t ito ang tunay Na BUHAY NG nakararami Sa atin? Tama na muna ang banyagang apelyido rep ( no offense to banyagang last name ) isugal Si janicel Sa miss u, dama KO Na siya talaga ang ITINAKDA !🐷🎀🐷

The only reason why I put up with all this random crazy melodrama is because behind all this, his heart is always at the right place. And this time I totaly agree with him… I wish all the designers has the guts like him to make a stand to create CHANGE! Sa totoo lang, the only way that we could stop all this brouhaha is…

    Ah wait…

    JANICEL LUBINA IS BBP-UNIVERSE 2015!!!

    • It’s Miss Universe Philippines not Bb Pilipinas Universe.

  8. I support Leo’s decision but I hope this only applies to Bb. Pilipinas. I hope he’s still going to dress with or without pay for our girls in Miss World and Miss Earth. I’d never support Bb. Pilipinas with Stella still being the ND. noway!

Di ko alam kung anong going ons na hindi natin nakikita but this has been brewing for a while so he was bound to let off some steam. I hope he doesn’t quit pageantry altogether. He can focus on Miss Earth and Miss World.

  10. That’s his choice, he doesn’t wanna dress a beauty queen/s. Guys, there are plenty of designers will do this for the sake of Pinoy pride. We must never give up just cuz one designer wants to make a hill out of a mole. Clearly, there something must have happen to rant that much about it. I wish he would have make clear about it instead of putting a big question marks on our heads. There’s too much drama around it that we just have to shrug it off. Will the next amazing designer/s please come forward? If only i can draw and sew would be happy to be the one providing gowns.

    • Is Leo saying he does not want to dress up a Beauty pageant candidate or both Beauty Queens (winners) and candidates?

    • Actually. Si Leo na mismo nagsabi, di niya forte ang pageants so we now have to find those designers na pang pageant talaga ang aesthetic.

  11. This is hard to say because I think Leo Almodal is probably the most pageant-perfect designer in the Philippines today (just look at every single design in that pic above… truly fit for beauty queens). And Leo’s popular… but I think he is being a little over dramatic. Chill lang sis 😘

Perhaps this kind of melodrama is what turns SMA off to Filipino designers? She’s old and stubborn. She’d rather pay her friend in Bogota bargain basement prices for a recycled design than deal with the headache of an emotionally-invested beki at home.

I understand Leo is disappointed with the MJ pink gown debacle and now Janicel snub, but I don’t think this approach is productive. Filipinos still need to stay on BPCI on the Pinoy designer issue, but I don’t this kind of FB drama is helpful.

In the end, there is only room for one Diva at BPCI and we all know who it is.

    • “In the end, there is only room for one Diva at BPCI and we all know who it is.”

      -haylahvet! Haha!

      • I believe there is really politics in BPCI.

  12. I respect for his decision but I believe that one of his gown creation that will be use in the pageant will not make his business go down the hill. I appreciate that he established his business to support the hundreds of Filipinos especially women as well mothers who have family to support. I wish that Leo will reconsider his decision and also I hope Leo realized that foundations like Bb. Pilipinas Charities are not generating millions everyday and they just relying on donations from the generous supporters.

    • Hindi rin Ms Gloria! BPCI is the charity arm of Araneta holdings for the purpose of TAX EVATION!!! FYI, there are several TOP designers who are more than willing to provide their creations for FREE. In short, there is no freaking excuse to justify this insanity!

    • As far as I know, Rolene was only here for I think 2 days and due to her busy schedule she won’t be able to meet Leo and there’s no need for Rolene to wear evening dress/es on the events she attended here in the Philippines.

Pero sabi nga, unless the girl is already on the red carpet, walang kasiguruhan na isusuot ang damit na dinesign mo…

      • Malamang naman nasabihan si Leo about it and maiintindihan naman nya kasi alangan namang magpunta si Rolene sa opening ng Beauty with a Purpose building tapos makagown sya na puno ng swarovski crystals. Di akma sa event.

