Since I wasn’t able to come up with a Throwback Thursday post due to the non-working holiday that prompted me to wake up late, babysit my niece and go to SM Aura to eat my favorite Carne Asada platter at Brasas, I decided that a Flashback Friday feature is a must. And because my friend Jonas Yu (of Critical Beauty) came up with his shot of Madame Stella Marquez de Araneta doing a cheeek-to-cheek pose with Miss International 1979 Melanie Marquez, I thought…why not reminisce a bit about the time the latter participated in the Ford Supermodel of the World 1986 where she was named one of the Top 6 finalists and nearly won the title that went to Canada’s Monika Schnarre instead.

Wala talagang nag-boo kay Stella when she was introduced or acknowledged during the press presentation event? Talagang puro polite applause lang? Boom panes!
Mimilanie – quintessential beauty queen. She defied the odds despite her lack of English proficiency. She conquered the world despite her poor childhood. Janicel should learn a thing or two from her – such confidence and witty repartee. I remember her taras bulba which we tried to copy – the higher the better. Ha ha. Grabe rin ang humility nya – she was one of the few BbP queens who defended Stella at the height of the gown controversy. No wonder mahal sya ni madam!
Napanuod ko ang interview ni AJ sa A&A kanina. Resigned daw siya sa BbP, wit dethroned…
Ows?But I could still remember 1991’s headline screaming “Miss Philippines (AJ) ousted from Miss U” and that was Miss Universe season so I believe AJ was already in Las Vegas when MUO discovered the discrepancy. I could be wrong,though.Still,just saying.
malaki sana ang chance ni anjanette noon na manalo. anyways, ganda ni julia barreto, sana mag join siya sa bb. pilipinas in future, pang Miss Universe at Miss World siya.
I heard however that this Anna Bayle is mean.
When I was a kid she sat beside me in one of those benefit ek ek with Basil Valdez. Kung bakit ako nandun di ko rin alam. Nakikipag landian sya kay Apa Ongpin (kilala nyo yun? tisoy na di ko alam kung artista ba o host). Wa sya pakels kung mamatay ako sa usok ng sigarilyo nya (yes pwede pa manigarilyo indoors) hala parang tambucho….now na na rerecall ko…she had the shiniest hair! very tall very tan….may pagka Maeya Tuliling yung dating nya.

Shet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! kilala ko si Monika Schnarre hahaha….dati may VHS/Beta tapes pa na inuuwi sa Pilipinas para panoorin namin ng ate ko. Napanoon ko yung kay Tweety, Lala Flores bwahaha…OMG super flashback kase yung VHS recorder namin yung para pang stainless steel?

1987 Celia Forner (Spain) OMG naloka household namin at ayoko magpaawat sa pag play ng UPTOWN GIRL I was only 7!
1988 Anushka Muzik -Di ko maalala kung tama yung spelling pero mangahng mangha ako sa name nya
Tapos ang favorite ko nun 1989 si Ms. Norway Synne Myreboe – may add sya sa Guerlain for Samsara iniyakan ko nanay ko na bilhan ako lost na lost sila bakit ako nagpapabili ng Samsara ang bata bata ko pa…thinking about it now nakaka lost nga. meron ako nitong magazine na to adik lang!
1990 anneliese seubert OMG eto manok namin…Australian pero catlike features nya super gandang MOWDEL…I remember rampa walk nila “Enjoy the Silence” ng Depeche Mode.
Those were fun times 🙂 After Tricia Helfer hindi ko na nasundan sino nananalo. Paniwalang paniwala ako sa ate ko na kung mag momodel sa Ford pumunta kase disiplinado. Wag sa Elite kase nilalandi ni John Casablancas mga girls so natakot ako bwahahaha…as if naman…
Sorry for the long post…natuwa lang…
Bongga lang talaga ni madam Mimilanie nung ’80s! She really did make good use of her “long legged”. Some say na she was made a runner up instead because she chose to rep the Philippines instead of USA/New York. I have wondered a few times how big her career could have been if she stuck it out in New York.
Speaking of 80’s models…how about a feature on the often-credited first asian supermodel THE Anna Bayle? Konti na lang ata nakakaalala sa kanya.
sya ba ung sexy star na kasama ni Bayani Agbayani sa “Sanggano’t Sang gago”?..
ay mali! … Michelle Bayle pala un…lol.. x)
