Unable to hide his sadness over the fate of the 44 members of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force who perished during a bloody encounter mission in Mamasapano, Maguindanao on Sunday, policeman and Neil Perez is dedicating to them his bid to win the Mister International pageant scheduled this February 14 in South Korea.
“Nalungkot ako nung nabalitaan ko yun. Seven of them were my batchmates in the police academy so I will do my best to win the title. This is one way of serving my country and bring honor to our Filipino countrymen,” Perez told InterAksyon and other media during his recent send-off party at One Esplanade that was attended by several of his fellow officers from the Philippine National Police.
Born Mariano Perez Flormata, Jr., Neil carries the rank of Police Officer 2 (PO2) and is detailed at the PNP Aviations Security Group where he is a bomb and explosives technician. He said that as part of his preparations, he and his team also learned some lessons from the recent Miss Universe pageant that saw Philippine candidate Mary Jean Lastimosa fall short of winning the crown.
In reference to the decision of Binibining Pilipinas founding madam Stella Marquez Araneta to go with Colombian designer Alfredo Barraza to design MJ’s national costume and evening gown that may have contributed to her defeat, Neil said he’s going with Filipino designers Edwin Uy and Olan Roque for his Dinagyang-inspired national costume and formal wear, respectively.
“Nung nakita namin yung nangyari sa Miss Universe, nag-prepare na kami so we decided to go with all Filipino designers,” Neil pointed out.
In addition to his outfits, Neil, who won Miss International Philippines last September, also continues to keep himself in tip-top shape.
“The Mister International Pageant encourages total health and fitness. That’s why I made sure that I work out regularly and eat smart,” Perez explained. He noted that he needs to be in his best form as he will be participating in various pre-pageant activities and preliminary competitions, which has been spread over two weeks.
“The Mister International Pageant is all about being a total gentleman, and Neil has been determined and passionate about his preparations in order to represent the Philippines in the best possible light in the pageant,” added Carlo Morris Galang, one of the main proponents behind the Misters of the Philippines contest.
Should he make it to the pageant’s Question and Answer portion, Neil also intends to speak in the Filipino language and avail of an interpreter. The last two Miss Universe titlists from Venezuela and Colombia had their answers interpreted even though they are both known to speak English.
Founded in 2006, the Mister International annual male pageant is owned and organized by the Mister International Organization which also organizes the annual Mister Singapore pageant. Both Lebanon and Brazil have won the pageant twice and the current Mister International is Venezuela’s Jose Anmer Paredes.
In 2013, Philippine representative Gil Wagas placed 4th Runner-up in the competition.
If he wins, Neil Perez would become the first ever Mister International titleholder from the Philippines.

    • In the original Mr. International that was first held in 1997, Mr. Philippines was the first winner and again won in 2001.

    • Predictions just predictions. Hunch. Guessing. Often times, real results totally different from predictions. Not to be relied on. Not to be trusted. It’s just for fun. Game. If you believe in it, good for you. I don’t. Why can’t psychics predict winning lottery numbers? Why can’t they predict their own destiny? Otherwise they shouldn’t be charging $5.00 for palm or card reading.

  2. Oo, go lang ng go to be good pati na rin sa make-believe na ‘to. 😀

Thanks Laila! You’re so kind 🙂

  3. Hep…. Teka tama ba nabasa ko “may interpreter” si Neil? Ei di WOW okay yan!

  4. Kudos to Neil’s handlers. Watching him now, i can truly see the positive difference from the time he won the phil competition. He greatly improved not only on his physical looks and confidence, but also to his overall aura as well. What a positive transformation! 👍

  5. Natutuwa ako dito kay mamang pulis. Bagay sa kanya yung pagka shy nya. Parang shy na approachable pa rin. Goodluck Neil!

  6. I bet this one’s not going to make the cut. So don’t keep your hopes high baka masaktan na naman kayo. Fine, he’s a policeman, but will he standout against those towering uber gorgeous european and latino guys? I don’t think so.

  7. Delicioso mamang police, betsina ko yung NC ni neil imagine ko ano kaya ganyan maging NC natin sa universe!

  8. Tito Noooorms! #WaterWater hahaha alam mo yan. juskooo ang hot. lalo na ung naka blue coat siya. pak. haha he is soooo ready! i love the natcos.

MANILA, Philippines – Mister International Philippines 2014 Neil Perez said that he is dedicating his work in the pageant to his comrades from the Special Action Force, who died during a violent clash in Maguindanao on Sunday, January 25.

Neil will be competing for the title of Mister International in Seoul, South Korea, this February.

“Denededicate ko etong laban ko sa Korea sa mga ka batch ko po na nag-binuwis sa SAF at para sa mga SAF. Papasalamat din ako sa Philippine National Police,” Neil said during his send off for the competition at the One Esplanade Lounge, Tuesday, January 27.

(I am dedicating this competition in Korea for batchmates n the SAF who lost their lives, and to the SAF. I would also like to thank the Philippine National Police.)

Neil said that 7 of those who died in battle were his batchmates in Batch Mabalasig. A total of 44 officers were killed, according to Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II.

Neil, a bomb and explosives technician with the PNP Aviations Security Group, said that he hopes to get the same support given to Mary Jean “MJ” Lastimosa, who recently competed in the 63rd Miss Universe in Doral, Miami. MJ made it to the top 10.

“Sana ganun din [support]. Parehas lang kami ni MJ na pinaglalaban ang Pilipinas, so sana suportahan din ako,” he said. (IN PHOTOS: Police officer clinches victory in Misters of the Philippines)

(I hope i get the same support. MJ and I are both competing for the Philippines, so I really hope for support.)

Neil said that he has prepared for the competition especially for the question and answer portion. His suit and national costume was also presented to the media.

When asked if he will continue being a policeman after the competition, the 29-year-old Neil said that he is a police, mind and heart.

Neil’s family was also present to lend him support, with his mother reminding him to put God first in everything he does.

Neil’s decision to join the Misters of the Philippines competition last September caught many by surprise. He’s since earned a lot of fans – even appearing at the Cosmo Bachelors’ Bash in September.

  10. Iba yung aura niya. Tinititigan ko yung ibang candidates then compare to him, ang lakas ng tama niya. For sure may placement itong si Neil. =) Good luck mamang pulis.

    Forget Madam Stella she’s doomed.

  11. Wow! He’s so ready na to compete after his trainings.

Modesty aside, tingin ko naman I have one of the strongest sash in our clan lol syempre all these happen inside my head pero it’s so fun!!! Yung you’re having fun while trying to outshine your good-looking cousins esp sa group photos. 😀

    Good luck Neil!