  13. just my view..kanya kanyang desisyon lang yan…pero kung ako I will not close doors.

  14. Personally, I was not aware of Leo Almodal until beauty queens started wearing his gowns and he casted a lot of them for photoshoots. So sa akin lang naman to ha, I think that the world of pageantry, with its queens, pageant camps and non-BPCI national directors/organizations, has in a way contributed to the relative popularity he has achieved.

It is obvious that he felt slighted because of some incidents with BPCI (the MJ brouhaha and Janicel’s natcos snub). There maybe additional issues we’re not privy to. I think na it is good na instead of sulking about it, he has decided to refocus his energy to what the core of his business is.

But setting aside BPCI, has he and his creations not been fully embraced by every other pageant org/national director in the country? Wasn’t it his gown Jamie Herrell wore when she was crowned Miss Earth? Who created that wonderful terno with the transparent butterfly sleeves Megan Young wore when she hosted Miss World? That was his as well right? So why turn his back on pageantry altogether when two of the biggest local pageant organizations, aside from those minor orgs that fall all over themselves to get their winners “Almodal-ed”, has acknowledged his talent and have gone to him to help their queens?

The answer is simple. At the end of the day, in the small world that is Philippine pageantry, Binibining Pilipinas and BPCI is the one that matters most. It’s the mother hen of the local pageant scene’s pecking order. I wouldn’t blame him if he had set his sights on dressing a Binibini queen in a major international competition. A Binibini queen sashaying down, lets say, the Miss Universe stage and hopefully winning a crown in his design would have given his business a big boost. He might have hitched his wagon to that star far too soon though, considering the cold shoulder treatment BPCI has given to Filipino designers for the longest time. It’s understandable that his unsatisfactory encounters with BPCI definitely left him with deep wounds. It is part of the business. Sometimes you win, at times you don’t. I am not a big fan of Almodal’s creations to be honest but I appreciate the workmanship and admire his talent but I do hope that sometime in the future he would reconsider his decision. May the acceptance of Miss Philippines Earth and Miss World Philippines be hopefully enough make up for the snub of BPCI.

  15. If I may digress – how come MJ’s gown in the group pic looks so luxuriously expensive, fits her superbly, amply shows off her luscious curves and even gives her the illusion of added height despite 2 see-through panels slashing at a diagonal horizontal across the bodice? Whereas the deplorably tacky obvious knockoff of this gown by Bazurra for MJ in the recent Miss U displayed the exact opposite? Methinks it’s because Almodal is definitely in a league above Bazurra’s. And yet Stella Sabotahe de Araneta has the audacity to declare that Filipino designers are no good if only to justify her blind patronage of her compatriot Bazurra?

  16. Go Leo! Pageant is a business. In business, one has to pay and the other gets paid. Your work should be compensated. That’s why I don’t understand the whole Barraza brouhaha. You get what you pay for. It’s not complicated.

  17. It partly saddens me that we won’t be able to see an Almodal creations in pageants (unless he changes his mind or maybe someone would really pay for his gown/s. Yes it is understandable that he needs to ensure his finances to create his pieces) but still happy for him for he has decided on what he really wanted to do with his career. We all do want that path in our own lives: to know our targets.

Well, still thanks to Leo for his part in giving color to the pageant world last year. As far as I know, he has already decided before the NatCos competition and he accepts that the top 5 deserves their spot (I have watched the competition live and I may say the top 5 candidates really did well in their performance). Maybe he was just waiting for a sign if he would really push through with his decision or not and Janicel’s inclusion marked it.

We still have good fashion designers in the Philippines. We filipinoes are good with everything. Fashion designs in phil pageantry will still flourish without Leo; but still, Leo is Leo Almodal. He may not be a big “kawalan” but I would still love and look forward to see his intircate creations on stage. 🙂 Iba padin ang dating ng gawa nya and I hope future fashion designers have learned from him.
